The article I linked specifically states that there was a figure of 25k deaths last year directly related to the cold. Now if the article misrepresented that data, fine, however do you care to support that statement, Sherlock? Or am I just supposed to believe your numbers without any supporting info as usual?
Again, what exactly would the point be you're getting at?
Differences in baseline mortality, age structure, and influenza epidemics confound comparisons of cold-related increases in mortality between regions with different climates.

That 25k number that you are stuck on includes things like cardiac arrests, respiratory illness, etc. which show up more in cold weather than warm.

We also stock up on canned foods and water during hurricane season. I wouldn't be surprised if not too many houses in Minnetonka weren't equipped with such and wouldn't be stupid enough to question why not. In South Florida these last 8 days or s,o the weather has been ridiculously cold (for us) - in the 30's and shit and we're very ill-equipped for it. We're ill-equipped because the weather doesn't tend to drop lower than in the 50's so we're not ready to ski-suit up. My apartment doesn't even have a heater so I've been damn-near hypothermic. I'm pretty sure I'm going to die and they'll find my frozen carcass in fetal position with tears having frozen on my face. It pains me to see some Canadian motherfuckers walking around in jeans and t-shirts like it's a lovely, balmy summer day.
You would be very much incorrect to make that assumption.

I was responding to the canned foods/water
As far as the hurricane shutters go, unlike cold in the UK, hurricanes couldn't possibly happen in MN unless the continent split apart

I had to take the lining out of my coat.. was too hot!
Been a really gimp winter so far.
My lawn was geen until the end of December and we haven't gotten a decent snowfall yet.

We haven't been that lucky. Tons of snow and for a lot of weeks there it didn't get above 0. It's sad how you start to get used to -15.
