It doesn't call it into question, it completely negates the possibility that you are intelligent.Winnow wrote:Placing any bumper sticker on your car calls into question the entire intelligence argument!
Furthermore, if you have the backside of your car plastered with bumper stickers varying from "Save the whales" to "Insert clever anti Bush bumper sticker here" you should be pulled over and shot to spare the world your bullshit.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Zimmerman has responded to the CNet article, stating that the portions that refer to Zimmerman are out of context and inaccurate. Given the gross shoddiness of at least this portion of McCullagh's piece, the veracity of the entire article becomes suspect in my eyes. I've not yet had time to dig further into it to discover what other problems exist with it, though. Regardless, I think that when it comes down to it, no candidate will be ideal on all issues. However, I think that you have to judge the ticket on the sum of their efforts over the entire coarse of their political careers. From that perspective, for all of the faults of both Obama and Biden, the Democratic ticket remains the clear choice in the upcoming election, in my opinion.Aardor wrote:I am not sure that I can vote for a ticket with Biden on it, after reviewing his stances regarding Technology/The Internet:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10024 ... riesArea.0
Granted, Obama has pretty much the opposite views on all of those issues, but if a big part of the reason I chose not to vote for a McCain ticket was his views on these same issues, I do not feel I can vote for a ticket containing Biden. It mostly comes down to the fact that I view my vote as next to worthless, given the electoral college and the fact that PA goes democrat.
I mean, for god's sake, he's the reason Zimmerman created PGP!

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Obama is the first person I've ever supported for president. As a result, his name gets to go on the lower right of my back window. This is the second bumper sticker I've ever had. The first one was a 98 Rock bumper sticker that I had in the same location on a different car that I drove during high school.Funkmasterr wrote:It doesn't call it into question, it completely negates the possibility that you are intelligent.

Furthermore, I completely disagree with you. I think it looks pretty cool, even if I don't agree with some or all of the stickers. There is another bumper sticker that I'd like to put on my back window if I ever see it. Something to the effect of "PUT THE PHONE DOWN!!!"

I don't get the bumper sticker hate. A sticker or two for your favorite sports team, band, university or political/social cause is no big deal to me. A crowd of stickers on a dozen different topics is a different matter, though. It signals a bit of nuttiness.
On topic, I thought Michelle Obama's speech last night was pretty awesome, but Hillary nailed it tonight. She delivered a really powerful unity message that I think will resonate with people.

I don't really care for bumper stickers, but I don't really hate on folks that love them... I may question their common sense, but to each their own...
Here in Oregon we have a mixed bag of right and left, with either more common depending where you are. It takes about 5-10 minutes from Portland in any direction to go from 'PETA' to 'I
GW'.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I won't put a bumper sticker on my vehicle. Why associate yourself with anything? What are you advertising?
My truck is stock, with window shades, and that's it. No one needs to know what sports team I like, what my political leanings are, or about my religion or lack thereof. On the other hand my father has a ton of Air Force and Retired Vietnam Veteran stickers on his, which I can't understand.
Don't give anyone a reason to dislike you. I am sure some of you see a pro-Bush sticker and immediately think the driver must be an idiot. I feel the same way when I see a Kerry Edwards sticker, and no one deserves that prejudgment on the road.

Why have an avatar on a web forum? Why wear a team jersey or ball cap? Why wear a message t-shirt? Why put a wallpaper on your desktop or your mobile phone? Why get a custom vanity tag? Why not? Like I said, a sticker or two for a band, team, university, faith, cause or whatever is no big deal. Wallpapering the back of your car with a dozen different causes or interests is a different matter, though, although I don't particularly care whether someone does it to their car or not.
I think I'm going to go out and buy a 3ID sticker now to go next to my "Veterans for Obama" sticker

I have an avatar mostly so it's easy to pick my posts out, and cause it looks boring blank. My car looks sexy as hell without anything on it.Xatrei wrote:Why have an avatar on a web forum? I've never wore team jersey's/hats - more because I don't like sports than anything else.
Wallpaper on your phone or desktop is something you think is cool and generally you will be the only person to see it.
Why do you think anyone gives a fuck if your kid is a honor student? Why do you think anyone gives a fuck if you like the Packers, or Tool, etc etc etc? You know you like that shit, NO ONE ELSE driving by you see's those stickers and thinks anything other than "who cares?" or "what a fucking retard".
The one that gets me the most here though is people still driving around with Wellstone stickers on their cars. HE'S FUCKING DEAD, TAKE THE GODDAMN STICKER OFF YOUR CAR.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
No one cares about what kind of car you drive, either. One could argue that the premium logo on the back of a car is just a super expensive bumper sticker. I've always had a mostly utilitarian attitude about transporation. I don't care what it looks like, or what sort of creature comforts it has (beyond AC and a modest sound system). I do, however, care that it can reliably get me from point a to b, not cost a fortune to own or operate (there are plenty of other things I'd rather spend my cash on). Back in 2002, I came pretty close to buying a BMW 5 series in a moment of nuttiness, but my utilitarian nature prevailed, and I ended up buying a slightly used pickup from a friend of mine. I still drive that truck today, and I maintain it well, but not being one to worry about its appearance, it hasn't been washed since I bought it, and consequently I'm not worried about a couple of stickers detracting from its appearance.
More importantly, I don't care what other people do to their vehicles. If they want to plaster them with 100's of decals, so be it. If they want to keep it clean to show off their posh manufacturer's logo, good for them.

I have mixed emotions about the logo on the back of the car. While I do think it's kinda silly - I think I dislike it even more when I see a car that has been "de-badged"... I would like to think the people that do that do it because they think advertising for the manufacturer is stupid, but judging by the cars I generally see it done to, I think it's done moreso because the owner of the car is 150% douchebag.

I am 100% for supporting independent bands though. I kind of like seeing a sticker of a band that I am familiar with that may be relatively unknown. Then again, I listen to a lot of punkrock, so most of my fellow fans are not likely to have a vehicle aside from bicycle or buspass.

I heard Obama is going to try and outlaw bumper stickers if he gets elected except for religious fish symbols.
He won't wear a little U.S. Flag pin and won't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem. The guy is trying to form a one world government, slowly taking away the symbols of America.
His VP is going to screw up the Internet.
Liberals need to get over their republican hate and see Obama for what he is.
Refer to this Nostradamus quatrain:
The large eared man, made fun of as a child
Will be vexed by the strange alliance,
There will be unleashed live fire, hidden death,
And those in the net will lose their way.

Congratulations on your very unfunny post?
You must be blind, since no "liberals" (label much?) got riled up about bumper stickers. OH WOW YEAH THE LIBS WILL SURE HATE BUMPER STICKER DISCUSSION LOL.
????
Anyway, over here in Ireland you don't really get the bumper sticker culture that seems to be pervasive in the US (well, in certain states anyway). Occasionally you may see a guy driving along with a Manchester United or a Liverpool sticker, but this is very rare. Advertising your politics in certain parts of Belfast probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway

I don't follow politicians and had really never heard of Biden before he was announced as Obama's running mate - but watching his speech right now I have to say I'm pretty comfortable with Obama's selection. He doesn't sound like a politician as much as most that I've watched in the past, and based upon what other people say about him I've got to believe that he's got some pretty decent values.
I haven't watched Hillary's speech, but Michelle's was pretty damn good. Other than the ghey song at the end.

John Kerry's speech was pretty good. At his concession speech in '04, I said that if he'd shown half that kind of fight and energy and conviction throughout the campaign, he'd have demolished Bush. Tonight was more of that kind of attitude. I guess not having anything to lose is liberating.
