Thanks dude! That means a lot coming from some worthless douchebag that slings a insult here and there and almost never contributes a goddamn thing to the boards (including a explanation for this comment). You are almost as bad as nick.Siji wrote:Funk, you've replaced Midnyte as the stupidest most ignorant fucking person on this board.

If you're unwilling to support any black person who, although not personally 'going about things in a Jesse Jackson fashion,' does have a friend or an inspiration who does 'go about things in a Jesse Jackson fashion,' I fear you may be excluding just about every black person who actually exists.
I know that I've been inspired by many people, from Che Guevara to Ghengis Khan to George W. Bush, who I find awful and offensive in various ways. The fact that I find them interesting and inspirational, in some ways, does not mean that I'm incapable of severing that which I find admirable from that which I find abhorrent.
If I required that political candidates, to earn my support, be disassociated with anybody whose views are damaging, offensive, or stupid, I wouldn't have a single candidate to support.

Funk, I'm not with you on this one... I think you are being somewhat ignorant and closed-minded... things you've attacked others for. Rev. Wright is not running for President, and I find it hard to believe you've never associated with someone who has offensive beliefs. Whether you do or do not support Obama, (I'm mostly on the fence, but considering the competition, he's the guy for the democrat side) I find it hard to believe anyone can scoff at this speech, or completely write off Barack over one issue.
I have never before heard such an eloquent explanation for racial division, inclusive to both sides, how it developed, and how it remains. Based on that, one can understand where these comments come from, and that they do not define the whole person, nor should they cause everyone to disavow them. I would put money on every one of us having at least as many offensive 10 second sound bites as Rev. Wright.

Funk doesn't support Obama for other reasons, too. None of which are very relevant to running a country.

You have every right to think that. Everyone has issues that are important to them, this one is important to me and is enough in and of itself to make me not want to give the guy a second chance. I am angry and stubborn enough that I can write someone off over one issue, whether that's something you can believe or not. I actually did like a lot of the speech but the facts and tidbits I have pointed out bother me enough to negate anything good about it for me.

He doesn't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem, doesn't recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and his wife was recently proud to be an American for the first time, am I right?
Had the exact opposite happened, how would that make him a better candidate for president?
How often do you recite the Pledge? Personally, I haven't recited the Pledge since elementary school, that I can recall.

Yes, all those things matter to me. See, I don't hate my country and think our leaders are doing everything all wrong, and have some delusion that I have any clue how to do things better than them like so many people here do. Therefore, these displays of patriotism and such are not all that matters, but they are important to me.Spang wrote:He doesn't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem, doesn't recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and his wife was recently proud to be an American for the first time, am I right?

Not once did I say he should say the pledge at home at night before he goes to bed, but when in a public situation where that is the thing you do just because, whether he likes it or not - I will accept no reason or broken logic he has for not doing so.

He aught to just tell the truth about the whole thing. Would make every thing so much easier to just say "My wife made me do it."
I mean he is a rich white kid, raised as such. I'm sure it was his wifes idea to goto such a racially biased church in the first place. In wich case, I could whole heartedly believe when he says "I dont agree with his statements" because my wife made me do a bunch of shit I didnt believe in.
Nick, america the laughing stock, the country so good, people break into it, including an awful lot of irish! You should right us a song.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I've been to about 20 NBA games this year. Well over 10,000 people attend each one. The national anthem is played every time. When this "omg Obama doesn't put his hand on the heart during the national anthem" meme started, I began to pay attention.
Practically fucking nobody puts their hand on their heart for the national anthem. Even fewer actually turn to face the flag. I don't for a second think that these people think any less of their country because of their chosen etiquette during the anthem. I also don't believe that Obama thinks any less of the country by his behavior. If I thought that his behavior demonstrated that he hated America, sure, I'd have a problem with it. But I absolutely do not believe that. Do you?
Can anyone source this 'Obama refuses to recite the pledge' claim? I find it pretty hard to believe that he refuses to recite it when appropriate as a matter of principle.
Also, while I disagree with some of Midnyte's approach to this issue, I want to say 'right on' to the fact that he's approaching it in a nuanced, open-minded way.

