Maybe you can link this poll over there so liberals can educate themselves isntead of relying on biased media coverage next election.

http://www.howobamagotelected.com/
Zogby Poll

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

71.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)
Seriously? 87% thought Tina Fey really was Sarah Palin?

You'll seriously believe anything you're told, won't you? The "How Obama Got Elected" bullshit Zogby poll has been thoroughly discredited for its leading, pushpoll-esque questions, limited and specifically targeted sample and fatally flawed interpretation/misrepresentation by John Ziegler, the hack behind the website / crockumentary. Oh yeah, he's truly a reliable source! Willfully ignorant dolts like you really do make it clear how a pathetic ticket like McCain/Palin could manage ~46% of the popular vote.

Assclown.

Are you actually disputing the results of the poll, or are you saying it was unfair? Do you think it is nto a sad state of affairs in the media when they hit up facts about someone's wardrobe prices over who actually controls the lawmaking bodies of the US? Or parody being believed as fact?

who actually controls the lawmaking bodies of the US?
The wording of the question was very ambiguous...

Before this past election, which political party controlled both houses of congress?
Before what past election?
The presidential election or the general elections in 2006?
It could have been more concisely worded, asking who currently controls both houses of congress.

No, I'm sure the questions were asked and the answers were given, so I don't dispute the results.

I dispute the notion that the poll has any meaning whatsoever or is worth anybody's time discussing or thinking about.

If you want explanations for why the answers came out they did, feel free to read the article I linked you, or mosey over to fivethirtyeight or any of the multitude of other places where the reasons why this poll is meaningless have been discussed and explained.

Re: the best new liberal blog on the internet (v2.0)

I think this article further disproves the "How Obama Got Elected" theory.
How about a few civics questions? Name the three branches of government. If you answered the executive, legislative and judicial, you are more informed than 50 percent of Americans. The Delaware-based Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) recently released the results of their national survey titled "Our Fading Heritage: Americans Fail a Basic Test on Their History and Institutions." The survey questions were not rocket science.

Only 21 percent of survey respondents knew that the phrase "government of the people, by the people, for the people." comes from President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Almost 40 percent incorrectly believe the Constitution gives the president the power to declare war. Only 27 percent know the Bill of Rights expressly prohibits establishing an official religion for the United States. Remarkably, close to 25 percent of Americans believe that Congress shares its foreign policy powers with the United Nations.

Among the total of 33 questions asked, others included: "Who is the commander in chief of the U S. military?” "Name two countries that were our enemies during World War II." "Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the federal government. What is one power of the federal government?" Of the 2,508 nationwide samples of Americans taking ISI's civic literacy test, 71 percent failed; the average score on the test was 49 percent.

ISI findings about cultural illiteracy and academic incompetence are nothing new. A 1990 Gallup survey for the National Endowment of the Humanities, given to a representative sample of 700 college seniors, found that 25 percent did not know that Columbus landed in the Western Hemisphere before the year 1500; 42 percent could not place the Civil War in the correct half-century; and 31 percent thought Reconstruction came after World War II.

In 1993, a Department of Education survey found that among college graduates 50 percent of whites and more than 80 percent of blacks couldn't state in writing the argument made in a newspaper column; 56 percent could not calculate the right tip; 57 percent could not figure out how much change they should get back after putting down $3.00 to pay for a 60-cent bowl of soup and a $1.95 sandwich, and over 90 percent could not use a calculator to find the cost of carpeting a room. But not to worry. A 1999 survey taken by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni of seniors at the nation's top 55 liberal-arts colleges and universities found that 98 percent could identify rap artist Snoop Dogg and Beavis and Butt-Head, but only 34 percent knew George Washington was the general at the battle of Yorktown.

With limited thinking abilities and knowledge of our heritage, we Americans set ourselves up as easy prey for charlatans, hustlers and quacks. If we don't know the constitutional limits placed on Congress and the White House, politicians can do just about anything they wish to control our lives, from deciding what kind of light bulbs we can use to whether the government can take over our health care system or bailout failing businesses. We just think Congress can do anything upon which they can get a majority vote.

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute has one finding that I find both a bit perplexing but encouraging. Roughly 70 percent of Americans, even those who failed the test, agreed that our history, culture and institutions are important and should be taught to our college students. They might even agree with Thomas Jefferson who warned, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

So are you going to cover a Democratic Governer selling a senate seat or only focus on scummy Republicans?

