Yes, it's sad. It is also one of the greatest films of all time.

This is a scene from <a target="_blank" href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0095327">Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies)</a>. The clip takes place towards the end of the movie, when Setsuko is dying of starvation because of WW2. Seita is her 14yr old brother. Setsuko herself is 4yrs old.

Be warned! While I believe this film is a must-see for anime fans and laymen alike, it is not for the weak hearted. I cried twice just watching it encode, and I'm not one who cries easily.

I'm not sure if this scene will have the same effect as when you watch the movie as a whole, but when I watched it again, I wasn't thinking back to what had happened before, and I still cried, so perhaps it will still retain it's potency.

I have seen some of the sickest things imaginable on the net, but when my cousins Grandfather cut his leg on a church bench during my cousins Bar Mitzvah, I did not think "Oh cool, that was neat!" I was horrified, and needed a few seconds to compose myself before running to get help (He's on blood thinners, so he was gushing rather badly)

Now, I am not usually squemish at the sight of blood. While most people can be desensitized to the picture screen, it's not that easy to become desensitized to standing over a crying child.

On another note, I found the clip about as moving as the shit I take every morning. In all reality I hate anime and whatnot because they are cartoon characters. I watch cartoons to see things that dont happen in real life, they are meant to provide comedy or sometimes action but not drama of this caliber. I want my 9 minutes back.

Ever wonder why so much disgusting shit comes out of japan, especially in the form of hentai anime? I'll give you a hint, it has a little to do with the laws there. I'm not sure if it's still this way, but for a long time it was illegal to show(or possibly just depict? There were a few points in there where some lewd comments could be made, and I did make them, but I didn't see anything that would make cry out in shock or rage.

Ok, I killed a lil time today and read some of what was said on both the boards before this one. What I have determined is that the subject or question originally posed should be the topic of discussion and not Searyx's love for Under Aged Toon Poon.

This discussion ranks right up there with Abortion and the Death Penalty. The only difference with this one is more sick than the other two. It does fall into a great philosophical debate category, IF you can put your feelings aside.

If you are going to take the, "animated kiddy porn is a gateway" argument then you have to ask yourself, are cigarettes a gateway to drugs? It may not seem like the same argument but it is.

For the record, I am opposed to kiddy porn. I do not, however, have an opinion yet on Kiddy Toon Poon. Mainly because I have never seen one nor do I want to.

on a side note. Would you consider midget porn to be a substitute for both kiddy porn and kiddy toon poon? I don't know if I could handle seeing the umpa lumpa's going at it.

REGARDLESS to say I think I should make it a point to anyone that is confused "Grave of the Fireflies" is NO WAY in any sense child pornography. It is an origional film made by studio ghibli and was yanked by the head animator and sold under his studio. One of the ORIGIONAL directors of animation was Hiyayo Miyazaki, who is famous for many cartoons animations such as My Neighboor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service. Ikasha the new head of animation, and Miyazaki, are not even credited in the credits. These two are by far two of the most artistic and well respected animators in the world and thinking Grave of the Fireflies is porn is wrong

Of course you are free to come to your own conclusions, but if you want to have a discussion of the matter in a more dispationate manner, the U.S. Supreme Court has issued an opinion on or related to this matter that might provide a reasonable starting ground. It still has nothing to do with this particular anime, but topicality should never stop a good arguement.