If it became such a routine, I could understand no longer taking the moment of silence every time, with your hand on your heart and your eyes on the flag.
It isn't common for me.. I went to a hockey game recently, and I did it.. I also glanced around and saw less than half of the crowd was participating, but they went there to watch a hockey game, not a patriotism convention.
It certainly doesn't hurt to take a moment to reflect on the greatness of our nation and all the wonderful things we have because of it... I imagine that in politics, this happens more than enough.

remember everyone, funk is desperate to impress you and to show you what a real man he is. his original statements and statements made thereafter both by him and in response to him are irrelevant. the only thing that matters is that he ferociously and unwaveringly attacked all of the people who responded negatively. if he was wrong, he would be a pussy- so how can you be wrong if you are badass with street cred?
just something to keep in mind every time you read a post of his and think it would be a good idea to reply.

Well sure, that doesn't hurt.Mid wrote:Oh, please. You only attribute this "open-minded" medal of honor to me because I slightly agree with you.
But I think the more relevant fact is that you went from this:
To this:Mid wrote:Not sure how he can lie his way out of this. He spends 17-20 years at this church, soaking in this separatism and white hatred, calling Rev. Wright his spritiual mentor and an important influence in his life, a personal friend.........and now all of the sudden we are to believe he doesn't agree with anything he has said, his mind set, his basic belief structure, his hatred for America?
I thought Barack was different than the normal politicians. He was going to bring change. He was an outsider. LOL
He's a liar like the rest of them. He'll say anything to stay alive in the race. Didn't he give a speech recently after a primary win where he talked about how there is no red states, no blue states, just the United States of America. Ahhhhh, how touching and uplifting. Finding it hard to believe he really believes that.
His wifes slip up with that shit about being proud of America for the first time was the truth about how they feel. The link is there between her slip up and Rev. Wrights preachings.
Mid wrote:Listening now. What a great speaker. I wish he was a Republican
Mid wrote:Don't be ridiculous Kill. He's responding to a very valid racial issue at hand and doing a fantastic job.
Simply by listening to his speech!Mid wrote:Very inspirational. I hope the media gets off his back a bit on this. I think he answered my concerns very clearly. Going to listen to Rush today and see if he is reasonable about this.
To recap:
Your initial take was that Obama believes in 'separatism and white hatred' and that his speech would be a bunch of 'lies' to try to get him out of it, but you wouldn't be fooled.
Then you listened to his speech, liked it, and said that he 'answered your concerns very clearly.'
To me, when you're open to changing your mind based on new information and new experiences, that is quite literally being 'open-minded.'
I probably wouldn't have pointed it out if you had switched from agreeing with me to disagreeing with me, but it would have been open-minded nonetheless.
The fact that you changed your mind implies that you were OPEN to changing your MIND.

I haven't changed my mind, sweetie. I believe he and mostly his wife still agree with much of the rhetoric the Rev. Wright spews. I also think he is smart enough of a man to realize he and the world need to move on. I think this whole campaign and the amazing success he has had, has opened HIS mind that the USKKKofA isn't as bad as he thought.
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
You know I have to say showing your love for America is a hell of a lot more than pledging allegiance to the flag and putting your hand over your heart during the national anthem.
What makes you a patriot is hardwork, helping your fellow American, activity in community events, questioning your government, and participating in the political process. Being a patriot is not driving a truck, listening to country, or being affiliated to a particular political party. Trying to brand particular people and items more American is ridiculous.

