I just got back from a week long trip to Portland, Oregon. I had a blast.
For those that live there or know the area: There is some place called Multnomah falls or something like that.. What is the name of the mountain that is there? I know of Mount Hood.. I'm talking about another mountain there that my friends and I climbed. I've been searching on google for a while and can't seem to find it.
If anyone ever gets the chance, I would highly recommend visiting the falls and also Oneanta (sp) gorge... that place was fucking amazing.
Hoping to move to Portland. My brother hooked me up with this gal at Intel who knows people... wish me luck!! Oregon is fucking gorgeous!! $105.00 for hunting/fishing license + deer, elk, bear, cougar, upland foul tags!!! Holy shit! I love that state!!!! My brother just bought a house in Portland and is loving it!! They are 45 min from Mt Hood and 3.5 hours away from Mt. Bachelor(Bend, where my folks live).
Oregon is gorgeous, only area of the nation I can think of that would make a Southerner want to actually not live in the South.
That = something special.
Unemployment here sucks super ass but if you got a job already set up then more power to you!
p.s. Bike lanes are lame
p.p.s. Traffic cops here are like ninjas, they come out of no where.
p.p.p.s. Lots of hippie liberals here, so if you are a card carrying member of the NRA...you are OK in my book!

If you're referring to a hike you did right at Multnomah Falls it could be the Larch Mountain Trail.
If it's another Mountain in Oregon it could be one of many as you're right in the middle of a mountain range.
I live in vancouver, WA just across the I-5 Bridge from portland, OR.
The moutain you are speaking of is likely Mt Baker it you are not talking about Mt Hood.
Living in the Portland, OR is pretty cool if you are an outdoors type of person.
You are 90 minutes from some of the best skiiing in the country. Mt Hood also has the only year around skiiing in the country. Mt Hood has a Glacier. Its only closed for 6 weeks per year for maintenance (not generally due to lack of a skiiable surface)
You are 90 minutes from the Ocean. Ocean fishing, claming and shit like that.
We have both forests and barren deserts.
You are 3 hours from the Deuschutes... are very kick ass Salmon fishing river as well as a damn fine river for rafting (can get up to class 4-5 depending on the area and time of year.
PEACE! Time to go home.

You forgot 90 minutes from surfing (for the hardcore Oregonians that dare surf in the 50 degree waters)! Great surf up here. Luckily it hasn't become too overcrowded in the waters yet, but many of the popular spots definately are being overun.