As I said before, both parties can say whatever they about helping their constituents like but ultimately most of them are there for themselves. What I do find interesting about the articles I have read is that several of them have failed to mention his political affiliation. I haven't watched Fox News, I am sure they are hyping that, but it just seems funny that when the Republican senator got caught in the bathroom, they plastered the word Republican all over.

Edit - I am starting to see the Democrat word showing up now. I guess the story was just breaking and they were getting word out quick and are now fleshing the story out. I am glad to see that they are pointing out that both parties have scumbags in them.

CNN: Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested

MSNBC: Police officers stand guard outside Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's Chicago home on Tuesday after the Democratic politician was arrested by federal authorities.

Reuters: Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on Tuesday on corruption charges, including that he tried to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by fellow Democrat and President-elect Barack Obama.

Associated Press: A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps

1. I pointed out in the edit that they had added the Democrat verbiage

2. It was a question, not a call out. Reading it, I can see where you would see it the other way though. It is hard to read inflection into a post.

Lets say I did call them out though, I would not expect them to write it the same day, it would be a question of would they cover it in the future. I know I am on pain meds, but in general, I am smart enough to know this was a blog, not a news source.

All that retarded ass blog reinforces to me is that there is a clear problem with the party system where people will blindly follow whatever party they have chosen to align themselves with. The entire political machine of the US needs to be revamped and viable parties added to the debates. There also needs to be a massive limitation put on the campaign funding of candidates to allow the other parties a chance at gaining a foothold.

I didn't even know about this story until a couple of hours ago. Sueven made a post about it. I've been having some real life issues lately which have kept me out of the current events arena for a couple of weeks. Today I spent the day riding my motorcycle down to where my car was broken down on the side of the street and waiting for a tow truck from the salvage to come get it. The axle broke and the entire car collapsed to the ground at a red light yesterday. Before this I had an issue with my bike and two 60 hour work weeks. I personally think these excuses are pretty fucking lame, but they are legitimate. Luckily, my blog is not a career but a hobby. It's not that I don't have opinions or ideas to write about, I've just got too much on my mind to research and articulate them as thoroughly as a worthy blog entry requires. Nate picked up my slack for the very few readers we actually have for now. Once things settle down a bit in my real life, I'll be back to posting two or three entries a week consistently. But please don't let it deter you from checking it every now and then. Thanks.

Xyun,

Not that it matters, but I thought you wrote a nice balanced blog about the scandal. The only comment I would question is the line about a possible Republican replacement. I understand you don't like the Republicans, but I would rather have a person in office who truely wants to serve his country. If that person Democratic, Republican, Indepentent or Green Party, I could care less. There is entirely too much focus lately on holding the party line and the more people move away from that the better we all will be.

So when is this glorious blog going to address Valeria Jarrett's assertations that Obama is going to "rule from day one"? Or the fact that Jarrett is involved in real estate scandals in Chicago along with Antoin Rezko? Pretty good choice as a senior advisor I would think....makes a nice pairing with the other real estate bitch that he appoionted Secretary of State. I guess Sueven can go back and revisit his lovely post about all those great cabinet choices now.

Out of curiousity: do you ever stop and wonder when some of the conservative blogs you obviously get some of your information from are going to post more liberally-slanted bits of "news" or is that reserved for the people who write for Not You?

edit: that's not to say that they haven't, shouldn't or won't post blogs that aren't democrat/obama friendly - just that I find you questioning them a tad bit hypocritical and a smidgen ridiculous.

Kilmoll: You may notice that it's not an all-encompassing blog. If you plan to find commentary on every political story there, this will be only the first of many disappointments.

Also, fyi, "senior advisor" is not a cabinet position.

Valerie Jarrett was born in Iran, which makes her Obama's bestest adviser in my book.

I sure would not expect some nutjob reporter throwing a shoe to be a bigger headline than the president-elect's advisor's scandals and fauz pas.

Well it is a bigger headline. Much bigger. Maybe there's no substance or content, but the sheer magnitude of its symbolism as well as the reaction throughout the world transcends the mundane sleazy politics that you and Republicans prefer.

Revamped the site. Added a ton of stuff and the latest entry is the Stephen Colbert leg wrestling match. Take a look, let me know what you think. Is it too much?
