I went to a Dave matthews Band concert several years ago. WORST CONCERT EVER!!! It was boring as hell and I was definitely dreading not drinking before I got there. I was so happy by the time it ended I almost cried. He played almost none of his old songs and all his new crap was filled with 15 minute solo instrumentals.

The only high point (besides it being over) was that the guy sitting in front of me was toking it up pretty hard. I got a decent secondary buzz that kept my ears from bleeding and allowed me to show interest in the crap music for my future wife at the time.

If you want to go to a fun concert then go to Bare Naked Ladies. They actually act like they are having fun in concert and will talk to the audience. Now that was a great concert.

I would love to see BNL! Another fun band to see live is Cowboy Mouth. They are big in the south, but make it to the west coast every now and then.

How many recognizable songs do they really have? 2 or 3 at most?

Reminds me of the Simpsons last night when Jackson Browne was on. He said he was going to do a song from his new album and everyone moaned. It was, to the appreciation of Springfield, followed by a "just kidding".

Not if you know how to shop, hehe.
Check this out:
http://www.liveonpenn.com

Got to see They Might Be Giants, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Arrested Development, Bicycle Thieves, and Nicki Barr for 3$.

Granted I was only there to see TMBG, but 3 bucks is cheaper than a movie rental.

BTW, TMBG really know how to have fun on stage. They know how to do a great show.

No fucking shit on that one!!! I cant believe ticket prices these days...they are just absurd! I dug through my old ticket stubs (I kept OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of them)

Pearl Jam in 1991: $21
SoundGarden in 1992: $18
Oingo Boingo in '87 $12
Depeche Mode in '86: $16.50
U2 in 84: $9 and fifty fucking cents!!!!

I could go on and on

bleh, dave always has put on a good concert, there was one tour where he was play'n electric and therefore playin a lot of his new stuff and showing off his guitar skills.

And the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds acoustic concert was pretty damn good, but it was just a sit back and chill concert (being only Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds and only playin acoustic (emphasising the acoustic part)), but it was stil lthe own

Another good live band is Green Day...they are so fucking old school , and they get the audience involved, Had super soakers, climbed the speakers, jumped into the crowd, got people onstage, etc. It was a really good show, then Blink 182 had to come on and ruin the fuckin show, they are the WORST band ever live, people slept thru some of their shit it was so horrilbe, ive never been a blink fan or a sum 41 fan or a fan of any of that wanna be hardcore punk shit. Green Day is / always will be old school, and they owned the stage. oh yea, and i saw a lot of boobies at the green day concert..kinda like at the dave concerts ..boobies boost any show =)

But still, DMB > all =)

No shit Sko, Nothing, save Frank Sinatra tickets, cost more than $24. Now they charge you $4 for a 16 oz bottle of water and they aren't even allowed to give you the fucking cap. Also, no umbrellas or lawn chairs are allowed inside yet are conveniently available to rent once you're inside.

BoC in concert, there's your old school. For some reason, I wanna tell you Metallica did a one hour opener before the concert, but since I can't understand a word outta em, I would be taking the word of the stoner beside me for the band name.

Jax u lucky lucky person !

I reckon Sigur Ros, Godspeed, Tool, Queens of the stone age, Radiohead, The Doves, Incubus and Faith no more would all put on pretty superb gigs. Although having only been to a couple I couldnt be sure.

Live music is not a ripoff if its good live music, whoever payed 70 bucks for an Eminem gig was ripped tho, Eminem sucks many balls.

If you're willing to pay $70 for your list of bands of the week, then I think you would be ripped.

You're willing to pay for it, I think you're getting jacked. Maybe you have more residual income than I?

I don't know if I posted this recently or was just thinking about posting it, but Danny Carey is the greatest percussionist working today. I've seen Tool 5 or 6 times (they're by far my favorite band) and every show of theirs is spectacular. One of them was damn near a religious experience, and I wasn't even on any hallucinogens.