Fischer, a former Iowa Democratic Party chairman who was seen as a key Iowa pick up for Obama, wrote on his blog. "When Joe McCarthy questioned others' patriotism, McCarthy (1) actually believed, at least aparently, the questions were genuine, and (2) he did so in order to build up, not tear down, his own party, the GOP. Bill Clinton cannot possibly seriously believe Obama is not a patriot, and cannot possibly be said to be helping -- instead he is hurting -- his own party. B. Clinton should never be forgiven. Democratic Party Official: Clinton Pursuing 'The Tonya Harding Option'
March 25, 2008 3:44 PM
l just spoke with a Democratic Party official, who asked for anonymity so as to speak candidly, who said we in the media are all missing the point of this Democratic fight.
The delegate math is difficult for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, the official said. But it's not a question of CAN she achieve it. Of course she can, the official said.
The question is -- what will Clinton have to do in order to achieve it?
What will she have to do to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, in order to eke out her improbable victory?
She will have to "break his back," the official said. She will have to destroy Obama, make Obama completely unacceptable.
"Her securing the nomination is certainly possible - but it will require exercising the 'Tonya Harding option.'" the official said. "Is that really what we Democrats want?"
The Tonya Harding Option -- the first time I've heard it put that way.
It implies that Clinton is so set on ensuring that Obama doesn't get the nomination, not only is she willing to take extra-ruthless steps, but in the end neither she nor Obama win the gold.
(In this metaphor, presumably, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., would be Oksana Baiul. Does that make former President Bill Clinton Jeff Gillooly?)

Buzz up!on Yahoo! In an interview with Newsweek, Hillary Clinton raised the specter of pledged delegates, nominated by voters, switching their votes at the Democratic Convention.
How can you win the nomination when the math looks so bleak for you?
It doesn't look bleak at all. I have a very close race with Senator Obama. There are elected delegates, caucus delegates and superdelegates, all for different reasons, and they're all equal in their ability to cast their vote for whomever they choose. Even elected and caucus delegates are not required to stay with whomever they are pledged to. This is a very carefully constructed process that goes back years, and we're going to follow the process.
It was only a few weeks ago that the Clinton camp was accused of seeking the vote of pledged delegates. A Politico article in mid February suggested the camp was thinking about the strategy down as the convention drew closer:
"I swear it is not happening now, but as we get closer to the convention, if it is a stalemate, everybody will be going after everybody's delegates," a senior Clinton official told me Monday afternoon. "All the rules will be going out the window."
That article prompted the unequivocal response from the campaign:
We have not, are not and will not pursue the pledged delegates of Barack Obama. It's now time for the Obama campaign to be clear about their intentions.
UPDATE: Ben Smith is reporting that the Clinton's statements do not represent a change in stance on pledged delegates, according to a campaign aide.
Good luck Obama.

CRY HAVOC...........AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR!!!!!
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Shouldn't this be in the "McCain will be the Next President" thread? : )
McCain has got to be loving his time off. This is the easiest a presidential candidate has had it in a long time.
BTW, I'm still pissed at you for giving away my Jaundiced BP to Pravus Dei after they whined about the steamroll!
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I don't think so.
It is unknown how many Democrats would actually carry through and vote for a Republican next fall if their preferred candidate does not become the Democratic nominee. The Democratic campaign is in the heat of battle at the moment, but by November, there will have been several months of attempts to build party unity around the eventual nominee -- and a focus on reasons why the Republican nominee needs to be defeated.
And I'm sure when Clinton bows out, she'll tell her fans to go for Obama and they'll eat it up.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
No. Clinton will want a republican in the White House again so her 2012 campaign will have a better chance at success. She's screwed if Obama gets into office and does well.Leonaerd wrote: And I'm sure when Clinton bows out, she'll tell her fans to go for Obama and they'll eat it up.

It does not hurt that McCain is much more of a moderate than the last 8 years worth of white house occupancy.

LOL.....bows out? Clinton will not bow out. She would have done so by now. She has no integrity. She doesn't wish for party unity. She wishes to be the first female president and will destroy all who gets in her way. McCain can thank Hillary for giving him the 2008 election.Leonaerd wrote:

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I completely agree with Mid. She will stoop to any low to steal the nomination from Obama. The only way to get her to accept defeat is by having Obama reach the 2024 threshold which will require superdelegates. That's the only way. I think it will happen though.
I tell it like a true mackadelic.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Yup. I cannot see her backing down at all. And if she does lose, I can't see her bowing out gracefully unless she sees its usefulness in 2012.
