Family of 7, with a 5 seater car. The police were announcing that they'd arrest everyone violating the traffic laws. So the family stayed behind because they felt that hurricane Katrina was less dangerous than the police. There are over 60,000 people in that city who do not own cars. Buses, trains and planes were pulled out of New Orleans on Saturday. To walk far enough that you can get to another town means walking about 50 miles along bridges to get out of New Orleans, where the police would arrest you and send you back to NOLA. For most people, a walk of 50 miles takes 3 days. Walking in 90+ degree heat, you need to carry about 2 gallons of water per person per day. At 8 pounds per gallon. So you would have had to start walking before the hurricane crossed Florida, when it was a category 1 or 2 storm, and before any projections showed it was going towards New Orleans. To walk out of New Orleans would have required a crystal ball to predict the future better than NOAA can do.

Or that town next to New Orleans, Gretna, where the police (and "special deputies") stood on the bridge with guns and shot at people trying to evacuate from NOLA. Or the police who said they'd arrest anyone trying to evacuate NOLA with overloaded cars. Other bridges out of NOLA were knocked down in the storm, or you had to swim to get to them.
You are not allowed to go to Gretna, Louisiana, from New Orleans, Louisiana. Over there, there's hope. Over there, there's electricity. Over there, there is food and water. But you cannot go from here to there. The government will not allow you to do it.

Psychopaths can't show sympathy for other's pain. They are incapable of feeling that. Whether they torture animals or are serial killers, they just can't show any sympathy, because they cannot feel it.
The good news is -- and it's hard for some to see it now -- that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- he's lost his entire house -- there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch. (Laughter.)
Souce This the same total lack of sympathy, or ability to care about other's pain. The President is joking that Lott, a rich white man, who got in trouble for publically affirming that Stromm Thurmond, an unrepentant segregationist, should have been President, is going to have his personal home rebuilt. Nothing about the hundreds of thousands of other homes destroyed in Louisiana. But then bush himself is a rapturist of the Left Behind variety, so to him, shooting looters is too good for them. But he'll be happy to sit on Trent Lott's new porch to watch the darkies working in the fields. Picking cotton I suppose.

why aren't you being fucking banned again for this, you race baiting piece of shit?
Who made this about race? I think you just did. I lived in Denver for 2 years. There are just as many black folk there as in New Orleans, so I'm not sure where you think you are goign here. I guess you are showing your ignorance by thinking Denver is white. It's really sad when people prejudge like that.
According to the US Census Bureau

New Orleans
Population, 2000 484,674
Black or African American persons, percent, 2000 (a) 67.3%
= 326,186

Denver
Population, 2005 estimate 557,917
Black persons, percent, 2005 (a) 10.6% 4.1%
= 59,139

Jeeze Stragi. Are you going to let a few black people in your city this decade?

White persons, percent, 2000 (a) (State) 75.5%

No wonder it took Arizona a few years to get the MLK Holiday passed.

George Washington in 1986, my freshman year. It was a crip school. Manuel was a blood school. Horrible stuff. I saw a dude get shot via drive by as we were boarding our buses after school one day. He was 10 feet away. Bad bad stuff.

There were no Crips battling Bloods in Pennsylvania in 1986.
BLOODS/UNITED BLOOD NATION/EAST COAST BLOOD NATION
The Pirus first evolved in Los Angeles during the 1970s as a black street gang which formed for self-protection from the Crips gangs which predominated in Los Angeles during this era. The Pirus were later known as the Bloods, because they claimed the color red. Blood gangs began to spread across the United States during the 1980s, and were frequently portrayed in music, movies, and other media formats.

The United Blood Nation, simply called the Bloods, formed in 1993 within the New York City jail system on Riker's island. Prior to the formation of the Bloods, the Latin Kings were the most prevalent and organized gang in the NYC jail system. The Latin Kings and the Netas were large Hispanic gangs, who began targeting African American inmates with violence. The African American inmates, organized by some of the more violent and charismatic inmates, formed a protection group which they called the United Blood Nation (UBN). UBN emulated the Bloods street gangs in Los Angeles. Several of the leaders of UBN then formed eight Blood sets to recruit in their neighborhoods across New York City. By the mid 1990s, thousands of members of Bloods street gangs were establishing themselves as a force among gangs and were continuing steady recruitment. At this time, the Bloods were more violent than other gangs, but much less organized. A common ritual among these gangs involved shedding blood, through stabbings or slashings, as an initiation ritual. By the year 2000, the Bloods have become the most violent gang on the East Coast.

CRIPS
The Crips gangs originally formed in East Los Angeles during the 1960s and 1970s. By the mid 1980s, offshoot Crip gangs could be found in most major cities around the U.S. During the 1980s, several Crip and Blood gangs developed in Belize (Central America). Gang-affiliated youth from this country immigrated to the United States during the late 1980s, especially into East Coast states like New York, New Jersey, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. In 1989, Belizian immigrants in New York City formed the Harlem Mafia Crips in Harlem, as well as several other Crip sets such as the Rolling 30s Crips, 92 Hoover Crips, and Rolling 60s Crips. During the late 1990s, Crip gangs were well-established in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania, and other East Coast areas.

I still don't understand what the observations of a high school freshman 20 years ago have to do with the demographics of Denver today. I live 5 miles from George Washington High School and about 2 from Manuel. My neighborhood (Park Hill) is predominately white. In fact, we have one black person on our entire block. Until recently, I rode the RTD bus downtown for work, and never had an incident. There are more hispanics in Denver than there are blacks, but how would I know. I just live here.

Nods. LIke I said, my perception of the populace of Denver came from that part of my life. I remember now that the reason GW was 95% black was because of the mandatory busing. I believe that started in 1986 or maybe a year before. I don't know if they still do that or not. It wasn't very popular amongst the white folk back then, that's for sure. I ended up being transferred to a catholic school when my life was threatened by a gang members girlfriend after she stole my lunch and I backhanded her. Ahh the memories.
