It's a shame to me that there exist people such as Valaron. I surround myself with friends and i tend to let my trust fall outside of that safe circle...

For anyone who has missed the details of the story, here is how things went...

We often allow guests on our weekly highbie raids and this was no exception. We allowed Valaron to tag along and share in the loot. Sadly we are now unable to determine who told him of the raid channel and allowed him along.

Early into the raid Valaron suggested an exchange of weapons for the duration of the raid. I agreed to use his Argent Protector and he would use my Long Sword of Ethereal Energy. As the raid drew to a close he asked if I would be willing to make the trade final to which I replied no. Not enough that he was given a nice 2hb that dropped during the raid he then promptly got a Translocate to bind and camped out with my sword still in his posession.

Yes, I DID do a /report valaron INSTANTLY when he made his intentions clear, but as usual I never heard back from a GM that night and hoped that the following day would prove to me that he simply had to log off quickly for reasons of his own.

The following day we quickly discovered his true intentions as he had apparently already sold the LSoEE. We contacted his guild and found an officer. Finding in our favor Valaron was given the choice to return the item or be deguilded as this was dishonorable. He deguilded himself along with a sarcastic comment or two which I think says enough about him right there.

He then offered me face to face that if I ported him to WC he would get and return my LSoEE. As we were at the zone in to FV this was obviously just another scam, this time for a free ride. He grouped with me for a port and we dropped him off in the Plane of Hate. I said that we would get him a rez and out after he returned my LSoEE. I asked the raiding force there NOT to assist him but the word was not spread fast enough among them apprently as he was TL'd out. Grrr.. In the game there is NO way to deal with liars and cheaters and con artists. The GM's have proven time and time again to be a step below worthless in resolving anything.

At this point Valaron offered me 12kpp to let it go instead of spreading the word of his deeds. This of course was nothing more than a diversionary tactic as when I asked when I would be paid he simply offered his good word (HA!).

My only recourse now was to let people know what happened and not allow Valaron to continue his con on anyone else.

Yes, I have his Argent Protector, but I don't want it and didn't at anytime indicate that I did want it.

I'm angry and I'm frustrated - Valaron took a gesture of good will and turned it sour. Valaron took advantage of me and rubbed it in my face. Yes, he got the upper hand and he proved that he was nothing more than a deceptive liar. I have no one to blame but myself.

I will however go to bed tonight knowing that in the face of this event I got the support of basically everyone in the guild, and many friends from other guilds who took my word based on my history of honesty. Then beyond that I was offered plenty of assistance in replacing the lost item.

I've learned that he has come up with a story of his own and is trying to convince people that my story is untrue. What seems obvious is usually true - who would and why would anyone take the time and effort to create a story as this and campaign it otherwise?

I feel for your loss bud. Things like this do two things. First the cheapen and destroy trust. It makes the game much less fun to play. Second, it makes for great conversation on the boards. We will have days of fun trashing this thief and hearing exploits similar in nature.

Closest you can get to fear is the wiz portal to the center of the Cazic Maze. Might have been a good place to drop him off especially since most do not know how to get out of the maze.

Now I read your edit, dropping him off in Hate was a good idea. I still like cazic maze better for its a higher lvl zone and the mobs hit much much harder.

I had a sarnark battle sword stolen in the same manner about 4 days after Kunark was released. (hey, it was uber to me, no one had ever even seen one before) I have never shared equipment in an exp group since then. Bastards like that ruin the game.

We had considered CT, but its too easy to step in and get a summon, plus he's only level 46, so we hoped he'd die and unding... I know thats Evil, but still.. It's a shame to waste a 112 pp stone just to get him in to PoH, but would have been worth it had they not TL'd him out =\

IF anyone else see's him looking for port and drops him in PoH for me, I'll be MORE than happy to cover any losses or expenses!

Or if he's looking for help on a CR, get consent and drag it as far as possible AWAY !

Fuck bro I think I am the one that Rezzed this fucktard. Shit I am sorry. I got a tell from someone asking me to rez Valaron at the gatehouse in Fear so since it was only a click I did it. The unfortunate part is that we had a Wizard with us and she TL'd him.

As soon as I rezzed this asshole I wished I hadn't. As soon as he popped at his corpse he started spamming requests for a TL. Fanadile TL'd him just to shut him up. Sorry bud but I will be on the look out for him.

Hrmm I like the idea of porting him to Hate better than CT. Much harder to retrieve your corpse in Hate.

Rumor is he's done a /changelog to get to the Karanna server. It seems highly unlikely to me since he'd lose his gear. More likely he's saying that to throw us off and has put in for a name change.

I'll be looking on Karana and the namechange service once it's up.

For the record - I've had many kind offers in game to help me recover the loss, I can't bring myself to take anyone up on it - but I thank you all anywhoo =)

Good to know there's good people out there to balance out people like Valaron.

Just wanted to be a good citizen and report a sighting of this thief. He was running a casino in the stables of the Bazaar as I write this. Hope this helps put the squeeze on this trash.

If ever I was Dictator of the Universe, I'd require all online games have a "vote the dumbass off the server" feature.

Requirement 1: The dumbass has to have a negative soulmark flagged on him by a GM.

Requirement 2: If they have a soul mark against them they're open game to being voted off the server. If a dumbass gets 500 votes against him in a 48 hour time period he's banned.

Imagine steamrolling someone knowing that you could piss off enough people to have your ass banned.

Imagine how fast Erny would of been hammered, or that druid guy that kept harrasing CoE women.

They'd have to have a GM soulmark against them to trigger voting as a safeguard againt people just going apeshit and voting off a non offender.



I dunno, maybe its too rough a concept to perfect. But it was a novel thought for 30 seconds.

Go n to any adminmod counterstrike server or any quake 3 varient game server that allows player voting and you'll see why thats a bad idea. people are jealous fags and instead of just accepting the fact that they suck, they feel the need to accuse a person whose been killing them frequently of cheating or whatever and everyone will just vote him off even if he is a legitimate player.

As far as GM compensation, you have to get lucky. A nice GM will look into it thoroughly and might determine in your favor. However the official GM stance is IF YOU HIT THE TRADE BUTTON, YOU ARE ACCEPTING THE TRADE AS IT STANDS IN THAT WINDOW.

This means, if you put it in the trade window, and both people hit the trade button, its officially the other persons, just in case I wasn't clear enough.

But it wouldn't be the first time i've heard of shit being reimbursed...just giving you a lookout. Good luck and if I find out he lives by me, i'll use many methods in the "papering" thread to deal with him
