"Everyone is saying the movie is extremely anti-semetic"
As in it depicts anti-semitism or as in it preaches it ? Oh and btw, it's "The Passion". "Passions" is a soap opera, and I must say one of the most retarded ones I've had the displeasure of seeing even parts of.

Passion plays depicting the death of Christ have been around for centuries.
The issue stems from the old school view of the death of Christ where it was pretty much blamed on the jews who convinced the romans to execute him. Mel Gibson is an old school catholic who pretty much rejects most of what the modern vatican says and does. I read that he has his own chapel at his mansion and conducts mass 3 times a week in latin. He's pretty hardcore. I don't think he is much of a jew lover either. Mel's dad is actually a fairly infamous holocaust denier, but he is also batshit crazy.
I really don't see what the issue anyway. If it was always God's will for his son to die for everybody's sins, then the jews should probably be thanked for their help. I personally feel that jewish organizations like the ADL do more harm than good to jews anyway. They fucking harp about everything that doesn't depict a jew jumping into burning buildings and rescuing babies and even then they will complain that the director didn't depict them rescuing enough babies from burning buildings and therefore must be an anti-semite.

I am looking very forward to seeing this film. Fox Searchlight was the latest studio to turn down Mel Gibson's film...and as of yet, this film does not have a distributor.
I do not believe it is going to be anti-semitic. I do believe that if you are a hardcore Jew, you might be inclined to think it is anti-semitic because by historical and biblical accounts the Jewish people did choose to have Jesus Christ crucified instead of another person when given the choice by the Romans.
The preview looks very interesting. I hope that some distributor with balls picks it up.

I'm very excited about this, the whole anti-semitic stuff is a crock IMHO. Yes it was the Jewish religious authority that got the Romans to put him to death but that would have been ANY political system that was trying keep their status quo. Hell the Catholic Church did it for over a thousand years they don't have jack to say about anyone else. Jesus was a rebel in his ideas and philosophy for the time. The Hebrews were expecting a Warrior King like Aragorn to show up and instead they got Jesus preaching a radical message of forgiveness. It's funny that today many conservatives represent the Religous groups in this country. They are the same people that don't want social programs or aid to those in need... sounds... oh VAGUELY familiar? Jesus was a liberal!
