I figured this should have it's own thread since it seems I'm not the only one that saw it this weekend ;)

I thought it was a rather fun movie as long as you could suspend your disbelief a great deal. The take on all the fictional greats was rather corny from the start, but by the middle of the film, it really didn't seem as bad. Some of the characters were a lot of fun, and they were definately the super heros of their time.

If you can ignore the gapping plot holes, I think most people would find something to like about this movie. I give it a 7.75 out of 10. It dosen't really hold up well to the other summer blockbusters released so far, but it was still a popcorn movie at heart.

I challange people to come up wit their own League of Extrodinary Gentlemen! Here's my list!

The Lone Ranger
Zorro
Tarzan
Mork
Fonzie
Crocodile Dundee
Rambo

Seriously, wouldn't that be the coolest super-but-not-really-super team of all time? Mork could call Orson for advice whenever they were in a real jam. He could also drink liquids with his finger. Fonzie could start mechanical units with a kick and a "Eeeeeeey", while working the women at every opportunity. Tarzan talking to animals, Zorro slicing shit up, Lone ranger just being in his super gay costume, Rambo blowing everything up, Crocodile Dundee using his whacky Australian lifestyle to solve all sorts of complex problems...

It would be fucking sweet dude, and you know it.

Saw it Saturday.

Not a bad film, but it definitely could have been better. Should have been more play on the vampire and Dr. Jekyl, less on Quartermain.

Not a bad way to waste and evening.

Was very good, I thought. Not a recordbreaker, but Sean Connery is so grand. I really, really liked the way they played Dr. Jekyl vs Mr. Hide -- that was very, very cool. I deffinately like the way he shifted to and from each, that in and of itself was really cool to watch.

One big question: WHY did they let the vampire walk around in broad daylight? Forgive me if I am wrong but even in the origional dracula lore, sunlight was as fatal to his kind as sucking down a gallon of battery acid is to ours.

That aside.. got some really good quotes out of this movie.
"That was naughty" - Alan Quartermain
"What are you?" "Complicated." - random thug to Dorian Grey
"You broke my heart once. This time, you missed." - The Lady to Dorian
Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan
I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Thing is with the Whole, walking in daylight thing, there are so many items of folklore and modern fiction that really the only surefire way to kill a vampire is to cut his/her head off, but theres not much else that would live with its head cut off

Sounds like they took the VTM approach, vampires can walk around in the day, they might not be as powerful as they are at night, but they dont burst into flames

Actually Kwon, I'd say the ladies favorites were Dorian and Alan Quartermain.

Cotto: I know that's what's said in the "modern" tales of vampness (some of them, at least) but I've always felt that as a travesty as to what the origional stories and tales were. I mean, think of it. You have a race of creatures that are capable of:

Flight (depending)
Mistform (also depending)
Limited animal controll or form (again, depending)
Cannot be killed by standard weapons fire (less of course, it blows the head literally Off)
Has superhuman strength
Feeds on blood - any kind, really
Will recover from limb amputations (depending. Lots of back and forth on this, depending on the tale)
Has an aversion to holy objects (depending; some of the more recent tales inflict this not on the object but on the belief of the person holding it)
Superhman Speed
...and are generally souless monsters with no quams of torture and maiming anyone.

Sunlight is the only thing that really prevents them form just taking over.. /shrug

Well, as far as I know, Capt. Nemo wasn't a fucking ninja either and no one's really complaining about that little addition ;)

What i am curious about is what kind of person the bad-guy(s) are.

Seems like some crazy madman with a personal army?

How can that match the SuperLeague?

Immortal and Vampire shrugging off bullets, Invisble fellow cant even be seen etc and what can stop Mr Hyde?

A lil bit unbalanced?

Or was the bad-guy a superhero too?

Was Sawyers special move, Summon Huckleberry?

True about sunlight. But also from a more lore perspective, garlic and silver were effective (well...in theory, it was most likely never tried...at least on a vampire)
Also the whole stake through the heart, but according to VTM it only paralises them

-shrug-
With fictional beings, or creatures of such myth, it really is hard to tie down any facts, movies and story writers can pretty much give and take the points of strength and weakness they find appealing.

Explaining that would blow the movie sir.

Vampires don't have problems with steaks..it's stakes that piss them off.

Anyway Vampire lore is too inconsistant to really nitpick...unless they based it off a specific vampire book...like say is it specifically Count Dracula? If it is, then it should abide by the rules found in it's specific book.

Anyway, I ahevn't seen the movie yet but even the previews made me go "wtf?" Because most of those characters either didn't have much of a super power or if they did, they had an unquenchable blood thirst or uncontrollable madness....that type of flaw would prove to be a fatal one...maybe not in a LXG vs the bad guy type scenerio but more of an LXG vs LXG scenario where say a member of the team didn't feel like getting his blood sucked, or head bashed in.

I mean yes they are some of the more extraordinary members of the team, but they are also not typically capable of teamwork.

Well, Moriarty may not have super powers per say, but he is a sneaky bastard. So, it's kinda like Lex Luthar is one of Superman's biggest enemies, although Lex does not have any powers of his own. He's just crafty as all get-out.

I think Kwon single-handedly used up VV's entire stash of exclamation marks - sorry guys, no more until the next shipment arrives by ship from Hong Kong. I propose we use the ¤ as a replacement until then¤¤¤

COME ON, IT'S A GREAT SUGGESTION¤¤¤
