Wtf? at least if they are gonna give us an item, make it a good item..Satchel of Abu-Kar
Get a Satchel of Abu-Kar (in game) when you buy the boxed retail version of EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath at any of our partner retailers while supplies last. What is a Satchel of Abu-Kar you may ask? Well, not much is known about the ancient adventurer, Abu-Kar, beyond a few rare weight-reducing containers that are occasionally discovered. Now rumor has it that a buried storehouse full of these fine satchels has recently been unearthed by the Wayfarers Guild. And oh how useful they are, this satchel will carry eight large sized items, and magically reduces the weight of everything in it by 25%.
Reinforced Satchel of Abu-Kar
In recent weeks, rumors have surfaced that determined adventurers can renew the enchantment on their satchels, strengthening the seams and fittings with arcane power. While the details of these stories are uncertain, most of the rumors share a common thread -- there is a mystical puzzle that must be solved to find the person capable of such immense magic. This ancient magical satchel carries up to ten giant-sized items, reducing the weight of everything in the satchel by 50%.

That's not that bad a choice for an item though....
It had to be somethign everyone would use, and not too overpowering.
I mean it has to be something they can hand to a level 20 or 65 and it will still possibly see use, if it was armor or weapons...only certain classes/races could use it...and if it was scaled so a level 20 could use it, then a level 65 would definately laugh at it.
The only thing I think they could have put in that would have been better would perhaps be a charm item, but that's just because I don't know much about them except they scale in power...and I'm not even sure on that lol. But charms are probably the only reason to get the LoY expansion.

Well, it's also a hella cool expansion with great quests and decent exp. /shrugBut charms are probably the only reason to get the LoY expansion.
The charms in LoY completely suck no matter what lvl you are. If you have no intention of setting foot in LoY, I guess it would be worth the purchase just for the bank slots, if that is the angle you are going for.
My ass! 80 HP 100 Mana on the Intricate Wooden Charm (at least the SHM version) is teh win! It has resists and stats etc as well, well worth the expansion for me right there - I bought LoY for the bank slots. The charms in LoY completely suck no matter what lvl you are.
But like you suggested, I haven't stepped foot in the new zones although I understand they are great for the intended levels.
The container bonus item is ... eh. Not quite bargain-basement Rallic Pack (even once upgraded), but Rallic Packs are lore and the next best thing is a tink bag at like 5K, so it's a nice deal for lower levels (or the perpetually cash strapped).

Yeah, but that charm was (and is) the only charm item that you can get outside of LoY. It is a PoP charm. Furthermore, you can have that charm with one single flag and it will be better than anything you can get in LoY. It just made LoY charms suck that much more!My ass! 80 HP 100 Mana on the Intricate Wooden Charm (at least the SHM version) is teh win! So, you have to have LoY to take advantage of the PoP charm, which is kick-ass. Kinda of a sneaky way for SoE to do things...

Weight reducers are the win. But at least the initial one sounds kinda crappy.
You don't need LoY to be able to use charms. It's just that until the flag charm they added, the only places they dropped were in LoY and they were No Drop. So people just assumed you needed LoY to use charms.
Cartalas sucks as a troll. Way to help a friend out there buddy!
