the DOCTOR pepper

Post by Rivera Bladestrike »

To start off, I haven't been much of a partier, but having the chance to throw a party, I did, the party frickin owned, had 40 people and 2 live bands, everyone said it was the best of the summer... But on to my concern.

After the party, in which I had about 20 beers. Needless to say I was drunk off my ass (was drinking from around 5pm to 4am)... Anyway, I finally crashed and I had to be up at 9am to be at work at 10:00. Getting up was near impossible, but finally got up, I went to work, when I got there I seriously felt absolutely awful...

Basically it was like the worst stomach ache I have ever had, I didn't feel like throwing up or anything. But I was getting this horrible ache in my chest as a whole. It would last for like 5 minutes, go away for 5, and come back. It would go away and come back four more times. The last one was right when I was talking to my boss, I couldn't even talk, was almost gasping for air. My chest felt like it was twisted. I figured drinking might help, so I drank water a lot (my mouth was dry) also tried sitting down for a bit, it didn't help. I finally bought a Dr. Pepper, I drank it, sat down for 5 minutes, got up, and I felt fine the rest of the day.

This really has never happend before... I was wondering if anyone ever had a problem like this or know why this was happening? It was incredibly painful. Someone mentioned to me something about my body possibly being out of sugar, and thats why the DP worked, not sure, just something someone said, I thought it possibly valid since I hadn't eaten in about a full day. Thanks in advance.

Truthfully, it was heartburn I think. I have that acid reflux bullcrap. Causes terrible heartburn every time I drink. What actually clears it up is anything bubbly. Don't ask me why, but it does it perfectly fine. What that could have been was just really bad heartburn. But then again, did you have breakfast? And did you puke at all? If no to the first and yes to the second, that also could have been it, but highly unlikly in my experiences.

No, I never throw up, I really don't, I could eat a 24 ounce steak, drink 20 beers and someone punch me in the stomach and I'd still hold my own without throwing up. And no, I didn't eat any breakfast...

You really think it was heartburn? This was one of the most painful experiences of my life. It actually locked me up so I couldn't move that much or even talk without literally squeezing out words.

It sounds like it was Gastroesophageal Reflux/Hiatal Hernia. I have suffered from this since i was about 8 years old. Its worse than normal heartburn.

And you are right on about Dr. Pepper or anything carbonated. Its a pain that is hard to describe but if it was in your chest, for me its in the middle to right side of my chest, then basically what happened to you was your stomach inflated and portruded into your chest. The carbonation from the soda relaxs your stomach and thats why it was instant relief.

Tell me more about the pain? to me it feels like what i would describe a sharp, constant, shooting, burning pain, almost as if some type of object was inside my chest. Its overwelmes my body and puts me into a ghostlike/trance state where I cant think or concentrate. Its no fun and hurts like hell. The doctor I saw said that the pain is similar to what heart attack pain is. The good thing is that soda is instant relief. So i always make sure I have some on hand.

It happens to me more when I am stressed out or when I have been drinking. What you described Rivera is sounds exactly the same. You can consult a doctor on this if it continues to happen. I did when i was younger and basiclly I just use the soda remedy.

P.S. Your body wasnt out of sugar..

If you had been throwing up I was going to say that sounds almost like when I dislocated some cartlidge in my chest once, right over my sturnum. Hurt like hell for about 2 weeks before I managed to stretch out really far and it snapped back into place..

Wow...I had a VERY similar experience once. 4 friends and I had the bright idea to have a drinking contest when we were bored on a friday night (ah...college!) So we went out, got 6 12 packs of Keystone Light, and proceeded to dink like madmen. I had a 18 pack in about an hour and a half, and was DONE. The next day, my stomach hurt so bad I didn't know what to do. At 1:00pm, I finally puked up some nasty green bile, and then felt great!! I wonder if the Dr. Pepper you had mixed with the bile in your stomach, and neutralized it, or something...

hangovers are caused in large part by dehydration. You may have just been severly dehydrated and while Dr. Pepper might help a little, water might have helped a lot more.

It sounds to me like you had a bad case of... gas. After 20 beers, it wouldn't come as a surprise to me if that was it. As someone mentioned, any carbonated drink will usually help since it will help you relieve the gas out of your system (through burping usually).

I had OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of water, and it continued to come back. I don't think gas was the problem, since the pain was at the point that I was having trouble breathing. And no, i didn't throw up at all.

Skunki, I think what you said it kinda what I had, because of the trouble I was having breathing during the worst part of the pain. It's possible that my stomach was pushing up against my lungs causing the breathing problems. The pain was similar to like my whole chest was twisting or being crushed... It was constant for about 5 minutes, a sharp pain as well. It would eventually go away, but would come back. It went away and returned 4 times before I drank the soda and it felt better.

At various times in early soda pop history, drinks such as Coke, Dr. Pepper and 7-UP were marketed as upset stomach medicine.

the pain that he is talking about and i suffer from is not what you would associate as a normal upset stomach. In fact, there really is not pain in your stomach at all. Its all in the chest area. ITs more of a shooting pain.

I had bad Chinese last year; couldn't digest it overnight and threw up at 3am. After that I had the sharpest pains coming from my stomach/intestine area and went to the hospital a few hours later (no over-the-counter medicine was working). The nurse gave me a shot in the arm and said to eat crackers and clear drinks for a few days (ala my last post above :) ).
I didn't feel shit in my chest except my heart when I was praying to the Porcelan God that night, no clue what you had Skunki... 8)

Nods, i have every clue what i have, read my first post :p The sharp pains dont come from the stomach they are in the chest :p I feel nothing in my stomach at all, its what i would imagine having a heart attack is like, and i get to experience this all the time heheh.

it just hit home what sheiz described becuase thats exactly what i go through, and since there was no puking involved or stomach pains, and that carbonation instantly makes it go away..thats the Hiatal Hernia.

Rivera/Sheiz, hopefully it was a fluke and wont happen again..its not fun since my attacks happen so random, always gotta have soda on hand..good luck to ya bro!

Pepsi was orginally marketed as a cure for Dyspepsia, aka upset stomach.
