Anyone know a pop-up stopper that is worth a damn?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Post by Xaem »

Companies have figured out how to weasel their way around my current pop-up stopper, Panicware Pop-up Stopper Pro, in almost every single occurence of a pop-up. I was wondering if any of you knew of a good pop-up stopper to put an end to this atrocity. God its fucking annoying to get 6 or 7 adds after clicking a link to a "PAY HERE TO STOP ADDS" site.

Go to options in popup stopper and select aggresive popup control.

Also, actually pay for it instead of cracking it. If you use a cracked exe or a keygen they can check for it and they will start sending you tons of popups.

I bought popup stopper pro last year and I havent seen a popup since then, unless I turn it off.

Avant browser is shit. You cant even manage your favorites in the drag down menu and have to settle for where the browser wants to put them.

Other than the favorites functionality, which I agree is shit, I haven't noticed many other issues with Avant. I used to use Pop-Up Stopper but switched to Avant browser when it was mentioned here a year ago or so. It's good stuff although it does have some annoying quirks. Not having to bother with a separate program just for popups is nice.

I've heard the Google toolbar popup blocker works well too...I use Avant personally.

My Earthlink account has a built-in pop-up blocker...even though I don't actually dial in to Earthlink these days (thanks school T1!), it still works like a champ.

I noticed with Avant that after using it for a while in one sitting, it freezes for a while when I hit the back button. I switched back to IE because it got so annoying.

I recently got roadrunner after moving back to school. I previously had DSL. Anywho, in the first 3 hour span of having it running, I was greeted with no less than 25 popups. The kicker is that every single popup was the exact same; an advertisement for a popup blocker. Apparently these bastards pay roadrunner to let those through.

I am currently shopping for another connection.

Get the newest version. (8.02 build 018) That was happening to me for a while too.. memory leak I guess.

Google toolbar works great for pop up stopping. It's free, fast and extremely easy setup.

Zamtuk if turning off messenger service doesn't clear up the problem completely.... run this http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10214 ... ag=lst-0-2

It's called Adaware... do the check for updates right away... it maintains a "DAT" file like a anti-virus program does. Lots of websites dump annoying pop-up inducing software hooks into your system.... and some apps do too... Kazaa does. If you use Kazaa Adaware will actually break it during the cleaning process... so replace Kazaa with this version http://www.kazaalite.tk/ it doesn't have the spyware.. and it sets you up with 1000 participation level. Normally i hate programs that allow jackasses not to share etc... but I was doing Kazaa the honest way for like 4 mths and I assure you it can't maintain a ratio correctly anyways... I could have 5 gigs downloaded from my machine and download 500 megs and loose 800 participation points in the process.... it was damn stupid.
