Audigy 2 Platinum dirt ass cheap

Post by Kluden »

For anyone that is in the market for a new soundcard, or simplywants the upgrade to the Audigy 2 Platinum (the one with the nice control devices that mount in a front bay), Best Buy has them insanely cheap this week.

Audigy 2 Platinum

Happy buying!

In this day of disposable cards, $129 isn't exactly dirt ass cheap imho. Compare to the sub $30-50 for a SB Live! card... Nicely discounted for sure, however.

You can have better sound with 0$ extra if you purchase a motherboard with an audio chipset.

it is dirt ass in reference to creative's current top of the line model :)

I run an audigy 1 and that is simply because it was only $50...but if I had 130, I would by this today...but alas I do not. Just figured there are probably some huge sound folk out there who would not mind grabbing one of these.

sorry no.. you obviously havent seen the 6.1 chipset and all the features that come with it. personnally i went with an onboard sound and i am not disapointed.

This is my opinion btw..

I have a new KT600 msi mobo and the 6.1 chipset is nice i matched that 6.1 with an set of altec lansing speakers for 6.1 and the sound just rocks.

I've seen it, I have just not witnessed the quality yet. Also, if not starting from scratch, both options would be around the same price, no?

Onboard sound is much better these days on the higher end MBs at least. I have an Audigy soundcard and didnt even bother installing it after I upgraded my motherboard as I'm fine with the onboard sound for my two computers. It sounds good and is 6.1 (if I wanted to have more than 2 speakers) etc etc.

The audigy is probably a little better sounding but not that big a deal unless you are really into sound. EQ sound irritates me mostly so im not big into surround sound etc for games. With onboard sound, you also save PCI slot for one of those fatass 5900 slot sucking cards if you happen to go with that over the better ATI 9800 cards. : )

Onboard sound is cheaper, not in terms of quality but price since you just don't see a difference almost on motherboard prices. And they almost all come with at least audio/ethernet adapter integrated nowadays.

I remember onboard video/audio/etc scaring me in the past, but I have been more and more drawn towards it now seeing how many boards are basically carrying them as standard. Now, video would still scare me, but the Audio and NIC seems to be on par with anything else out there. I am using the Audigy 1 on my "old" comp now, and I don't "use" it. The tower I have now would allow me to use the "external" controls, but I don't really need them with my home system. Essentially I looked at it as Eye-Candy since I wouldn't use the majority of the functions.

$129 is the normal price for the Audigy 2, not the Audigy 2 platinum. The Audigy 2 doesn't come with the drive bay interface or remote control.

Also, CompUSA has the regular Audigy 2 online only this week for $80 (instant rebate, no mail-in hassle). Obviously though this is only valid through tomorrow, so if you want it, you don't have much time to make a decision.

Xaem, I realize you bought the card for that. That does not make it the normal price. Try finding the card now for $129 except at Best Buy as mentioned.
