So. Planetside.. worth it?
Honest to all folks. Is planetside worth another 12$ a month to SoE?

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Hmmm perhaps a more complete answer is in order...
The Good:
*Gameplay is generally smooth as silk on my rig. I have all detail turned on, and it plays exceptionally well.
*Gameplay itself suffers from VERY few technical issues. The game is completely functional as advertised.
*There is no other game like it. Tribes 2 players might argue that, but they're wrong.
*I'm a member of Wetworks, and they fucking rock.
The Bad:
*There are a lot of other players who are simply retarded. This is nothing new from all the other MMOGs.
*Some people might not enjoy the large battles which can be highly chaotic.
*There are some MINOR, MINOR balance issues at the moment. They are in no way game threatening, but just a few weapons/vehicles need to be tweaked here and there.

Too true about the retarded players. I see them every night. And I really am bothered by the Camp fest which is base capping.
Although I am not in an outfit, I generally do pretty well with finding capable players. I luckily found a few right off and now they invite me along and I meet even more. I dont really like the idea of sitting around doing nothing. Hell, I can do that in POK in EQ if I wanted.
One of the really cool things is being able to change your role in a squad so easily if you have the certs. Right now, I can be either a driver/engineer, engineer/medic, driver/medic, or just engineer or medic. Really allows for OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of change and I dont get bored that way.

The small battles are the cool ones. Small as in not major targets. 2+ hour battles for an air tower totally owns. You get zerged in the end but its funny to watch a team figure out that you took a tower, set up defenses around the tower and then start calling in backup. Now if capturing towers gave xp. *sigh*

Definately worth it, I've been having nothing but fun for hours with this game, nothing like the boring sitting around like EQ commonly put out. Log in, go to the action, get a squad, and your set for hours. Fits all playing styles, those who want to be in on the action all the time up close and personal (tank, MAX, infantry), fliers (reavers, mosquitos), people who like to do things behind the scenes to help their side (transport with Galaxy's, AMS driver, ANT driver), the guy who lurks in the dark and strikes people when they don't expect it (infiltrators, snipers). It really has something for everyone.

Depends, if your just out to kill some people, you can easily do it in 30 minutes... Its not like EQ at all in the sense that if you go to sanctuary for an hour, you'll miss the raid. The battles are perpetual, they won't be in the same place as before, the base may not be possessed by the same faction, but the battles keep on going. So, you can log in for 30 minutes and have fun, or you can stay on for several hours and have fun.

I still think its worth it, for now. The Dev team has been making some net code patches the last few days with unbelievably quick downtime. Server-side fixes that take 5 minutes then the server is back up.
While there are still bugs in game, I am impressed with the time-to-respond/fix. Still run across a bug from time to time where I'm forced to recall to sanctuary, but at least the exp loss bug seems to be gone.
For $13 a month, it isn't bad. Plus you can hop in, play for an hour, recall, log. Or you can play for 6 - 8 hours easily. Depends on your own mood.

Plus, the game has only been out a few weeks and already they have several new vehicles, concepts etc coming out. I can't wait to fly around a bomber. The game will keep getting better if they keep adding stuff.

Will be intersting to see how the bomber evades. Wonder if it will be able to go above the 400 meter ceiling. But damn, talk about a grief machine. Better make sure you aren't in range of a friendly bomber.

Bombers in the game as it was in beta (yeah yeah, still can't afford to spend the 40 bucks to buy retail yet) would have been hell for a number of reasons.
1) Grief - Anyone that played/plays a pounder can tell you about that, and generally THEY can see what they are hitting. Imagine being at flight ceiling and dropping AE weapons.
2) Framerate - Having explosions is one thing when they are rendered from start to finish (tank), but think about how Reaver missiles were removed to prevent you from having the missile rendered when it would only be visible for a second or so before blowing up. Do you think the bombs would be rendered?
3) ok, this one might be a good reason for it. The game does need a larger AA, AV vehicle. Think about the bombers in WW2, they had to stick in formations, but when they did and did it right, the Luftwaffe have even said it was a pita to get in close enough to really do much to slow the advance.
Overall, good idea...but don't see it being implemented well.

Thought so. Thanks broZamtuk wrote:AMP. Well if your NC which you are, then maybe the Scatter-Pistol. The knife is alright, 2 maybe 3 stabs in secondary and their dead, but the downfall is that they can hear it. I prefer the AMP because it will usually kill anyone faster than they can react to it.

I would definitely say AMP. The bottom line is that it's far more versatile than the knife (i.e. mines). Even though you still have to be right up on someone to be truly effective, you don't have to stab someone 5 times in primary, or twice in the alt-fire mode for the knife.
