Shame Cartalas wasn't in France.

Anyway, people die in the US during heatwaves as well. When I lived in Texas we heard about it every summer.

Not 3,000 in one summer your dumb ass. In 2001 the U.S had about 400 heat related deaths.

During 1979-1999 (the most recent years for which national data are available), 8,015 deaths in the United States were heat-related.

global warming my ass! We have not been taking data near long enough to even seriously consider the the theory!! However comma to er on the side of caution, maybe it will start to effect us many years in the future. It's a good idea to start tackling this as a potential threat now.

This has nothing to do with Parisians being pussies. Iraqis are used to the extreme heat and coping without air conditioning. Most Parisians don't have air conditioning because it isn't necessary for them, atleast usually. This year they are having to deal with heat that is far beyond the norm for them, their bodies just aren't adapted to dealing with that kind of heat.

Parisians and all French are pussies, but I do not think that is the only reason for the high numbers of deaths.

The most ironic thing about the whole story is that the corpses ARE being air conditioned.

Poor fuckers had to wait until they died to "Get their Condishinin on"

I know a 20 degree swing from the norm is quite a bit, but do they just not know how to take care of it? It gets over 100 quite often in Arkansas, and our death rate is very low (referring to lower lvl housing that HAS no AC). I feel for them, that's for sure.

Side Note - They've lived this long without AC, and we call THEM pussies? I bet every one of us would start crying when the house hits 85 degrees.

Or even better when we couldn't use our overheated PCs to get to VooganVault.

My apologies, I've been reading posts by Cartalas, Metanis etc for so long that I forgot people could actually be anything but brainless idiots.

But I will say this.. believe me, when it gets really hot in Europe it is way worse than living through 100+ in Texas. Why? Because for the most part there are no AC. Not in stores, not in homes, not in cars and hell.. not in most restaurants. For the most part it isn't needed except for maybe a short time during the summer. If something extraordinary like this happens, it is hell. Truly hell.

It is incredible how fast people can get used to temperatures. In Texas I could run and work out in the sun. Now, since it is 2.5 years since I moved further north, I feel the heat at 20 degrees less than back then.

What I don't get is that while I know most building are old and you might not want to retrofit with central heat and air but window units are cheap :) And in regards to hospitals, better safe than sorry. NOT putting air conditioning in a Hospital is just stupid if for no other reason than to help keep the environment clean.

Ever since Napolean was defeated the French haven't had their heads on straight if you ask me. They have a proud heritage and use to be a powerhouse, now they are just a bunch pussies IMHO... and I have held that for over 30 years so it has nothing to do with Lybia, Iraq or anything else...

Dunno about hospitals, but it is simply not common to have AC in houses whatsoever. Window units included. I don't even know where I would have bought one in Norway to be honest. AC in cars is something you have to pay out the ass for as an option as well.

And I am sure they are fine with you calling them pussies since they mostly consider you triggerhappy cowboys who use guns as penis extensions :)

Kelshara, I didn't say anything about Norway :) But you are probably right about the penis thing. I think it's pretty easy to see the bigger-dick war theory at work... "what they have bigger dicks? BOMB THEM!" and all the projectiles are shaped like dicks too but I nor Carlin have figured that out yet :)

Quite possibly I shouldn't use the word pussies as it sounds too negative. From a historical standpoint France has not been the mecca they once were. Britian, Germany and others have gone through similar if not worse War destruction and survived to become less islotary while France, after many nations - not just the US, helped them seemed to thumb their nose at the relationships then complain when they ran into problems... I'm quite alright with them thinking I'm a WarMonger even though I've never been in the military and in few fights. The US will be there to help them the next time they get themselves into trouble.

...IMHO

I'm not French I just get tired of all the old jokes, just like the Canada jokes. The silly thing is that France stood up for their believes and their interests, just like USA did. Does the fact that their believes differ from yours make them pussies? If so, isn't that pretty narrow minded?

Window units are cheap enough, but I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if there just arent any to be had at the moment. Since they dont usually need AC there isnt going to be a distribution network selling many of them in europe, so the few there were likely sold out long ago, and it takes a while to get more in, especially in bulk. And, being a weather related item, and the weather typically being viewed as notoriously unpredictable its not likely that many AC makers are that eager to go to the expense of diverting a significant chunk of their products to europe (which takes 2-4 weeks minimum) and risk a weather change in the meantime that destroys the market for them before they arrive. Which in turn means another 2-3 weeks delay while those AC's all turn around and go back to north america, at yet more expense and disruption to their revenue streams. So theyre a bit fooked. :(

Drink plenty of water and not over do yourself and you wont die. This is nature killing off the dumbasses who decide not to drink water, or keep themselves hydrated. Or just killing off the old people who are too old to even move out of a bed or chair. Its just speeding up the process of watching them slowly die.

Kel, the lack of support of our current war has nothing to do with my view on France... it just proves the point.

Think of the 16th Century, the Musketeers, the glorius battles etc... France kicked ass! Then think of WW1... back down, dig a trench... and WW2, big a bigger ditch/hill fortress all around the Eastern boarder and they will never get past. Which of course Germany just bypassed and rolled on in... that is my point. They use to be a leader tactics now... eh. But as I said, the past year really has little to do with my view on France. Personally I would love to see them back to the old ways. They do make some DAMN good jets so I know the gene is still present somewhere :)

They can start by putting some air conditioning in the hostpitals for sanitary purposes and take the wine rations out of their MREs...
