This thread is so 3-6 months ago. I'm not going to reiterate, for this new group of tards who think a plant can't be a drug, that Abe Lincoln was high all the time, and use logic that smoking everyday is ok cause "Well I could be murdering people *yuck yuck*!," my previous arguments which are logically and factually based. Most of you fools read no further than what http://www.pothead.com "informs" you. I've only met 2 potheads in my entire life (out of dozens) who could actually participate in an intellectual conversation.

Drug addiction is bad, but being a misinformed retard in public is worse.

I am a white sheep in a black sheep family. I don't smoke anything but I grew up around all of it. High Times magazine almost did an article about our house and the 7th Generation Joint they were building. It had everything. The plants got better treatment than we kids did. At night our house had a glow about it and during winter snow wouldn't stick to our roof due to all the heat coming from it.

It all ended one day when my brother and I threatened to call Action News to come do a story.

While I'm sure that George W. and Thomas J. weren't taking bong tokes and making tie-dye t-shirts when they decided to rebel against the British Crown, but you can't just discount the affect that one of their major agricultural products had. They made clothes, paper, and rope out of hemp, do you imagine that they just threw the buds away?

I used to smoke teh pot among other things, then I graduted from high school. I run across some of the old 'gang' now and then and well, take away the looking 50 years old at 30 and you would think they are all still in high school. I dont think they ever developed into adults. I could care less if you want to partake daily, in fact I encourage it, the world is tough enough competing with those that want to study and learn new aspects of the work place.

Tried it a couple times, didn't do anything for me good or bad really. But I've watched my brother descend into the pot lifestyle, and I personally hate what it did to him. Pot may not be very addictive, but the act of smoking it with your friends is. It's irrational of me, but I lose a little respect for someone when I find out they smoke pot semi-regularly.

Lucky for a lot of you guys, I can't possibly lose more respect for some of you!

I used to smoke more hash than pot (I liked the buzz better and the smell) but when I decided to go back for some post secondary education, I found that smoking some black on the weekends still meant I was suffering from a 3 day "burn out" on Monday/Tues when it was time to go back to class. I know it doesn't affect everyone like that, and some don't care if it does, but for me, that meant no more smokie.

I don't care if other people smoke pot/hash around me, or even in my house (within reason) but its something I just don't do anymore. Kinda sad though, when I go back to my home town and see guys I went to high scholl with, just like Trek described...

Jesus Christ, let's ignore all the studies and facts and slobber barely conceived personal anecdotes as reality. The truth is that Marijuana does not have an addictive component, you can no more be addicted to it than you can be to sunny days. If you are an addictive personality you can be addicted to item X (which can be twinkies, sugar, coca-cola, or even Everquest) but it does not mean the item in and of itself is addictive, it just means YOU lack willpower.

anyway, I had helped him get a job at my company where we have random drug testing, and there is no second chance, if you get caught you get fired.

Holy jumped-up Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Let's ignore reality and slobber barely conceived personal anecdotes as studies and facts. The truth is that Marijuana does have an addictive component, you can be addicted to it. If you are an addictive personality you can be even MORE addicted to it. It's easy to try to trivialize it by saying that it's all Person X's fault for lacking willpower, but when potheads are asked to stop, they can't. It happens every day in that little place we like to call The Real World:

Pothead: I can quit anytime.
Person who cares about pothead: So quit now.
Pothead: I don't want to...but I could if I wanted to!

there is a difference between psychological addiction, and physiological addictions.

heroin and cocaine physiologically addictive because of the manner in which electrical circuitry is modified (gain control specifically IIRC) by their use.

THC does not do this to my knowledge. so there is a difference between pot and drugs like nicotine.

that being said, anything can be "addictive". And certain personality types are of course more prone to that than others. But psychological addiction is an amorphous term, and there are components of it that involve the individual willingly walking down the road and making behavior choices.

I am sure marijuana maybe addictive to some people. So is alcohol and cigarettes. I still think marijuana is a hell of a lot safer than alcohol. I have met some pretty burned out potheads and some really nasty alcoholics. I have also met people from both sides that are just as normal as anyone else.

My point is that the government shouldn't be your fucking nanny and say what people can do to their own bodies. Serious drugs like coke and heroin should be banned though because those can actually kill you. I never heard of anyone dieing because of a weed overdose. You always hear about alcohol overdoses though.

Banned or not I won't smoke weed but I don't think that should preclude others from toking up.

smoked through high school and college, then joined the military and quit. When I got out, I started again but after moving back home I had no "connection" so I quit for a couple of years.

Been smoking pretty steady for the last 3-4 years, moderately. I say moderately meaning mainly on the weekends and sometimes when I come home from a stressful day at the office. A glass of wine and a toke tend to relieve a lot of stress.

As far as legalization goes, I'd love to see it but it won't happen. The vocal bible-thumpers would stop that dead. Plus, the government couldn't figure out how to tax it since everyone could pretty much grow their own.

I also believe that legalization would lead to exotic, very potent forms being grown as people experimented with cross breeding for higher THC content and that's probably not a good thing either.

I don't like to smoke myself into a stupor, but half a joint and a little buzz and I get into whatever work I'm doing like you wouldn't believe. It tends to kill the distractions and I focus on whatever task I set out to accomplish.

That said, I see people that smoke a lot and it just plain kills their ambition. They'd rather sit around stoned all the time and worry more about where that next oz is coming from than anything else.

good post kylere
you can run your car on hemp (fuck the need for oil if we have farms of it if it is legalized), you can make clothes, you can do a shitload of things with it, it is a wonderful recourse that we cannot use becouse of conservative bible belt motherfuckers who think pot is the root of all evil and talk about its pure evil while shooting down a few shots of vodka, and then talk about how much they hate hipocrytes...if you dont wanna smoke, then dont smoke, but dont go out of your way to make it so i cannot smoke
but fuck it, legalizing it would only let me smoke in public and it would prolly be 15 bucks cheaper 8)

I guess you could call me a pothead. I buy and smoke pot regularly. Over the past year or two, I've probably smoked between 3 or 5 times most weeks. I'm a college student, and my grades have been completely unaffected, although it does put me into a bit of a haze when I smoke regularly.

Anyway, about a month ago, I was having the exact argument with a friend that Shaerra is describing. "I can quit anytime I want," I said. "Prove it," said my friend.

So I did. I quit pot cold turkey. I haven't had a single problem with it. I don't get angry when friends mention it, I don't care when friends smoke in front of me, and I don't get tempted when people invite me to smoke. It has not been even the slightest challenge to my willpower. I'll probably start smoking again in another month or two, not because I feel a need for it, but because I enjoy it, and it doesn't seem to do any harm to me (besides my poor lungs).

Addictive? To me, absolutely not. To others, certainly.

I like to think that I'm capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation. Perhaps some people wouldn't think so, which is their prerogative. I don't claim that pot gives me any sort of ability to think deep thoughts, or gives me any deep intellectual awareness. Rather, I'm simply not an idiot. I can accept a drug for what it is, enjoy it when it's appropriate, and leave it out of my life the rest of the time. If that makes you lose respect for me, so be it. If that's what you think, then you have also lost my respect.
