You can now make it look a lot like it previously did. Go into the User Control Panel, go into Board Settings (or something along those lines) and choose the SubSilver2 theme.
That'll move avatars back to the left and it will look very similar to how it used to look.

Just don't change your email address. It will set your account inactive!

That happened on the old board too, I was hoping it'd be fixed in phpBB3.
I changed account activation back to user, I'm wondering if that'll allow you to change your email address without it setting you to inactive. Hopefully the new version won't be so susceptible to spammers and bots.

Jesus Christ, put some fucking effort into it or don't even waste my time.
New board is still stupid looking. Was it really worth changing everything so we can filter new posts from old ones?

You're right, that's all that it did for us. I stayed up till 4am last night to make the board uglier and provide one meaningless improvement.
Oh that's pretty rad, new board tells you if you're about to submit a reply to a thread that someone has posted to in the meantime, and shows you said posts.

That was a legitimate question though, and one for which we still haven't gotten a good answer.
Why are you & your brother such worthless pieces of shit anyway? Were your parents 30 kinds of fucked up? Were you two abused as kids? Did you abuse each other? Were you in a cult that warped your little developing minds? Or were you just terribly unlucky in the genetic lottery we all played?
Give us a clue and help us understand.

Oh you and your opinions again... We grew up in a loving family that served in the armed forces. We grew up with a good basis in religion and later cast it aside. We're both healthy, upstanding, contributing members of society. Aside from that, My brother and I are not much alike, and have gone through periods where we didn't speak to each other (sometimes because of this board, even!).
I enjoy discussing things with you all, and unlike some of you, I do my best to keep my arguments on topic... Very rarely if ever do I ever make anything personal or attack one specific person.
We can agree to disagree without trying to insult each others intelligence, which we truly know nothing about.
Have a great day!!

I like the new layout. It will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm pleased. The only thing that's not 100% to my liking is the little circles next to the forum names make it a little harder to see which forums have new posts, the change is more subtle than in subsilver. If I could have the subsilver circles in prosilver, I'd be set.

Even Xatrei, "just give me a command line" D'Linux recognizes the benefit of upgrading to phpBB3.
It takes awhile to get the tweaks back in place.
I like how you can choose to show images, avatars, flash, etc in preferences. Maybe we can get embedded you tube with the option to enable/disable in preferences as well down the road!

[*]etc

rellix wrote:set subsilver2 as the default prehops?
It is now, but the phpBB team is pushing prosilver as the new standard. So when the board conversion happened and prosilver was the default, it set that up for each individual user. I can force override to subsilver so no one has a choice, or you guys can go in one time and change it yourselves. I opted for the latter.

the new prosilver with avatars on the left would be OK. I'm going to try and get used to the new look theme.
I'm wondering if there's any differences between the two besides looks. I know we had that problem with our previous themes (missing ignore buttons, etc). When mods come out, they'll probably be designed for Prosilver.

To get it back to normal simply enable the subsilver2 theme and deactivate the prosilver and it should revert to what it looks like as the old phpbb2 stock where shit actually looks correct:
http://www.theusualgroup.com/phpbb3
You can see there what the subsilver2 theme is.

Use the "View New Posts" option on the main forum index and you'll get a nice list of new posts since your last visit (last time you closed your browser):

View new posts is great, but it has the same problem it had on the previous incarnation of the forums... there are forums that I literally don't give a shit about. Unlike Miir, I don't take time out of my day to hop into someone elses forum of interest and shit all over it 'just to stimulate conversation', so forums like EQ1, LotRO, Ogame, etc. I just avoid and don't care to see new posts from.
As far as the VG forums go. I see what you're trying to do, understand it, and am in favor of it, but is there a way it can be accomplished that doesn't involve me having to scroll down half a page to read the regular VG forum topics?

Whoa, I just noticed all those new console forums. That might be a bit much! That's a lot of clicking to get to articles.
There might not be enough traffic for all those separate forums imo.
The video gaming forum seems to handle itself well with individual threads popping up for single games for any format while the MMOs do deserve their own forums as they get much more detailed info typically.
Dunno, but I'll probably tend to post in the main gaming forum no matter what the format. Could have a PC Game forum as well the way that's broken down! The traffic doesn't seem to push threads off the first page faster than people can read them which is a good gauge sometimes for the need for sub-forums. The new search feature will come more into play, the more sub forums there are. Just don't want peeps missing posts because they can't check so many forums at work!
New catch phrase on VV: "Dude, you've been sub-forum'd!"

I actually like the changes. As you'll note in my screenshot, I'm using the newer styled forum template.
Aslanna, there's probably a better way to do it that will at least save some of the space at the top of the screen. Perhaps moving the MMOGs to their own Parent forum outside of the VG forum; just as an example.

I'm sticking with the new theme as well. It took a solid day of screwing around with it to get used to it. As with Vista, there's not immediate gratification but it's the better choice!

You know what I love about implementing changes? It's when they're done to address specific gripes people have made in the past, and then the same people gripe about the changes. Some people just like to gripe.

Not pointing any fingers at anyone specifically... Py set up the subforums, we could probably tweak them a bit. Bear with us, we'll test out a few different things for a while and figure out the best way to set it all up.
Subforums allow us to break things down into categories without having 75 forums on the front page (which people bitched about). If it would be easier for people, we can make it so that the container for the subforums (in this case, VG General) does not allow posts, and instead VG General is a sibling forum of Consoles and MMOs and such rather than the parent. Would that be preferable?
Please note that if you are only interested in specific subforums, you can click on those right from the main page, in the list of subforums that a superforum is parent of.
I've also found the setting to turn the dot off of the thread title images. The dot is there to show if you've posted in that thread. If I hear emphatically either way, I'll turn the dot off or leave it on, but right now my inclination is to go with the default (on).
