Fantasy Football Live Draft
I have formed a league known as Veeshan Vault. This league is open to the next 11 people who are interested in playing. I have not made the final decision on how points will be made as that I thought that would be something for the group to decide. Once we have at least 8 teams then we can decide on the details.
This is a Live Draft set on August 31st at 4:45 CST. My team is The Corps as that is the last Guild I was in and this is loosely connected to EQ.
The league ID# is 47191 and the password is flame
Hope we get enough teams.

Sorry, I suppose I should have mentioned that I am using Yahoo for this league. It is a free league but they will still try and offer you stuff to buy. Personally I always get the Stat Tracker for the Fantasy Football. It is only about $8 and it keeps you up to date with all the information. I know that there are other Hosts that do that for free but for some reason I am partial to Yahoo.

Not a fantasy draft but a different idea that I hope goes through.

Yahoo Fantasy Football
This is as far as I can take you. You have to have a yahoo account I think to sign up. The league info is at the top of this thread. Hope it works.

Idea for draft
was thinking we could use something like ventrilo to talk to each other during the draft. Would make it seem a lot more fun to me.

Ok. Seeing as how we lost a bunch of posts, let's recap.
We are set with 8 teams but still have room for more if anyone else wants to join. Per Avestan's suggestion I will be adjusting the Kicker's settings as that I was being a bit too harsh for missed kicks. (and I know I will be the one with the shitty kicker)
If those who have signed up already could post their VV name on the board over there so we know who to mock and tease here, that would be nice. Hell post them here if you want.
Being a former member and founder of the Corps I named my team The Corps.

Here are my thoughts on the positions:
Our league has 8 teams.
The NFL has 32 teams.
QB: Potential for every team to have 4 starting QB's on their team though they can only play 1 a week. The current point setup looks like this:
1 point per 40 yards
1 point per completion
6 points per TD
-1 point per sack
Using this system and average week would have a QB scoring
200 yards passing = 5pts. 20 completions = 20pts. 2 TD = 12pts.
2 sacks = -2 25 yards rushing = 2pts.
Grand total = 37pts.
RB: Potential for every team to have 4 starting RB's on their team though they can only play 2 per week. The current point setup looks like this:
1 point per 12.5 yards rushing
1 point per reception
1 point per 15 yards receiving
6 points per TD
-2 per fumble lost
Using this system and average week would have a RB scoring
125 yards rushing = 10pts. 4 receptions = 4 pts. 30 yards receiving = 2 pts. 2 TD's = 12pts. 1 fumble lost = -2
Grand Total = 26pts * 2 RB's = 52pts.
WR: Potential for every team to have 12 starting WR's (assuming 3 starting WR's on each NFL team) on their team though they can only play 3 per week. The current point setup looks like this:
1 point per 15 yards receiving
1 point per reception
6 points per TD
Using this system and average week would have a WR scoring
75 yards receiving = 5pts. 8 receptions = 8pts. 1 TD = 6pts.
Grand Total = 19pts * 3 WR's = 57pts.
I won't go on to do the TE, Kicker, or the Defense.
The thought here is that QB's won't be as powerful as people think, nor will the RB's. On the grand scheme of things the points are relatively close. Granted a WR can't go 1 on 1 with a RB or QB but that is why you get more WR's than RB's or QB's.
The selection for QB's is great.
The selection for RB's is less than that of the QB but still pretty damn good.
The selection for WR's will have people looking a bit deeper I think on teams they normally wouldn't have but any of them can have a break out season (Donald Driver, David Boston, Deion Branch).
I grant that last year Priest Holmes was a God for points in all FF leagues but that is the exception overall. I had Ahman Green last year and he didn't really do squat for me. Look at what Marshall Faulk did last year, also Squat. I had 4 great weeks with Lamar Smith!?
The thing is, there are enough great players in every catagory for an 8 team FF league. People are not dependent on getting that superstar player (Donavan McNabb truly sucked last year for FF cause he ran to the 5 yard line and let the full back score). All that matters is the strategy they employ for the draft.
As far as the kicker missing an extra point I feel he deserves to lose 3 points. Same for if he misses a field goal within range because not only does he not give his team points he leaves the opposing team in great field position.
These are just my thoughts and rational behind the settings. Always willing to discuss them but it would be nice if we heard from some of the other teams as well.

I think yer numbers are a bit off. . .saying a RB averages 125 yards and 2 TD's is a bit excessive. I would also like to see points for receptions and rushes go to zero. I would say the average running back gets more like 90 yards and a TD which with the system I would like to see would be 12 points.
Average QB getting 200 yards and 2 TD (again not a bad game) would be 17 points.
Average WR getting 80 years and a TD nets about 11.33 points. Under your system, a RB who sarried the ball 35 times for 30 yards would score about 37.5 points for a horrible game, I don't like that very much. If you give points to QB's for completions, you should take them away for incompletions.
I like to keep it simple. . .yards and TD's get you points, mistakes take them away. I don't like giving points for receptions and rushes just because those numbers mean diddly if you don't move the ball forward. Just my opinions.

