Post by Kelgar »

Just curious.

I'd like to hear some feedback from our paragons of intellect and rational thought: Metanis, Cartalas, Brotha, etc on their opinions and interpretations of what this cartoon is implying.

PS. To all of those other than the aforementioned, if you already understand exactly what this pic implies, please hold off for just a tad before you post!

The picture is a feeble attempt at starting a shitstorm, While I agree VV is a little slow right now. I refuse to give my opinion. So you may go back to your regular scheduled anal probe.

Awww...I guess someone shit in your Apple Jacks today?

It's not meant to generate a shitstorm. It's simply a test to see whether or not you and the other mental giants can correctly decipher this pic's meaning.

From your response, it's clear that you haven't a clue what its true meaning is. However, for a change, the 0.5 watt bulb in your head was actually able to pick up the fact that you were better off not taking a stab at it and thus further validate what everyone else's opinion of you might be.

Come now Cart. You were never one to heed the old expression, "It's better to let everyone think you a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it". Why start now?

Kelgar, can you go back to whatever videogame or kiddy fantasy novel you stole that lame name from and rethink you base of attack, when even Cartalas is not lame enough to take your bait, it only means one thing...

Lol. Of all dipshits to come here and rag on me for the name I chose. It's pretty funny to hear this coming from someone whose 2 main EQ characters are slight spins on his IRL name.

Trying to poke fun at me for being unoriginal is pretty fucking hilarious.

Ah ha! VV retard of teh month has added his 2 cents. The funny part about all of this is that I actually have absolutely nothing to ridicule any of you for if you should somehow manage to correctly interpret what the artist's message is.

Hint: The message isn't liberal propoganda.

P.S. The spoiler will come at 12:30PM EST or until someone else gets tired of this and spills the beans.

It looks like it is set up to mimic to the film footage from Vietnam where a Vietnamese prisoner was shot. Guessing that the cartoon is trying to say that the politics surrounding the invasion/occupation of Iraq will mean the death of Bush's political career.

As to whether or not the cartoonist is right, its hard to say at the moment. A lot depends on what happens between now and next November. If in that time we still haven't lowered our troop commitment to Iraq and have had the steady trickle of casualties that we have been having then yeah, it might be enough to cost him the election (particularly if the economy is still weak). But if we do manage to bring most of the troops home, the casualties stop (or at least decrease substantially) and some semblance of stability and self government get going in Iraq then he is probably sitting pretty good. Once again with the state of the economy being a sizable factor (also assuming he can avoid doing something really stupid like his father did when he raised taxes after repeatedly saying in his campaign that he wouldn't).

P.S. (added by edit)
If I wasn't clear in the first bit, I think the cartoonist is trying to claim that Iraq will be Bush's Vietnam politically.

A patriot like Dubya would NEVER wear those Commie black PJs. This cartoon is clearly done by a Pinko sympathizer, who should be censured, arrested, and detained indefinitely

Fuck! I accidently closed the god damned window while linking, etc, etc. Ah well...condensed reply this time!

Chmee's assesment was close but not quite on target. The pic is in fact, a spoof of that famous execution.

Image

This cartoon was meant to depict Bush as being unfairly "executed" by the politically motivated people who are reeming him for this whole Iraq mess.

The atypical response from the majority of Bushies was to call for this guy's head as seen here. The whole irony of the situation is that Ramirez is known in the LA Times for his pro-conservative viewpoints.

I was simply trying to see if I could expect the same from here.

Oh I dunno about unfairly executed. You are aware that the "victim" in that famous photo/film clip was a spy? Ok, it wasnt a nice piece of film, but he wasnt just some random passer-by. And Bush in Iraq isnt just a random excuse for opposing politicians to whack on him either. Whether you believe Bush acted honestly in attacking Iraq or not, he isnt just a random undeserving victim- he got knowingly involved and assumed the political risks.

*Hugs*

Not to mention Bush being depicted as "unfairly" executed! This war was Bush's, if it gets fucked up, you bet your ass he should pay the price for it!

Hmmm, didn't get the inference of Bush as victim implying the unfairness of the act, although it makes sense in retrospect (I was seeing it originally as just a description of what was happening, without any good/bad moral standards being applied to it). Not sure you can really expect everyone to get the full reference (at least in the amount of time that someone typically devotes to looking at a cartoon:)). I know the connection to the vietnam footage didn't occur to me right off.

Unless you have some more evidence than the link provided I don't think you can really claim that a majority of Bush supporters had that reaction. I haven't visited the free republic (the web site linked) before but I have heard it referenced a few times and generally speaking people weren't that impressed with the level of discussion there (although I'll have to try to check myself sometime and come to my own conclusion). Certainly some of the responses in that thread early on were silly. But even there, in the first page (all I skimmed) several people had already identified that the cartoonist was a conservative and the cartoon was pro-bush. I could likewise go over to the democratic underground and try to claim that democrats hold a position based on the opinions of some of the posters over there but it wouldn't be very likely to be correct.

Agreed Xou. Hopefully the Secret Service are just covering their butts until they have an official statement or just because its their job to look into things no matter how silly (even then it should be evident from the start its a non-issue). Never underestimate the governments ability to act in a foolish manner though.

Xou this actually doesn't surprise me...

Before W was president but campaigning...the Edge morning show had made some statements regarding his intelligence, and how poor a job they thought he did as governor...and there was an aside of...if he wins, i'll kick him in the teeth or something really trivial like that.

SS was called in, they were taken into custody and interrogated, then released with some sort of verbal warning.

edit. I obviously don't have quotes and was paraphrasing...so before you semantic motherfuckers jump in here...blow yourselves.

What do you want me to do? Bow down to your intellectual superiority at being able to read about a political cartoon, come and post it on VV (I cant believe you actually got a picture on here omg!!) days after it had first been posted on drudge, and having the ability to make yourself look exponentially more pathetic than you are able to do even with your innane posts that constantly betray the extremely feeble grasp you have on both logic and world politics? You got it...congrats.
