I will share my point of view. If you want all our insanity then play on a FFA PvP server. Everyone against everyone, EVERYWHERE! (except in city instances).

This is the most like the original Ultima Online rulesets as I have ever seen in a game since 1997. You either form a neutral bond against others in your area or you attack them. No other options. If you group then you are safer but no one is completely safe. I have saw people group up, then when thier group mate is low health, they disband group and kill them off for an easy kill, lol.

I have saw the respawn pads camped with groups just farming the hell out of people choosing to respawn at that point. However you get to CHOOSE where you want to respawn, so if the pad is camped, just pick another. I did see many idiots though trying to respawn and run away to die a thousand deaths.

In the FFA PvP servers, you are scared to even engage a mob because you never know when an assassin or ranger is going to come out of stealth and hammer you.

The chaos is like no other MMO. Decapitation, Tits, cussing, carnage... it is all there. Global chat is rated Mature. The GMs dont care if you cuss. They say, the game is Mature and language is part of the warning on the box. Soon after every cuss word in the book, lit up the global chat and the GM laughed. hahah.

Kids shouldnt be playing this game as it is rated M.

I am gonna be playing.
Man, you make this game sound like it's going to be awesome.

FFA PVP server sounds like a fun time if you enjoy getting gang raped by a bunch of 12 year old assholes.

I made the adjustments to the downloader as suggested but still pulling less than 200k. Not sure if it is due to the time of day or what. I am supposed to be getting much faster speeds like 1.5mb but I guess it is getting throttled some place.

Question: Does it open on the 17th in EU? that would mean it would still be the 16th in the US? and is that at midnight on the 16th?

I try to participate in any sort of gang rape that becomes available to me.

I've been getting 1500-2000 KB/Sec all day (well over the past few hours).

Opens 12:01AM on the 17th if you preorder and pay to start early.

The Game Director for MMO Age of Conan has said that it the first 60 levels will take between two to three hours to complete, but after level 60 it will take longer. To get to level 80 it will take an average of 250 hours.
Not sure that progression makes much sense.

well as long as they mean 2-3 hours per level to 60.. and then 250 avg total to 80.. thats not too unusual, i dont think. purposeful or not, its an almost exact copy of WoW's leveling model

The people I had been playing with fully expect to be around 40-60 within the three day head start. Granted, their beta knowledge will help them, but that is still ridiculously fast.

It clearly means 2-3 hours per level until 60, and then 250 hours per level afterwards. This is what seperates the strong from the weak, you see.

So it takes 5000 hours to get through levels 60-80?

Thats 208 days played, 24/7. (or ~ 85.6 TB downloaded for some!)

Winnow had 365+ RL days played (453,825 slows, 21,403 Focus and 1 True North spell cast) so I guess it's possible.

I don't see any (legit) system specs for this game. I also don't even recall what I'm running at home anymore, it's been so long since I was serious about anything.

I'm kind of interested in checking this out, anyone know what it'll require? I don't need to be running with the highest settings or anything, I don't have much problem scaling back. I could run Vanguard just fine, I think that's the last thing I tried that seemed to be a resource hog.

I understand this but tell me this, 12:01 AM in which timezone? Even if it is just the US servers, are they located on the East Coast or West Coast or in downtown Chicago in the back of a soup kitchen?

Has anyone downloaded the full 13GB prethingy?

I've been waiting for it to show up on the newsgroups but no luck yet. Now I don't know if I'd have enough time to download it if it's a really slow bit torrent type thing before the servers open up.

I'm also wondering who's fastest about giving the pre trial code. Amazon (probably can't order from them now with my account marked as a trouble spot from the TV fiasco), Best Buy, or some other place.

I have it downloaded at home, and it was not the EU version listed before, but the US version.

As for the code, it was in the box I got at Best Buy, so I would say that it was faster than Amazon.

piece of shit account creation process. I have 3 or 4 funcom accounts already, which includes two old AO pay accounts. I did not want to create another, but that was the only way it would even accept my damn pre-order code. Then, it let me get all the way through account creation without telling me that the early access was "sold out." Thinking I might just sit on this damn $10.00 rhino and not buy the fucking game.

Yeah I saw it on the boards yesterday that the prerelease is sold out for the early entry. I guess a lot of people are pissed. Not me though. I got mine all set up and ready to go. Now I just wish they would release the server names so people can get organized a bit.

Server List

The gates to Age of Conan open in just a few days from now and legions of adventurers can hardly wait to set foot on Hyborian soil. Many want to chose their future home (also known as ‘Server’) beforehand and we know the list below has been eagerly awaited.

Since we know how important those server names are we ran several polls on all our community forums to find out which names each territory prefers the most. We then distributed those names among the different territories/languages.

These servers are the ones that will be available on 17th of May when the Early Access play starts. The servers are scaled to modern industry standards, and will hopefully serve as your home for years to come! During Early Access we will closely monitor the number of players on each server to find out which types are the popular ones. Additional servers will then be made available for launch.

