I messed with the builder a little bit last night (making walls and stuff), and I like the interface for that. I haven't really looked at how clothing etc. would be made. Either Second Life is full of Goths, or that's all that Winnow looks for, hehe. I did a little browsing around this morning before work, and found some other clothing stores, etc. I even got some free bling from one mall, but the "bling" effect was blinding. I also picked up some bloody bunny costume to scare the goth kitty with

There's a way to direct link to a specific game location (link loads the game and takes you there) from a message. I need to research how to do that and then will start linking locations here.Kwonryu DragonFist wrote:Name of Mall? There's lots of oriental themed skins and clothes Kwon. My first suit was from a Mandarin outfit store. Have you used the ALL button on the search window and looked for "martial arts" or "Bruce Lee"?

Not much in way of pictures tonight! I showed Cid around a bit and he rented the apartment next to mine. There's a couple left! The Sims neighbor just moved out as well because her "daddy" was shooting weapons in the apartment and you're not supposed to do that!
Sims peeps are a little creepy. She had a dad and grandad and an extended family that was a little unsettling when I could see the text of their discussions trying to resolve family issues. Sheesh! Leave the family issues to RL!
I played around with the Apple Martini animations and decided to turn my entire balcony into a hottub:

Tried out a scripted dungeon device and things didn't turn out well for me!

Kwon asked about karate moves...here's what I found at one of the freebie stores:

I spent most of the night actually digging through the offerings at the freebie stores...it only confirmed that you don't need to spend anything if you don't want to and still have fun. Here's some of the stuff I grabbed. Each folder or box of stuff is $1L so the entirety of stuff you see would amount to less than 10 cents and you are given about the equivalent of one dollar (250L) for free and another 50 each week for free. Chump Change!

Here are direct links to two freebie places. The first one, Yadni's is a little better IMO..more stuff and you don't have to unpack it after buying it although it's not hard to unpack a box once you've done it (be sure to make a folder to drag the contents into when unpacking or it will get messy fast in your inventory).
Close the map after it loads and you're there! The little square boxes along the walls are what you're looking for:

Any good guides for beginners around? Was looking around on the 2nd life page, and found downloadable skins and clothes, but no info on where to put it, and no info on getting started.

this thread is a good start, seriously. in game there are a ton of people willing to help. just about anyone you talk to. best advice i can give is stay away from the casino games...
slingo is a safe bet for money making games or so i've heard. you don't pay unless you win or something like that. haven't tried it out yet though.

I'll have to check out some of those shops this evening. I was in a little while yesterday, and found a meditation pad paying L$5 per 10 minutes which is much better than the L$1 / 6 minute chairs I had run across before.
I looked through the forums and I never saw any kind of script for keeping yourself active in-game. There was one person on a L$1 chair that had racked up over L$70 so it has to be out there somewhere. I am willing to bet that the official forums are not a good place to find it.

IM me in game Hesten. I won't be on for another 5 hours or so though.Hesten wrote:Hmmm, apartment 9 is still free, but need some cash, any good tip on where to go to make money?
#4 will be opening up in a few days as well. Probably Friday or Saturday.
Remember, these Apts go for 300/week. If you decide to maintain residence, it's money making time. It's no big deal if you leave after a week or two though. You just pick up all of your belongings and place them in your inventory and can put them in the next place or just keep them on your person. As far as I can tell, your inventory is limitless.

Is there a ghetto somewhere with cheaper apts?

Yep, 50/week...if you load the first page of this thread, about 3/4 of the way down, I took picture and suggested one of the nicer places available for cheap. 50 first week with two or three free weeks thrown if from the managment for brand new players) so it's like $50 total for the first 3-4 weeks.masteen wrote:Is there a ghetto somewhere with cheaper apts?
You get 500/week with the 9.95/month account so the nicer Apt would be doable but on the freebie budget, you'd be slumming it for sure. I saw some creative interior designs from people in the 50/week apts as well. I just liked that this island is maintained by one person and he keeps it clean of ugly buildings and signs. And that the apartments are well designed.... RAMPS>STAIRS in this game as your Avatar has a hard time with stairs...plus there's room in these apt to fly up the second floor with the open space by the ramp. (can always use free teleport gizmos to get from level to level if needed as well)
Only played around for little over an hour, but the people in this game seems very friendly and inclined to talk, unlike in EQ.
And damn you can find some ugly stuff for sale.
Havent played around with the builder yet, just looked around, but did manage to find some money trees (with no cash on them), and a place that payed 2L$ every 5 min you sat there. So guess to make cash, rig up an old comp, load up SL and sit while you watch a movie

If you've only played for an hour, you should still be on help island not finding money trees and ugly clothes! So far, I've found that newbie peeps aren't taking the time to learn the controls before venturing into the main world. Spending some time on the tutorial/help island is useful. At lease get the camera controls down to make life a lot easier.Hesten wrote:Only played around for little over an hour, but the people in this game seems very friendly and inclined to talk, unlike in EQ.

