Aw man, the Oceans 11 remake was pretty cool, but the sequel was simply the same people "Looking Cool". Here is a good review...

http://www.bigempire.com/filthy/oceanstwelve.html
Totally agree. As long as you liked the first one. :P

For the record, Akaran... The Sixth Sense was never mentioned in this thread as a film you wouldn't like. It was merely used as an example of a 'thriller'.

Sirensa, the point of this thread is not to say that non-thinking movies are bad. But rather to say that you shouldn't be limited to only watching those types of movies.

I know, but what's it matter? It's entertainment, and as free time is a valuable commodity, it should be spent watching things you like, not watching what other people tell you will make you a better person for engaging the noggin.

It's like the people who think a person isn't as intelligent or cultured if they prefer to read popular fiction over "literature".

Edit - Picking on someone for their opinion on a form of entertainment seems shallow :D

Oceans 1* were both crap, a bunch of very talented people spending buttloads of cash and somehow completely failing to entertain.

Le Pact des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolves) - good movie. I liked pretty much every movie listed here, except Life Aquatic. I still want my 2 hours of life back from that piece of trash.

I really enjoyed Pi, Cube, Memento and an older movie called Heart of Midnight with Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Also add

Army of Darkness
Fear of a Black hat - If you grew up during the era of 80's rap this is the movie to watch. It is a Spinal Tap for Rap.

Almost forgot the whole Best of Show, Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman series.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. Fear of a Black Hat is fucking pure win.

"Here you go, my European brother."

The Cube is also damn good, especially with their use of basically one main set.

Oh, as far as Army of Darkness... the rumor mill is a'runnin that Raimi wants to make a 4th film in the Evil Dead series....probably just a rumor since he is entrenched in the Spiderman thing...

Compiling a list of movies mentioned in this thread that I find applicable to the anti-Akaran type movies...

Rushmore (noel)
Bottlerocket (noel)
Punch Drunk Love (noel)
Magnolia (noel)
Adaptation (Dregor)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Dregor)
The Life Aquatic (Dregor)
Lost in Translation (Dregor)
The Virgin Suicides (Dregor)
American Psycho (Fash)
Being John Malkovich (Fash)
Garden State (me)
Road to Perdition (me)
Unbreakable (me)
The Green Mile (me)
21 Grams (Burke)
Pi (Burke)
Mystic River (Me)
Manchurian Candidate (Chidaro)
The Terminal (Chidaro)
Hard Eight (Syenye)
Brotherhood of the Wolf (archeiron)
Shawshank Redemption (archeiron) <-- don't know how anyone can not like this one
Requiem for a Dream (Dregor)
Donnie Darko (Lynks)
Magnolia (Lynks)
Six Degrees of Separation (Lynks)
A Clockwork Orange (Lynks)
Dr. Strangelove (Xatrei)
Harold and Maude (me)
The Rules of Attraction (me)

These are just the movies that I had seen that I agree with... and Akaran if you don't like The Big Lebowski, may god help you. I didn't put that on the list cause I wasn't sure. That movie is the pinnacle of cinema as we know it.

Magnolia is about the most overrated film of the last 10 years. Loads of thesping going on (ooh, worthy!) yet I found it totally unengaging and pretty pointless.

Being John Malkovich is the biggest pile of steaming cinematic shit ever. Watching this movie is a total waste of life.

Edit: Clockwork Orange sucks balls too. But so did the book so what chance did it have?

Edit also: Add The City Of Lost Children to the list. And Brazil. And 12 Moneys.

What was the name of that movie where Depp was forced to assassinate the governor by Walken? I remember it was pretty nifty how it was filmed in one long take which is pretty damn impressive in this day and age.

edit: Thanks. That was a great movie as well.

Kubrik's best film is Full Metal Jacket. No question, no discussion, NO FUCKING DEBATE.

Honest to all, not trolling. I'd rather do that in the beer thread.
I DID enjoy FMJ and I DO enjoy Dana Carvey, he is a fairly funny man (the movie was stupid, the jokes were lame, but it was an hour and a half's worth of mindless entertainment.)

You lost any credibility you had with me. That movie was possibly the worst movie I have ever had to sit through (damn kids) and I had to watch the Princess Diaries 2 so that is saying a lot.

World According to Garp
Being There
Creator

Jesus Christ, how can anyone say they liked master of disguise even in jest? But I can name ten movies that are worse than that one that don't even have Dana Carvy in them and were actually mainstream releases:

Water World
Ishtar
Cat Woman
Batman and Robin
Ghost Dad
Kangaroo Jack
Dumb and Dumberer
Congo
Phantom Menace
Daredevil

You should write your autobiography now. Have that be the title, make the book a bunch of blank pages so you don't have to muddle your brain with "words" and "thoughts", and it would be as accurate as possible.

The Master of the Disguise portrayed all that is wrong in the world, and perhaps the universe. The fact that someone would write the script, find money to create the film, and then have actors and workers on the set, is astonishing. No one could write a worse film, perhaps Cabin Boy only rivals it in being one of the worst created films of all time. Maybe even Santa with Muscles or perhpas Santa Defeats the Martians could be better. But do NOT tell me that it was hilarious.

Though I don't think Akaran wouldn't enjoy these. Not all enjoyable movies are meant to make you think. I liked a lot of movies that Akaran listed as well as those listed by others. Then again I actually liked Battlefield Earth.

It's Pat was another crappy SNL sketch made into a crappy movie.
The only redeeming feature of that movie was the first theatrical appearance of Ween.

Well not really 'theatrical' as 'It's Pat' was released straight to video.

Not so
Theatrical Release Date: August 26, 1994
http://www.markcarey.com/shopping/p/B00008L3TW
Arguably the least successful of the many feature film spin-offs of Saturday Night Live television sketch characters, this comedy barely won a quick theatrical release.
http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/ ... m=0&itm=10

Don't argue with me about Ween.

I thought Dumb and Dumber - the first - had a several funny moments. Definitely nowhere on my favorite movies list, but I (regrettably) took the time to watch the sequel on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax, whatever it was, and I can safely say there was not a single funny moment, at all.