If Marvin Gaye climbed out of his grave and gave a concert with Elvis Presley, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain, Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Mama Cass, Brian Wilson, Jeff Porcaro, John Lennon and Bob Marley, with Lenny Bruce and John Belushi MC'ing, I might pay $70 for the tickets.

If the seats were good.

Complete suck? wtf, the man has more fucking talent in the tip of his pinkey than you prolly do in your whole fucking body, just because you might not like his style of music, or his unique lyrics or whatever, doesn't give you any fucking right to flame a man who fucking owns you. As for the ego thing, nah, dave doesn't have that big of an ego, if he did he'd pull one of the gay ass shit the lil boy bands pull by breakin up and going solo, but he's been in the same fucking band same group of people since '92, and kept the same style, and always has sold out concerts within 1 week of ticket sales, if he was the complete suck i dont think any of those people think the same, so go fuck yourself... i dont even know you...btw this is my first flame attempt so go easy on meh ...it prolly sucks.

Um okay, so we're not allowed to have a negative opinion of DMB just because you're too immature to realize that criticism of things you like != criticism of you as a person?

DMB is popular because they're mainsteam and accessible, but sound "unique" (omg horns and strings and stuff, no one else ever thought of that before!!1) enough to allow DMB fans to pretend they have discriminating musical tastes. If you think DMB is the be-all, end-all of creative and original music, you need to get out more.

I have nothing against people who enjoy listening to DMB, but I'm sick to death of certain of their fans and their constant yammering about how DMB is revolutionary or influential or changing the face of rock or whatever other stupid musical cliches are popular at the moment.

Now let me know where in my post I claimed to have any sort of musical talent?

I'll stand by my opinion and add that I think that the Dave Matthews Band is one of the most overrated bands in the US right now. How they managed to get there, noone knows - I can only surmise that they somehow tapped into the zeitgeist and filled a void in that weird category of late-teenage-dormroom-I-so-desperately-want-to-be-original-that-I-end-up-being-completely-unoriginal-music that we all know and love. Oh and before you attempt to pull out the old "but but but they use such interesting instruments!" card, let me stop you in your tracks. A saxophone and a violin hardly qualifies for a position in the Rock'N'Roll hall of fame for groundbreaking work.

His lyrics are trite. Yay, more abstract storytelling stuffed with thinly veiled sexual metaphors. That stuff might be fun if I were 17, but approaching 30 (and feel free to dismiss this follow-up as the ramblings of some "old clueless guy" if you want to), I can do with more substance.

Productionwise, they seem to be so determined to appear as a band that they block out the one thing they have going for them, Dave Matthews' nicely dynamic guitarwork.

Go put on "Beautiful Day" from U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind - hell, any song from that album - and you should realize is that this is what DMB could hope to sound like if they had vision, and drive, and talent, and the sense to get producers like Lanois and Eno working for them - oh, and if DM could actually sing. But perhaps a successful band such as U2 is too mainstream to be considered cool?

Dave Matthews Band remains, to me, a boring, uninteresting band that brings nothing new to the table. The only thing they have going for them is the almost religiously zealous devotion of their fans. I guess they should thank the gods that there will always been teenagers so determined to show their "discriminating musical taste" that they will grab the first and the best band that, on the surface, seems to be alternative - without, mind you, being really alternative, because that would be too hard.

saying that you dislike him, and saying that he fucking sucks ass, are two different things, imo Correct me if im wrong tho, cuz i gotta think hard to see if that makes sense, but yea i think it does, in one its just an opinion with no harm done, its a polite way, and in the second its just straight out ass flamin

Of course you probobly never directly flamed him, but ive been a fan since his '96 release of Crash, and im only 17irl, and bein such a hardcore fan i probobly just translated it as flaming, and i get real defensive about my band.

yea, ill get better at this flaming shit, and rise in ranks, meh 8)
