Chicken Cola

Post by Tegellan »

Simple recipe for a delicious oven baked chicken, you will excuse me if the measurements are european:

You need:
One largish chicken, about 6 pounds.

Marinade:
2 deciliters cola, any kind, but regular not diet, you need the sugar
1 small can of tomato pure
1 deciliter brown sugar (the lumpy dark brown sticky stuff)
½ deciliter of soy sauce
1 teaspoon sambal oelek
2-3 cloves of garlic
3 centimeters of fresh ginger

Combine the marinade ingredients in a blender and run until smooth, then smear it on the chicken and make sure to save some to smear on it once or twice while in the oven.

I suggest heating the oven to 160 degrees C, and putting the chicken in for 1½ to 2 hours, the lower temperature makes the meat much juicier in my experience.

Suggestions for serving:
Oven baked potato boats and cole slaw

You can get it at Asian markets I would think, over here you can get it in most well assorted supermarkets too, so i assumed it was easy to get in the US too. But any Asian market should have it for sure.

And yes, no cups or crap here, we like our deciliters!

I always have a small container of sambal oelek or sriracha in my fridge. They've become one of my most used condiments as I like a little kick to many of the things I prepare, without the acidity that Tabasco or jalapenos impart (although those have their places too)

Great on sandwiches!