So, without further ado: here are the servers for the Early Access starting 17th of May:

US Servers (Early Access 17th of May)

PvE Servers
• Set
• Dagoth
• Zug

• Aquilonia

French Servers (Early Access 17th of May)

I'll probably go with one of the PvE servers. (Zug is leading server candidate so far for names IMO)

..and wtf, the prething is sold out? I just finished downloading the 13GB file.

So there's no reason to buy the game not until it's release date I guess. Will my prerelease install work with the full game so I don't have to reinstall? That would be enough to buy the prething at Best Buy.

Your install will still work. Also, you still get the items for preordering (mount/bags or bow), you just can't pay the $5 fee to start on Saturday. So preordering still has a point, they just hit the number of people they want logging into the game early.

Def going PVP, maybe roleplay, but I doubt it.

Not sure what server I'll go to. If VVers start grouping on one, I'll go there.

I went to Best buy and they are sold out of the preorder boxes so no Rhino for me. I'll install the pre-game and get the Funcom stuff out of the way so at least I'll be able to go when the game arrives.

I suppose but then I'd have to wait for the code until it was mailed to me. With a local store, I can grab the code and be off and running with the already installed game a day or two earlier.

I know but what happens for the final release of the game? I'd have the mount but would still wait a couple days to play while the game is being shipped or do they send you a code for the final game? Does the same code that gives you the mount work to activate the game? Confused a little. I'm less concerned about the mount than being able to play the first day the game is available but I'd order the mount preorder if they email the actual game code.

I think a preorder code allows you to play for like 10 days before you have to enter a retail code. (allows for shipping delays, you to leave the house and go get the game)

I stopped at a local Gamestop, preordered the game and they handed me a piece of paper with a cardboard backing. The paper was AoC preorder key, just had to scratch off the metallic dust with a coin to reveal the letters/numbers and then I created my Funcom account with that. I managed to snag early access.

As far as what do you need to run this game?

I was playing on an:
Abit ICG-7, Motherboard
Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0, overclocked to 4.0Ghz with HyperThreading
2GBs, 4 sticks of Corsair XMS PC3500 DDR in dual channel mode
ATI HD 3850 AGP, 512MB
2x Western Digital Caviar 7200RPM, 8mb cache drives attached to a Promise FastTrak Raid controller in Raid0
Fresh install of Windows XP

With almost all settings to LOWEST, I would get 20 FPS in the towns, cities, outdoor areas. Inside dungeons/houses/instances I would max out at 64FPS. (I think the game is hard capped at 64FPS too)

So if you have a lesser system than that, I would hold off on getting AoC. The game is written for DirectX10, so using Vista is the prefered method and well, my PC choked on Vista trying to run AoC. I was getting like 10-15 FPS max.

So I upgraded, all the parts are in 3 boxes from Newegg on my floor, I'll be doing a lot of downloading today. Gonna setup a dualboot XP32 then Vista64 rig.
I probably gave you virtual items once upon a time...

Cimmeria for me. If the endgame comes and there is nothing to do, at least PvP will be an option. PvE servers would just be bored with no options.

If the PvP is too insane, then I'll role an alt on Bane.

I'd like to kill me some French but they probably won't let Americans on French servers.

Bloodspire (recommended Oceanic)

Who or what is "Oceanic"?

People who play at oceanic times. I don't know, apparently it will have good population 24/7. It's based in the US so ping won't be an issue.

What times are Oceanic? Which Ocean? As far as I can tell, Oceanic means Hawaii, Pacific Islands, Australia, Fiji, the island the blew up with an atomic bomb is Oceanic.

Oceanic times

6pm EST = 4am the next day Oceanic

How's that good? We can steal spawns like the Japanese used to do to us on Veeshan?

Yeah, bunch of friends from WoW picked the server, but i've already complained about it a bit.

Apparently the mechanics of the game work in some way that it's very useful to have people on 24/7 to protect your keep and other things. Apparently this server is going to have both a high standard US time population, and oceanic population. I'll believe that shit when I see it.

These people recently screwed my over in WoW (convinced me to transfer to a guild on a server, then immediately stopped playing to play alliance characters), so if it sucks, i'll know before i've invested too much time in the game and change servers.

Anyone else having problems with the sound in the opener? I know it isn't officially released yet but you can still click on Play after you update and it takes you through the opening video. I get the sound sticking in places and just in general doesn't work well. I watched the same video off the main site without any problems. Just wondering if it is a soundcard issue or software issue that will hopefully be cleared up before start time.

I currently have no problems, but I had a ton before i started running it in windowed mode.

I just got it to run in DX10 last night too, before it wouldn't load the game at all, but i guess the patch fixed it.

I predict tons of problems on Saturday!

their website is a one line statement.

overload. I think I must say that this launch may get ugly, even with limited preplay people logging in.
I probably gave you virtual items once upon a time...
