Speaking of ignorant... I'm tired of seeing people get insulted and called stupid because of spelling and grammatical errors (even if constant). That is the most ridiculous notion ever. I know people with fairly high IQ's (comparably) who can't spell for shit yet can blow your mind with what they know about different subjects. I can also give you a list of people (longer than Aranuil's list) on this very board that can write a whole essay without a single spelling error that I consider to be complete and utter morons. Some people are stronger than others in different areas - period. It doesn't make one person smarter than the other.

I have to add that a simple typo does not equate to a consistant spelling/grammatical error. Typos can happen to even the most literate of people. Pointing out typos in response to correctional information is silly and anyone doing so should be embarrassed. (That is my own personal little rant, by the way.)

To add to the original post I was taught that "a lot", regardless of spelling, is gramatically lazy and too colloquial for any form of formal writing. Obviously that doesn't apply to an informal setting such as this, and I add it strictly for informational purposes only.

I will say also that creating a filter for this and thus creating a needless point of contention seems silly as well.

I think that's the point. Aside from not being able to learn from their mistakes, it's ridiculously distracting for other readers.

And believe me, it does carry over into rl. When I was looking to hire a jr analyst at my previous job, the cover letters I had to read were downright sad. I'm sure they were just "lazy" as well.