The nice clothes/skins aren't free but if you search around, you can find decent stiff for pretty cheap and even some nice free outfits at individual stores (not the freebie zones) Poses, animations, furniture, gizmos, etc etc are good freebie items. The clothes are going to be a little generic there.
It's too late now! You can't go back to newbie island after you leave. You didn't read my posts!Hesten wrote:Hehe, i guess ill take a trip back to newbie island then. Just ran past the tuturial fast, never explored the island.
Probably missed it but one of my initial posts on this thread went over my first experiences and stressed that you should spend a good amount of time on the tutorial and help island before heading to the main island so you have a grasp on things. It's not that difficult but with a tutorial and help island there for you, it's worth using them to save a lot of questions later and not be frustrated with camera controls, etc.
The building part I didn't read all the way through though.
Camera controls...just be sure to use the TARGET ALT ZOOM and CTRL keys to make things easier.
Did you land on my balcony? I put splash sound script in there. I don't know the range on it. Hope the entire complex doesn't hear people sloshing around my hottub!cid wrote:winnow your martini glass looked better
I've got bigger plans for the balcony!
Another nice thing about the Serpent Island is that there's lots of open space around the area to try out vehicles etc.
And Cliquè D'Veeshan is born!

Can you guess which one Kwon is?

The description said it was a couch!

Anyone that wants to join the group (you can be in up to 15 groups) just send me an IM in game whether I'm offline or on and I'll add you.

And Sarlen Goff is born. After walking around a while a few things stood out to me.
1. The load time for just about any new area I explore is between 4 to 6 min.
2. The lag after everything loads is crazy bad, 2 to 4 seconds between keyboard commands to seeing it happen on screen. Which makes walking or flying very hard to do.
3. Clipping is non exsistant. I have been stuck in the world objects a few dozen times in a few hours of play.
One of the big things I do like is the streaming audio in some of the clubs I visited, the quality was very high.
Over all the lag issues and load times will most likely keep me from playing this game much but I like the idea's behind it.

The load times and initial lag in zones is understandable with the world containing all unique items. Each new zone has a ton of new things to download and decompress. Setting your HD cache to 1GB will greatly reduce the reload times for zones you've already visited. For new zones, my load times can be 1-2 mins for full download but not 4-6 mins. The new patch is also working on loading items you are focused on and new objects like avatars first to help with initial entry into a zone.
I've been stuck a couple times in 2 weeks. It's been easy to get unstuck though with teleporting always available. Sit/Standup/"Go to" are also ways to unstick yourself.
As for music. Yes, the sound quality is excellent and some places like Transylvania have live in-game DJs some of the time. The Transylvania in particular plays great live music.
The past two days my Avatar has been jumping around as if I've got tourette's syndrome. It happened right after I loaded up on a ton of free stuff so it may be related to having thousands of items in my inventory. I need to check the forums as noone else seems to be having the problem.
With all the unique textures and avatars, some extra load times over stagnant, less unique zones and avatars in other MMORPGs has to be accepted as one of the consequences.
512 DSL connection. With just this game running I cap out my connection. No one else on my network can use the internet while I play it =(Winnow wrote:Are you on a dial up?sarlen wrote:And Sarlen Goff is born. After walking around a while a few things stood out to me.

Grrrrrrrrr!
My issues with my avatar jumping around the screen was resloved with a reboot. Something was running in the background causing all sorts of havok with my packet stream. What a pisser. Irritating 2 days. I don't think it was SL related as I was only one with issue. It's smooth as butter now! Carry on!

Here's a few more before this thread hits the next page.
Tonight I went shopping for some new duds while Cid went dancing...and dancing...and dancing...he must of been out there for 3 or more hours!
Go Cid! Go Cid!
Grabbed some new hair, boots, non jeans and stuff so I didn't look like Barbie's husband Ken.

Ah, here we go! Ready to boogie! The Union Jack outfit for teh win!
Cid is a dance-a-holic! He said he's geting a new outfit tomorrow...too busy gathering Cliquè D'Veeshan groupies!

Turn around Cid!
I played around with the gestures and assigned a few keys for dance moves and one that makes me do a backflip while I make the sound, "Weeee" like a chipmunk.
Cheerleaders must be present at all times.

The Cheerleader made a quick change into a future girl outfit (and grew about half a foot). You can switch clothes and body shape on the fly (they appear fuzzy and then sharpen as the textures download)

Hello Kitty!

Hehe, i just been busy making a little cash, still mainly play EQ, and this game is VERY CPU demanding, so cant run both at the same time, so when i been on the last few days, i mainly been using dance pads or money chairs.
Btw, good way to make a little cash, when you go to bed/work/whatever where you wont play, head to a dance pad/chair and sit, then just leave. The game kick you after i think its 30+ min, but you still get paid.
I wake up like 4+ times a night due to some medical problems ATM, and when im up getting some drink anyway, i might as well just log back in (FAST to login, not like in EQ), and use the chair/pad again, then go to sleep again, made almost 100$ in a 2 days that way.
Still working on finding free stuff, found some poses in Angry Ant just before i went to bed last night, so didnt get to test it.
Played around with the 3d editor a little, managed to make a rug
, so now my apartment got a few items in it
Gotta get one of you to show me how to use poses and find good stores.
Btw, how do you make links for others? Tried to send SPang some links the other day, but with no luck.
