Ok, I'm looking for a good FPS game. Just pulled Jedi Knight 2 out again after like a year, and am still in the mood after beating it. Here's what I'm looking for tho:
- A good single player storyline
- Preferably futuristic in theme
- Huge plus if the story can be played in a cooperative mode
I don't care about PvP, just doesn't get my blood going. I remember playing Doom 2 cooperative with a friend of mine (or was it Doom?), and it was a serious blast. This was years and years ago of course. Would like to find another game like that if possible.

Deus Ex
Max Payne isnt quite FPS but they did an excellent job with the cliche action-movie story
RtcW has a great story until it gets paranormal, still fun
and half-life of course
none of them are coop, but not many fps are these days.. at any rate, you wont be disappointed with any of those

If you haven't played System Shock 2 yet you have to. It's more like an RPG than a FPS but it plays like a shooter as well. Most major software stores like EB will have it in the bargain section because EA re-released it under their EA Classics line.
It's easily one of the best games ever made.

Unlike many, I thoroughly enjoyed Unreal 2.
The graphics are jaw-dropping, the missions are varied and interesting (although some are a little short) and the sound is top notch.
It's one of the few games that made me jump out of my seat (a couple of times)... big drawback is no multiplayer... at all.
NOFL2 is very good.
Serious Sam is good mindless carnage.

HAve to Back Kyo. SS2 was one of the most unique and challenging games I ever played. Great Atmosphere and story too.

I just got a hold of a game that isn't out yet called Delta Force: Black Hawk Down which is a quasi realistic first person shooter based on the Somali conflict. It's really fucking fun if you are in army stuff. I just played the first mission and I had a blast. You start the mission as part of a group of Humvees set out to back up a convoy of UN trucks filled with food that has broken down and is being attacked by Somali geurillas. You are sitting in the turret operating the mounted .50 calibre machine gun while you race there killing off attacking soldiers and technicals (pickups with mounted machine guns). Everything blows up really nicely. I made some screenshots but I am linking them because they are huge. Ignore the shitty jpeg compression. (YOU HAVE TO RIGHT CLICK ON THE LINKS AND SELECT COPY SHORTCUT AND PASTE THEM INTO A NEW BROWSER WINDOW)

http://puddle.freewebspace.com/blackhawk/SS00012.jpg
Once you arrive you fight off a little more and then go on foot to take out a small encampment of
bad guys, and then a black hawk lands to pick you up. Then the fun really starts when you take control of one of those major gatling guns mounted on the blackhawks. The convoy is on the move now but still being attacked so the chopper pilot does 4 or 5 wide circles around the convoy while you spray fucking
everything with your gatling gun.

The game also has some nice touches like the ability to mount your rifle on your shoulder and actually use the
iron sights to aim more accurately (as opposed to the ubiquitous magic cross hairs in the middle of the screen).

I thought that game was supposed to be out 4 or 5 months ago. All of the Delta Force games were at least fun to play. The AI in them was not exactly top notch, but the sheer volume of the bad guys could make up for it somewhat. This one looks like it will easily surpass their best to date though.

I'm still playing the fuck out of Battlefield 1942. That game is the shit. I even read the instruction booklet the other day and figured out how to fly planes (finally).
It's pretty much a flawless game experiance IMO.

I still think the best thing in that game is sinking the battleships with those bombers. STALINGRAD IS TEH OWN!!111!!

One of my all time favorite games is Ghost Recon, very good multiplayer Coop as well as very immersive and replayable single player campaigns. It strives to be a "realistic" fps. You do have teammates, even in single player that you have some control over.. telling them where to go on the map and what rules of engagement to follow, etc. Its sort of a tactical FPS. Very fun.

Getting a good group of players in the B-52 is by far the most enjoyable experiance in that game for me. Ball turrent owns all.

AvP 2 + expansion(s?) was pretty pimp. Cant remember if it was co-op or not. Playing a marine and feeling pred's, aliens breathing down on you was pretty pimp.

1942 - still one hell of a dam good game especially cuz of current events in the news
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - realistic combat in the cities. room to room while covering other teammates in team combat, or going out solo blazing against everyone else playing in freeforall mode, etc lol

Medal of Honor is good. Lots of fun, very realistic. Supposedly has a cooperative mode in multiplayer, but I haven't tried that yet.

I don't have the link here at work, but my roommate was telling me that there is apparently a huge update to Tribes2 that came out recently with hella new shit. He said something about a 250 Meg DLoad.

Is there cooperative mode in Jedi Knight II? If so, Dregor and I are gonna have to bust some heads on the imperials. Then I'll turn against him and make him my young apprentice.

Damn it all! I was so looking forward to taunting Dregor in JKII. "Strike me down, my young apprentice, and your journey to the dark side will be complete!"

Got ahold of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Man, this things nice. Making me realize how much I suck at FPS's, haha. They aren't my usual thing. But I'm loving the feel of the game right now.

I mostly hate FPS games. They're just not my bag, baby. But Jedi Outcast rocked; I loved the Force abilities and lightsaber combat. Much different from your typical shoot-em-up game.

I honestly think that RtCW is the best single player FPS to be released since like... half-life.

Jesus Christ. I started getting into the supernatural stuff, and I agree Kyou, I wished it had stayed "real". But christ thats tense! The games so dark even with gamma jacked up, and it's hard to see these undead guys. I love the variety of weapons tho...

I've been playing that a lot lately - it's a BF42 mod and it's a ton of fun especially if you know the people you're playing with. I can't wait for the next patch!

Another bargain bin game you may want to give a try is Oni. Not everyone likes it, but if you liked the visuals and style of Shogo, you would probably really like this game as well. Its sort of a combination of a fighting game and a FPS.

the nfo was blank, but i got one... now when i try to play it just says wrong disc inserted. aparently theres suppost to be a crack directory after i unrar it, but there isn't so thats my problem.

Well, I've decided RtCW is too damned dark to play. My monitors at full brightness, in-game gamma is at full... it's just too dark to see wtf I'm doing in some places (and I dont mean parts of areas... like, all the damned catacombs level). Is there anything else I can do? I've always felt my monitor was a little darker than normal... I've checked the display settings in XP, can't find a gamma adjustment or anything.

MOHAA is a great FPS. America's Army is another good one but it's still in demo mode as far as I know (it's been a few months). Black Hawk Down is a great game to play. I used to play the multiplayer demo constantly. Hitman 2 is a really good game as well and is worth checking out.
