Once again I have to expose your incompetent attempt at critical thinking and reasoning for the facade that it really is. Your argument, if I understand correctly (as I always do due to their self admitted simplicity), is that just because the DNC process is not as definitive as say a basketball game, the process is therefore rendered arbitrary. I have only seen this angle of blaming the instrument by which results are found rather than accepting the results used by people who have already lost the argument, namely the Clinton campaign of 2008, the Gore campaign of 2000, Nick referring to the US military, and you in this thread. Truth be told the word simple does not do your argument justice. After all, you are mimicking Hillary Clinton and Nick.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:It is a very tight race. Unlike the NBA playoffs, when you reach that number, the DNC is under no obligation to move that person to the next level. It is a very subjective process, not s definitive one as in the playoffs when you when a 4th game in a best out of 7 series.
I'm disappointed I need to explain such a simple concept as this.

I'm merely ranking what I think is most important from the given choices. In the article, they weigh education vs. (what obama believes is a poorly run) space program. In my mind, education wins. I realize I'm not allowed to reiterate that war in Iraq was totally stupid and a colossal waste of time/money/lives, but I would have been happy to increase funding for both education and NASA each by 50% of the trillions of dollars that the war will end up costing. We probably could have paid for college for every child in America and had a Starbucks opening on Mars in the next few years.Nick wrote:Anyone who thinks NASA funding should be cut to help education is a fucking retard of the highest order. nick.. sylvus.. listen, i have an advanced piece of simulation software that gives me some insight into exactly what would happen if we reallocated our military spending into civic development. let me lay it down for you. the rest of the civilizations in the world would immediately detect our weakening defense force and would soon find it IRRESISTABLE to invade.. REGARDLESS of how much gold we've given them.. REGARDLESS of our long-standing cows-for-wheat trade agreements. if we just sit back and start teching to a space victory then Ghandi will declare war on us. and let me assure you, its virtually impossible to launch space ships or take exams when you have elephant cavalry trampling all over up in your shit

I'm not saying we should cut this deep necessarily, but we could cut our defense budget by 2/3 and still have the strongest military on the planet. Even then we'd still be spending over twice what the next biggest spender does on their military.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
To add to my previous post, our current spending on the military is nearly 10x that of our spending on education, over 10x our spending on health (including research and medicare/medicaid spending, etc.) and about 20x our spending on NASA. I would love to see us reprioritize defense related spending to a more sane level than it is currently, and reallocate the vast majority of that funding into education, health care and science programs (not just space). I'd also like to see a herculean effort to maximize the efficiency of what we spend on things like education and health care (while still expanding to provide universal health care) go hand in hand with increased budgets, because there are in fact some real problems with how we're running things already. How about a "Manhattan Project" for cutting governmental waste and inefficiency?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A majority of Democrats think Barack Obama should select Hillary Clinton as his running mate, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-four percent of registered Democrats questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Friday think Obama should name his rival as his running mate; 43 percent disagreed.
The poll is the first national survey conducted since Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday night, at the end of the primary season. Clinton is expected to announce Saturday that she's suspending her campaign and backing her Senate colleague.
Men and women don't see eye-to-eye on the question. Sixty percent of Democratic women said Clinton should be Obama's running mate, but only 46 percent of male Democrats agreed, while 51 percent of them said no.
Twenty-four percent of those polled said that even if Obama names someone else as his running mate, Clinton should try to override that decision at the Democratic convention in Denver in August. But 75 percent said that would not be a good idea.
"Democrats would like Barack Obama to choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate, but they seem to recognize that it is his choice to make," said Keating Holland CNN polling director. "Some will be disappointed if Obama does not pick Clinton, but not disappointed enough to want a floor fight at the convention."

On the plus side, she is probably better with a shotgun than Cheney...
However, even if the recent CNN poll shows many Dems in favor of a Obama/Clinton ticket, it does not mean it is such a good idea.
Ultimately, it is Obama's choice. Of course, that choice may be made much easier if he really thinks Clinton can take him over the top. Tough to say.... on one hand, I do not like Clinton...on the other, I would like to see Obama in office.

Obama should probably try to find a real female VP candidate instead of Hillary. I heard some rumblings about Karoline Kennedy. Grab her or Maria Shriver. Who cares what their qualifications are. They're linked to the Kennedys.

A female VP candidate whose name is not Hillary Clinton will not happen. If Obama tapped any female other than Clinton, he would alienate too many women that formerly supported Clinton. Personally, I like Bill Richardson or Wesley Clark as a VP choice. I think that either would bring a lot to the ticket, and would serve well to shore up some of Obama's perceived weaknesses. Caroline Kennedy is on Obama's VP search team, but is in no way being mentioned as a VP option.

ITs too bad Edwards isn't interested (he would have been my first choice for president), but realistically, whoever he picks has to be the whitest motherfucker on the planet and has to have a penis (Hillary isn't white enough) to balance out all the backward ass racist fucks in this country. Hillary simply cannot be the VP. She has too much fucking bagage and I am having a hard time even visualizing the amount of fucktards this would bring out of the woodwork to stop a "darky" from being president while at the same time preventing HRC (the most devisive entity in modern politics, even more than W) from getting elected. It would be a Neocon's wet fucking dream, which is why they are pushing for it. Not to mention there is a good fucking chance she would torpedo the campaign from within to give herself a shot at 2012. I can't even imagine why he would consider taking her as VP as (among other slurs) she has aluded to him being assasinated before the end of the race. Throw in a lot of bitching from Vince Foster conspiracy nuts, and you have a recipe for epic failure.
I think Hagel is probably the most sensible choice, unless he wants to create some sort of bi-partasin appearance with a Dixiecrat as his running mate. Everything he has indicated up to this point seems to point to someone relatively progressive and moderate, so I think we will probably get some blue collar white guy.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I posted those numbers earlier in a thread here, you can go search for it if you like. Bottom line is it's not radically different (especially women), and you can bet that racial minorities will come out in stronger numbers for Obama than they have in the past.

And? McCain was born in Panama. The Hispanics are practically his people. I don't think the hispanic population will automatically stop hating Obama because Hillary is on the ticket. They voted for Hillary over Obama because that was their only choice but might not vote for Obama over McCain.

About the only Hispanics that would possibly give a fuck that McCain was born in the canal zone would be actual Panamanians, and doubt any of them even care at this point. I don't think that a Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran or even a Cuban or Puerto Rican would give a rats ass that some ancient gringo was born in the canal zone. Also, if you didn't have your head up McCain's ass, you might know that Panamanians weren't exactly fond of our little Imperial outpost there, or the Americans that lived there.

Re pics:
Not even in the same ballpark.
To be fair to Dukakis, it's virtually impossible to look "cool" wearing a tie with an ill-fiting CVC while bobbing around in the loader's hatch of an Abrams if you haven't gotten used the ride. His handlers should have been on the stick and kept him away from that photo op.

It's right up there with the bowling stunt. You can tell the man has never been a rider. Seat's too low, tires flat, and what the hell is with that goofy ass fender? As for his choice of riding atire... well I live in an area chock full of mormons, so we can't fault him there.Aslanna wrote:I still don't think they are all that similar. Other than the fact that he is wearing protective headgear.

I was assuming that was part of a trailer rather than a fender.

Rump, once again you're talking out of your ass. Not all regular cyclists are the "riders" you're obviously envisioning. Many people ride bikes similar to this around the neighborhood, with their kids / families. Road cyclists and mountain bikers are a sizable portion of the cycling public, they're by no means all there is.
Yeah, looks like a trailer arm to me.Boogahz wrote:I was assuming that was part of a trailer rather than a fender.
