I'm not a huge fan of Bruckheimer movies. I'm curious as to how he is going to fit an obnoxiously edited car chase involving a humvee into a pirate movie though.
I am of the opinion that it is just too f00ken difficult to make a pirate film. They always seem to leave in those ultra-cheezy jokes and pirate quarks. Totally ruins it for me.
With that said...I will be drawn to go see this one, in hopes that it will rock...but definitly not expecting much.
It doesn't matter if this movie sucks massive amounts of dick. I'll go see it anyways for no other reason than because Orlando Bloom is in it (in a pirate costume no less!).

WITH MORE EXPLOSIONS THAN SHOCK AND AWE!!!!
I seriously hate the amount of gratuitous explosions in Bruckheimer's films. On top of which, what the fuck are cars and helicopters even doing in this movie?
Saw it last night. Definitely my favorite so far this year. I got quickly bored of the soundtrack since they use that same symphony chorus over and over again...but that really was the only thing I didn't like.
The special FX are great and well done. Actors really brought all the characters to life. And for you snatch fans...Johnny Dep says all kinds of unintelligable things just like Brad Pitt...
So in conclusion, go see it. yo ho ho ho a pirates life for me!
I went to the same double-header as Aranuil, in a different location.
Saw LXG first and while it wasn't a blockbuster movie I enjoyed it. The action is pretty good. The twists on using various fictional characters for all the main players was pretty interesting if you've read the books. Or even if you have an idea of who those characters are.
PotC was much better. Johnny Depp (who I don't much care for anyway) really made the movie.
I'll probably wind up going to see both again, as one of my daughters didn't get to go. I think I'll enjoy seeing them both again.
Pirates was great, deffinately on my "must buy" list when it comes out on DVD.
Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.
I enjoyed it Depp was fantastic, the effects blended well...there were maybe 5 minutes of sword fighting at the end that could have been cut...but I didn't mind.
it was ok, but i thought pirates was reeally cheezy, the pirates had the stereotypic clothes and the arrrrg matee deal going, you could def tell it was a disney movie, but it was pretty good for an action flick
they took the dog thing and a lot of the scenery from that ride at disney

I went and saw this this afternoon , Great flick. The only issue I had was that they drug the last 30 mins or so on for NO reason, just to add more fight scenes is what I think , you could have done what needed to be done Way earlier in the finale part of the flick. All thos e that have seen ... do you agree ? the coin the blood , about 30 mins earlier ?
Fantastic movie, I thought it was really well made.... comedy, great fight scenes , good storyline...... the only annoying thing for me was the accents, being a tad hard of hearing (too much Heavy Metal at high volumes... so they say ) it was a bit tough understanding what was being said at points...
This is a definate must buy when it's released on DVD.
I really enjoyed PoC when I saw it today. While I agree that you really can't do a pirate movie without getting something wrong, PoC managed to entertain very well without getting too cheesy or trying to be too realistic. I am a little confused why they did not just do the blood and coin bit earlier, but I guess they just wanted to toss in a couple more sword fights and some Jack Sparrow vs Barbossa action.
Johnny Depp did a great job playing his character in my opinion; he really brought out the semi-crazy pirate that you never really know who's side he is on. Orlando Bloom was good in his role of playing the hero, was interesting to see him without the bleached hair and pointy ears. Kiera Knightly was definatly good looking in her role as well.
As a side-note on LXG; I enjoyed it but I don't think I would rewatch it in the theater if I was doing it again. I thought it had a lot of potential with all the characters they had but they never really went anywhere with it. If they had more of a detailed story and some more interaction between the League and M they could have done a lot more with it.
LXG KINDA SPOILER...just about the chars not really the storyline
...the imortal dude had a "portrait" that aged instead of him, if he looks at it, he would age and the portrait would turn into him, meaning he would die becouse the portraits like 500 years old or something
Captain nemo was an Indian dude with a huge ass submarine that was like invincable and he had like a 500 man crew, and a little of a martial artist, so with all that hes pretty much even with the imortal dude
LXG had nice special effects but the movie sucked ass. Seriously. Totally disjointed with a bunch of special effects thrown at you.
Pirates of the Caribbean was entertaining with some funny lines. Johnny Depp played the gay pirate well. To those whining about the movie being somewhat cheesy...it was supposed to be a bit cheesy. The ride at Disneyland is cheesy but lots of fun. Quit being so anal!
I'd recommend Pirates for exactly the reasons the people here criticized it. It doesn't take itself seriously and is entertaining to watch.
I didn't like the way they handled Mr. Hyde visually.
I thought he was well written, and the actor who played Dr. Jeckll did a good job, but the animation looked cheesy for Mr. Hyde.
Nemo's character seemed like a rushed afterthought. He was cool, but the movie was kind of like watching an episode of the Superfriends or something. Almost impossible to really showcase all of the heroes as much as needed.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
I didn't think the PoC was cheesy at all. I thought it was whimsical in the same way that The Princess Bride is - I guess some would call that cheesy too. I thought the casting was excellent and the storyline above-average. I'm not big on action movies so you would think that the end with all the sword fighting and explosions going on for as long as they did would annoy me more than your average viewer who's into that sort of thing but I didn't mind it at all. Johnny Depp was brilliant (biased since he's one of my favorite actors) and Geoffrey Rush was also outstanding. All in all, I would prolly rate it a 4 out of 5 stars, savvy?