Are you locking it at 8 teams or are you still looking for more?

We have room for more but we would like to keep it at an even number. If you could find another person to join as well that would be great. Even if you can't you can still join.
Stan: I wasn't going to give points for carries to the RB's. Not making receptions worth points would make WR's damn near worthless. Making the league higher scoring makes it more interesting and exciting. If the game is too rigid it makes it less fun. The settings aren't set in stone yet so there is still room to talk it over. We just need to hear from the other 4 or 5 quiet team owners.

ok, I can buy receivers getting points for receptions, but I still don't like QB's getting points for completions. I would rather have the points at more manageable levels because you can always get fractions of points so all that really matters is relative points. By raising the points so high, you are severely diminishing the role of the kicker and the defense which might be your aim. I will play anything, but I would rather not see QB's get points for completions because then everyone will simply go for QB's on passing teams which throw 60 times per game as opposed to good all around QB's who are good rushers etc.

Ok I can see your point about the QB's. Last year McNabb screwed his Fantasy team by running the ball and not passing while Gannon scored big time due to their all passing offense. One of the reasons why I lowered the amount of yards rushing per point so that the scrambling QB's can make some points running. So while I won't eliminate points for completions I will make it a penalty for incompletions. This will bring it closer to what you are shooting for and I think we both can live with that.

Look at it this way. How are QB's supposed to score any points? You guys would have it that they only get points for yards and td's. They do so much more. It is like taking a Rogue into battle and telling him he can backstab all he wants but his damage won't count. Completions are to QB's what Yards are to RB's and Receptions are to WR's. It is what they do.
I lowered the yards needed for points for rushing to help accomodate the QB's but let's face it they aren't all scramblers. There are 32 QB's in the league, it shouldn't be too hard to find a QB who can make completions.

With QB's getting points for completions it gives them way too many points. I think you have to give them a little minus for incompletes. Even .5 points per is a good level. This way passing teams won't run away. Gannon was pretty sick compared to almost every other QB in the league. I had Michael Vick he sucked ass in a completion league.
Priest Holmes is currently playing. If I were all of you though I would wait till the third round to draft him. *whistles innocently*

I still don't see how they get too many points. I also don't see how taking completions away from QB's is going to help any. All that does is makes it a battle of running backs again.
With completions you at least allow for some kind of strategy. Do you draft a QB first or a RB? Or go all WR? By making all the players equal you may as well make the entire team kickers.
We could always do this: Only allow points for yards after they hit 100 yards and only if they score a TD. (sarcasm)
There are soooooo many players to chose from that it really shouldn't matter what the point details are because you should be able to find a player out there to suit your style or plan. Woe be the person who tries to hoard RB's because everyone else will burn him down with their WR's and QB's.

the reason is could suck is that the QB would be by far the most important player. . .I would rather give people the option of not drafting a QB til the 8th round and try to win it with other stuff. In completion leagues, if you don't have a good QB, you won't compete and honestly, the QB's drop way off after about the top 3 or 4 in a completion league and the best completion QB's are almost never the best QB's.
Great QB's who will suck in a completiton league include:
Aaron Brooks (number 2 QB last year)
Donovan McNabb
Michael Vick
Dante Culpepper
There is a slew of other QB's that will be 5 times better than they should be with this system.
QB rating uses the following stats:
Percentage of completions per attempt
• Average yards gained per attempt
• Percentage of touchdown passes per attempt
• Percentage of interceptions per attempt
it is based on percentages, not on pure numbers. When a QB goes 30 for 60, that is a horrible game, but under this system would score huge points even if you did enforce a -0.5 point penalty per incompletion. I would much rather have it be based purely on yards.
I this a good goal is to have all positions average about the same points (except kickers) so that who you pick is more important that what you pick.

Stan, I concede the QB issue to you. I have taken the stats from the top 5 RB's, top 5 WR's, and top 5 QB's and factored their stats for last year into our scoring system. The only stat I didn't/wasn't able to add was that of the fumble. For some reason they didn't post that stat.
I did this all on a spread sheet to make sure the numbers were right. Had we left the QB's to get a point per completion without penalizing for the incompletions then QB's would be really too powerful.
Here is the spreadsheet I made. (don't laugh at my chart I rarely use the damn thing hehe) 2002 Stats
And this is where I got my info from:
NFL Stats
All I had to do was add the 200 points from incompletions back on to Gannon's total.
