Got worm, need fix

Post by Keverian FireCry »

Luckily, I did not get the worm that has been going around, but my sister got it and Im trying to help her get rid of it. She cannot get online or anything to get any patch so getting rid of it has become my job, heh. Does anyone know about the big worm that has been going around last the couple days? :x

Any help would be appreciated.

I've done this a few times in the last few days for different people...

1. When the PC comes up, click on 'Start'
2. Click on 'Control Panel'.
3. Click on 'Performance and Maintenance'.
4. Click on 'Administrative Tools'
5. Click on 'Services'.
6. Select the 'Remote Procedure Call' service (not the 'Remote Procedure Call Locator' service)
7. Click on the 'Recovery Tab'.
8. Change all of the failure options from 'Restart (reboot) the computer' to 'Restart the Service'.

Download and apply the patch. :)

As an aside (not at all directed at anyone), people should absolutely be using the Windows Update site to pacth their PCs with all of the 'Critical Updates' at least once every two weeks. This problem was addressed by Microsoft at least two weeks ago, and had PCs been updated this could have easily been avoided. I highly encourage you to use this site if you're running '98, XP, or 2000, and I highly encourage anyone that can to run XP.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I got the worm yay my antivirus didnt detect it but was able to go online on another computer and downloaded the fix from symatec (makers of norton antivirus) which got rid of the worm (I did what Aranuil said as well) then put in the patch and no problems since.
