http://www.pm.gov.uk/output/Page6120.asp13. Based on the UNSCOM report to the UN Security Council in January 1999 and earlier UNSCOM reports, we assess that when the UN inspectors left Iraq they were unable to account for:
up to 360 tonnes of bulk chemical warfare agent, including 1.5 tonnes of VX nerve agent;
up to 3,000 tonnes of precursor chemicals, including approximately 300 tonnes which, in the Iraqi CW programme, were unique to the production of VX;
growth media procured for biological agent production (enough to produce over three times the 8,500 litres of anthrax spores Iraq admits to having manufactured);
over 30,000 special munitions for delivery of chemical and biological agents.

God Kyoukan not even you can be stupid enough to ask a question like that... Oh ya I guess you could.
I would hazard to guess that FAILED to account for means that UNSCOM knows these items exist in IRAQ either from Iraq themselves or from intelligence reports and that IRAQ has not shown that they have been destroyed or where they are located. WOW that was fucking difficult.
So if either case is true then IRAQ has failed to fulfill the UN requirements.
Now what was your point?

I was backing up what I said about WMD still being there w/ some facts I had meant to have in my original post.
Brotha:
Where the fuck did you read that I said weapons inspectors found weapons and left them there? I'm looking through my post, but I can't see it...
I see so many people mentioning that we are the ones who supplied some of these weapons to Iraq, but what difference does it make now? By saying this are you trying to imply that we have no right to defend ourselves now? I too am critical in hindsight of how we aided Iraq but the point is moot when arguing against the case of war w/ Iraq.
Brotha:
Kyoukan:In 1998 when inspectors left there were thousands of tons of chemical and biological weapons.
Where the fuck did you read that the weapons inspectors found "thousands of tons" of weapons and just left them there?

I just don't see how people can pass this off as just being about oil. Yes, when I step back and look objectively, I can see that a small part of it could be oil. But our war w/ Iraq is not soley based on oil. Suddenly Iraq is a huge threat to world peace? I think 911 woke us up to the fact that we're not invincible, and mass murder on US soil is possible. We also realized that if we leave anti US terrorists regimes how they are another 911 is bound to happen, perhaps on a greater scale. I know Iraq hasn't been tied directly (to my knowledge) to 911, so please don't use that recycled response. But if you think for a second that Iraq wouldn't have gladly supported 911 by either funds or manpower and been proud of it then you're fooling yourself.This has been an issue even before the first gulf war. Now there's a president in office who's family is in the oil business, a vice president who's made 100's of millions out of oil, a national security advisor who is so fucking entrenched in the oil industry there is a god damn fucking Chevron double hulled OIL TANKER named after her, and now suddenly Iraq is this huge threat to world peace.

my point is exactly what I fucking said. if you had a fucking brain rolling around under that hockey helmet they make you wear so you don't hurt yourself, you would be able to comprehend it.
the assertion was that the UN had found a whole bunch of WMD's in iraq in 1998 and left them there. my point was that they did not.

Brotha, first of all France, Russia, and China (all members of the security council) are against a pre-emptive strike. Germany is outspokenly against it. I hate to disappoint you, but this aint gonna be a bandwagon war like the first one was. Secondly, no matter what statistics you come up with, nothing you say justifies a war with a country that poses no threat to the safety of the united states. And how soon do we forget that 15 of the 19 hijackers were saudi. Escape goats and propaganda go hand in hand.
I have changed my mind though. I really do want this war to happen and soon. Nothing would be better to teach the entire world that MIGHT DOES NOT MAKE RIGHT, and a corrupt sheriff is worse than a criminal.

