I hate CA also!

Sacramento use to be ok, but now everyone from the bay area is moving here. Driving the COL too fucking high.

A new home runs 400k now. That is a 3br 2ba 2k sq ft, with a pool.

That is fucking ridiculous.

The only thing that keeps us here is my wifes parents, but even that isnt going to last much longer. I want out!!

relative to the other 49 states, it's high...relative to most european countries, i'm sure it's nothing.

Here in the US, any amount of state income tax is stupid. Most states are run by ever bigger idiots than the Fed.

What kills me about CA is how they tax the shit out of everything that even sniffs Californian airspace, but couldn't manage to keep their power grid online.

I've been a lot of places, personally LOVE SF, NYC and Chicago but I don't think I would want to live anywhere for very long but right here... Conway, Arkansas baby! Why? Yea Yea I'm sure most people think, Arkansas? WTF? But let me throw you out some facts...

1. Small town 40,000 but 30 min from Little Rock (Capital).
2. Excellent public school system in Conway (one of the good ones here)
3. 3 College/Universities in Town including Hendrix College - Consistently ranked one of the in the Top Liberal Arts Schools in the S/SE.
4. Multiple Crystal Clear Lakes within 15 min...
5. Deer and Turkey Hunting w/in 15 min...
6. Heh, it's Arkansas... of course we have guns
7. Wal-Mart, Tyson, ALLTEL, Stephens Inc. and Acxiom (Fortune 500 withing commuting distance)
8. 2MBit Down/384K up for $39.99 per month (had Cable modems since 1996... yes that's 1996)
9. Average House, with pool and a couple of acres of land (3 BD, 2BTH ~2000 sq ft) - $120,000 (this leaves money for boats, motorcycles, jet skis, extra vacations, more computers etc...)
10. Digital Cable, all the goodness of sat. but works when it storms

Of course we have rednecks but you can either a.) become one b.) laugh at them for good entertainment c.) get to know some and realize they may have a house on blocks but they would probably give you one of those blocks if they thought you needed it.

Who knows, I might actually move to Chicago for a couple of years or to Raleigh/Duram but plan to be here when my son (and hopefully more soon) starts school. Eventually having a small house in Conway and another in either Heber Springs on Greers Ferry or Hot Springs on Lake Ouchita. Until then I know that on a corporate Jet I can be anywhere in the US in a matter of hours... but at night I can go out, have a smoke and listen to the silence like I'm going to do right now... ah
