terms?

Post by Abelard »

Behold, the thread where you can ask and hopefully find out the meaning to terms you've always been unsure of the meaning to. For me, it's blanket statement. What exactly is a blanket statement? Is it saying something without backing it up?

also, does anyone else get weirded out when someone uses one of the sayings from one of those dumb .gif photos like welcome to last week?

I hate it when people use the term 'Behold' to start posts on Internet message boards in the 21st century. Said people are asshats.

What exactly is a "fucktard". Please define it for me in the same format that Merriam-Webster would use. I would like to enjoy using this word on a more day to day basis as it does sound interesting, but I require a proper definition to more fully understand the use of this fine word.

Thank you.

Why do people from Wisconsin say "and that" at the end of most of their sentences. Like "I am cooking potatoes, and that".

That's a good question, Krimson. I never really noticed it until I met my girlfriend's dad last year. He likes to tell stories, like re-living his experiences, and uses "and that" to end nearly every sentence. When I noticed this it drove me nuts; I couldn't hardly pay attention to the stories because I was so tuned into all the "and that"'s. Eventually I got used to it.

My husband was born in Wisconsin, but moved away before he finished high school. Thank God he either never picked up that habit, or he dropped it before we met.

I had a history teacher in high school who ended every sentence with 'on it.'

"How are you doing on it?"
"Don't forget your reports are due this friday on it."

BTW Masteen, you listed fucktard as a noun but provided verb-type definitions:p

Ever notice how people from Chicago, when they talk about going somewhere usually say something along the lines of "I'm gonna go with", ending their sentance with the word with?

Yes, my Chicago friends always use the phrase "I'm gonna go with" as in "I'm going to go with you".

Speaking of which you said "gonna" here is something for you, ever notice people from Michigan often don't say the G's on the end of words. For example "Going out" turns into "Goin' out" it's one of the ways you can use to narrow down peoples backgrounds. Obviously the ever popular "Pop, soda, coke" will get the intial weeding accomplished quickly.

As for "Blanket Statement" yes it's like "generalization" it's a statement you make that covers a large group etc...

Fucktard....eh...it's just a combo for someone who is not only a fucker, but also retarded. Fairly self explanatory.

Now AssClown....AssClown can get confusing.

reminds me of this book I read a few years ago:
The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat
by Dr. Oliver Sachs
The title actually comes from an incident in the first case history where a music professor, his brain stem deteriorating, actually thought that his wife's head was his hat.