I'm one of the so-called "real Americans" and the impending war leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't really understand why so many are blindly following the war without questioning it. Yes, Saddam is bad and he needs to be ousted. Should we kill tens of thousands of people to do it? Probably not. I'll provide you with a quote that my best friend wrote on another board. He's of Iraqi descent (don't worry, he was born in America so he has every right to be here!) and much of his family still lives over in Iraq.
As he's my best friend, pain caused to him hurts me as well, and I'd like us to have some sort of fucking reason for going over there and killing his Aunts and Uncles and Cousins and Grandparents.I think this puts things into perspective very nicely (see quote below)... I just cant believe what we're doing (or are about to do).. The military attack plan that has leaked out from the pentagon calls for an initial strike of 400 cruise missiles to Baghdad on the first day of war followed by an additional 400 cruise missiles on the second day. During the gulf war in 1991, they fired 400 cruise missiles over a 2 month time period. The idea is that the sheer amount of destruction will awe the iraqis into surrender or overthrow.. One analyst was saying that "there will be no safe place in Baghdad" - This is really terrifying to me considering my whole family lives in Baghdad. With all this talk of war, it's very very rare that you hear the media commentig on the potential for iraqi civillian casulaties...which military analysts suggest will be upwards of 75,000 people. That's just from bombs..who knows how many children will die from malnutrition and disease after the country's infrastructure is destroyed and its hard to get clean water.. Actually they do make some mention of this, but they call it "collateral damage". Last time I checked, we are all human beings and all of our lives are equally sacred. I'm all for elimination of Saddam and his regime...but not at this cost. Sorry for the rant, but I'm just ashamed that the media/US govt dont seem to make an issue out of this. These are innocent human beings just like us who are going to die....
And by the way, Captain America, one of the fabulous things about the country you love so much is that people are allowed to have a difference of opinion. Asking Xyun to leave because he questions our motives isn't doing us any favors. It'd be a lot more beneficial to us to get the unintelligent, closed-minded people to leave. I'll buy your plane ticket.

I'll wait for the official UN body counts before I start believing these "retired" people that help CNN get ratings. If those people were worth a damn, the pentagon, or wherever, would not have fired their asses in the first place.
When these news stations come out with projected body counts, it is usually part of a governments scare tactic. The U.S. government is using the media as a vesile for pre-war hysteria.

Midnight, speaking out against a war is not un-American. In fact, that's what makes them a patriot. I disagree with most of them, but that's why we are number one (you read me right, America is number 1). Speaking out against the way you want your country run is one thing, and totally fine....aiding the enemy is quite another. As far as I know, no one here arguing against us right wingers are sending attack plans to Iraq or telling them how to sneak a dirty bomb onto 5th Ave. If we did not have differing opinions on how our country should be run, we'd be another monarchy playing catch-up with the big boys.

The dirty bomb becomes more of a possibility the longer we become this passive nation. We need to toughen up and not allow rogue nations to have the ability to kill thousands, or even millions of people.
Thier is very little likely-hood America will send nukes up into Canada or down into Mexico. However, looking at the unrest and war-like nature, religous fanaticism of Iraq, the possibility of them doing so is very high they would attack their neighbors.
Everyone was pissed when 9-11 happened. Why oh why didn't the government do more? Well now they are and all we hear is "stop, you war mongering republicans, stop!". Now you are giving these countries a reason to get us. It's a no win situation.

Yes, there will be bigger 9-11's to come. Unfortunately there will always be evil people out there who will, un-provoked, attack innocent people.

In my mind (as I said earlier), 9/11 woke us up to the very real threats terrorism and the supporters of terrorism pose. Al Qaeda isn't the only terrorists organization in the world that hates the US, if you didn't know. Sorry for spoiling your game of connect the dots Midnyte...I just thought it was time for a little hint.To again pose a previous question: What does 9/11 or Al Qaeda have to do with Iraq?
Supposedly next week Colin Powell is going to come out and directly link Iraq to Al Qaeda, which should be interesting.

/agree falla, the appeasement has to stop.
Why is it that liberals (or anyone anti war), always changes the subject when people are discussing what to do w/ Iraq? By changing the subject I mean they say "well this country is doing this, why aren't we there?", "well we gave the weapons to iraq", "it's all about oil!!." We are talking about IRAQ here, not the entire middle east or North Korea, and we are talking about Iraq needing to disarm based on a UN resolution, not the number of gallons of oil the US buys from Iraq a year.
Iraq is not volunarily disarming or fully cooperating w/ UN inspectors. We've seen in the past what voluntary disarmament looks like (in South Africa, Ukraine, etc), Iraq obviously is not doing this. The inspector's job isn't to turn over every rock in Iraq looking for WMD that we know they already have. Hans Blix even said today that more time would just be a waste of time unless Iraq started assisting in the inspections.
I ask you staunch anti war people, what do you want to do now? Iraq has been given so many chances to settle this peacefully it's laughable. The only option left in my mind is war. One more year of inspections will do nothing. I want to hear how you want to handle the situation in Iraq as it is right now.

I ask you staunch anti war people, what do you want to do now? Iraq has been given so many chances to settle this peacefully it's laughable. The only option left in my mind is war. One more year of inspections will do nothing. I want to hear how you want to handle the situation in Iraq as it is right now.
