This is a fun little nugget of information for those that care. I just wrapped up AC Syndicate and Rogue this weekend and they really did something convoluted with their chronology of events with AC3 and beyond.
Here it goes chronologically
1 - AC: Black Flag
2 - AC3 (First part with Haytham Kenway up until the first section with Connor)
2.5 - AC Freedom Cry
3 - AC: Rogue (Most of the game except for the Epilogue)
3.5 - AC: Liberation
4 - AC3: 2nd part with Connor
5 - AC: Rogue (Epilogue)
6 - AC: Unity
It's all bit convoluted and makes for fun little woven thread of events that span ~ 100 years. The storyline seems to be much more about Haytham Kenway's tenure as Templar Grand Master than about any specific assassin.
Also, Syndicate doesn't tie into any of this narrative at all. It's a pretty cut and dry story that doesn't really move the precursor or modern day subplot in any appreciable way.
That being said, it's a real blast to play, the characters are fun and memorable and the whole thing was over much too quickly for my liking. Think Arkham City meets AC2.

Re: Assassin's Creed Chronology
This one is a lot more Mark of the Ninja than Assassin's Creed. It's an interesting little stealth side scroller.
