Paladin ubahness

Post by Zaelath »

Hrmm, apparently a paladin can solo Gore and this shit has to stop :)

I wonder what people would think of my druid tanking in sol ro better than the monk or ranger we had in the group... yes, the mob was chanter slowed, but at least it's in the current expansion :)

Hardly counts then, does it? If someone soloed Gore on a live server, we could have this talk. Right now? nuh uh!

I'd bet that a time equipped shaman\bst\SK\Pally could do Gore or Talendor solo. Pre-buffed by others of course. Talendor's been done with less than a group of ele geared folks.

I killed Talendor a couple weeks ago with basically 4 people. Monk tanked. We had a SK with us, but he was level 53 or 54 and died right off the bat.

I find it comical really.. it's expansions old and yes, paladins can solo a worthless mob and suck up a ton of downtime, if they're geared appropriately and buffed out the arse. People want to use it as an example of what's wrong w/ class balance compared to a warrior who they knew would never solo when they created it. Mostly.

I'm not about to get into a cock fight about class balance, I've never seen a game yet where it was exactly right or where a move to fix one side didn't make the other howl.. but this crap is irrelevant to Time equipped people.

Just like VS, Gore, Sev, etc.. were all said to be irrelevant (by the people ganking them in our case) when MB still worked? It's quick cash, folks will do it. Repeatedly.

I'm not time equipped and would probably give it a shot (two boxed) if I saw one of them up :)

Yeah, I'll give you that stuff like this shouldn't be soloable at all really.. fearless makes a big difference in a fight like this and a warrior/cleric 2 box would probably be a closer fight than a paladin solo... That's reflective of the general case that new expansions gimp everything in the old ones..

I mean, people just hit VT bosses now w/ everyone level 65 and the MT w/ 300AA and compare that accomplishment to people killing the same mobs at 60 w/ nothing like the AA, and no LR5/ID5.

I dare say though, the "quickness" of the cash v's some Sol Ro mold farming would be debateable..

Hmm, I'd be willing to go 1 on 1 with Talendor. I think that would be a fun thing to try.

Gore is out though, as fighting cleric MOBs is even more boring than watching two shamans duel. I could see where a paladin could pull it off with the stuns to interrupt though. My old tactic of fighting clerics was to just run them out of mana by keeping the damage on and refusing to die, but... yawn....

Pallies are the best tanks in EQ right now for anything under raid encounters, IMO. Warriors simply cannot hold aggro nearly as well. Factor in Slay Undead and even healing AAs on the top end Pallies and it's not even close. I played a 8 hour session the other day at PoV inner. Six hours with a Pallie as MT and 2 with a warrior as MT. I actually had to decrease my DPS for fear of over-aggro once the warrior replaced the Pallie. With the Pallie, I could chain nuke at will from the initial pull.

Two Druids with DC pets, 2 Pallies with slay undead, and 2 Necros in CoD is one of the best groups I have ever been a part of, and that's saying a lot. It was sick. Everyone did thier part, but those Slay Undead numbers, coming from a melee, were a huge part of every kill.

Well, I'll also never forget the pure DC pet group I had in HoH. That was an AA every 50 minutes, on the nose. I did that one just last week :P Better still, it stayed together all day and we didn't have to keep finding replacements.

Nods, I left my pally at 55 2 years ago because she just couldnt get a group, and soloing those skellies was getting boring. She'd be rocking now if I had stuck with her.

just a note...

just wanted to re-stress the fairweather pure point of "underneath raid conditions"

even with all your defensive/healing aa done, there still is a <threshold> that only warriors can withstand.
