Help me download stuff from IRC!

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Help me download stuff from IRC!

Post by Fenna »

I'm suffering from a lack of information on downloading stuff from IRC channels.

I have read multiple "dummies guide to IRC" and FAQ's on IRC client sites, and I have not yet even attempted using IRC. I would like more knowledge before I start--that's where I'm coming from.

I recall a post from Voronwe stating that all the best shit is found on IRC, and I've heard similar statements from other people.

I understand that you need to install an IRC client and search for chat rooms (although I understand this at only the most basic level, as I have not tried it). I'm wondering how I can find movies/games/etc. on IRC once I have installed the client.

Thanks for any input you guys can offer.

on irc you should get a decent script, showdown is always good and user friendly to start with. Any all around script will do. http://www.mircscripts.com is a decent source. On the taskbar there is a s with an arrow and a lil folder. That is a DCC send, it will ask for the nick and file. You can also rt click on the name and scroll down to DCC options and hit send that way. If you need more help then this I will go in detail further, but that is a good start. Also /msg *nick* sends a /tell, /query *nick* opens a private chat window, /whois *nick* gives info and /whois *nick* *nick* will give you their info + idle time no matter which part of the server they are connected to, /notify *nick* makes a friends list.
