Well fuck,

After several months of a good connection, I noticed web pages freezing while RDP'ing from my work to home PC and sure enough, I have the god damned gap problem again.

The only difference is the pattern looks different due to the Powerboost. The spikes have a sort of dog penis shape to them now...not that I would know what a dog penis looks like. Am I right though?

Same exact 23 seconds of bandwidth, 2 second cut off pattern

Same 60 seconds of bandwidth every 23 minutes.

I do get the +30Mbps boost each time it cuts off which is kinda funny since I mentioned trying to figure out a way to exploit the powerboost on the Newsleecher thread. Well I've decided I don't want to!

I think sylvus or sylvos is behind this!

I spent almost two hours with a "level 2" Cox tech after a quick five minute explanation of my issue scared off the level 1 tech. My main goal was to convince them NOT to send a tech out to my home again as I knew there was no problem with my equipment from the last tech visit.

The tech was patient enough and didn't think I was too crazy with my exact timings of the gaps matching up to the recent movie "23". He could see the ~3% packetloss in my area and was able to tell me that 15 other modems had been reset in my area today so he had something to go on. We switched out the Webstar modem with my old Motorola modem to see if that would do anything. It didn't and I also learned that only the webstar can handle +18Mbps so it's no longer an option with the Powerboost providing bandwidth north of that.

He ended up escalating it for someone to look into and said to give it around 3 days. OK by me I guess, my free cable timer is running again until they fix it. I'm a little concerned though because they never found the issue last time. On my last modem switch back to the Webstar, my connection just started working again so it was blind luck that it was fixed on their end.

Please say a prayer for my cable connection if you're the religious type. If you're not the praying type, think of me when you're having sex with your significant other.

No explanation from Cox but it's back to normal tonight:

I wish they'd tell me what the issue was so I could explain it easily if it happens again.

Reading your emosaga about the gaps in your internets reminded me of why I stopped using cable. Also, losing connection when the power goes out, even if you have your network gear hooked to a UPS, sucks balls.

Even if I had to live with the gaps, cable is far and away the best option in my area, especially with the 30Mbps boost thingy. I now know that whenever FIOS brings its 15Mbps into my area, Cox can crank up my connection all the way to 30Mbps if needed in the battle to save customers. I've had cable here since 1998-ish and this is the first issue I've had. Most people wouldn't even know there was a problem with the caching/buffering of data that takes place on the net. Me, (bandwidth anal) and the Vonage dude that lives nearby are the only people that complained.

Cable/DSL/Other is just like Cell Phone services. A lot of it depends on where you live.
