Texas: 19yo gets life for helping gf end pregnancy..
States Rights issue, 50 different set of rules, kinda like the age of consent (I think its 11 in Arkansas)
INteresting how the news is focused on this 'child' missing in Aruba.
Um, she is fucking 18. Tragic circumstance, but for God's sake, lets find an age where you are an adult and adhere to it.
Seeber for Congress!
Drinking at 18
Sex at 15
No adult charges at the movies until 18
Drivers license at 18
Yearly retest every old person for a drivers license after age 60
Free condoms
Tax Churches.
My platform is set. Hop on the bandwagon folks, we have grassroots to pull up.

It's really sad when this crap happens. Stupid double standards that make idiot kids go and do stupid shit like this sicken me to no end.
Young women getting abortions as a form of birth control. Bad Thing.
Young women giving birth to kids while they're unmarried and still practically kids themselves. Bad Thing.
Now, I'm not saying that the second condition I mentioned is something great, but when you have both of those situations mixed, only bad things can come of it.
Example: Girls becomes pregnant. Social pressures lead to a fear of social rejection/reprisal for simply becoming pregnant (well, yeah, bad call on her part, but people should get over it) leads her to try and "hide" the problem from everyone (possibly including parents) and bam, self-inflicted abortion. Whether she's got a boyfriend dumb enough to step on her, or she has a lovely little coat-hanger treatment available, it's one hell of a dumb move. A dumb move that in most cases I'd bet comes from these lame social pressures.
If some girl gets knocked up, society shouldn't force her to bear any more burdens by being assholes and looking down upon her. Odds are, raising the kid will be hard enough without that. I know most people here have enough reason to and sense to never pull that sort of act, but we also can probably agree that there are people who'd practically shun the girl from their social groups (families, friends, co-workers, etc.) for simply getting pregnant, while unmarried, in the first place.
It's a shitty situation and I personally feel that there needs to be more flexibility in abortion law. By that I'm not saying for abortion to be the newest birth control rage, but allow for multiple paths to varying circumstances. Albeit far from me to tell others how to raise their children, there are times that accidents happen and a girl wants a pregnancy and the parents want their daughter to have the child as a punishment for what they did (a terrible beginning to parenthood imo.) Parent Notification is 100% necessary, and, in most cases their consent should be required as well, but there should be other means of possibly bypassing a parental veto. A young, pregnant girl, if veto'd by her parents, is likely to attempt varying methods like the couple posted in the beginning of this thread. Many "amateur-hour abortions" can lead to the death of the mother as well as the child. Personally, I find the death of both more disturbing than the abortion of something that's debateably human. Regardless of one's stance on when the life of the baby occurs, we can all tell that 2 lives snuffed is a greater loss than 1.
I'm disturbed and pretty much find myself at odds with both sides of the abortion issue. My only unwavering stance on the issue goes with the idea that birth prevention/control materials should be readily available.

Because she is not the only one to have to deal with those consequences. Think a 17 year old mom will finish high school? Think a 19 year old boy is likely to stick around to raise the kid? Gee, looks like a welfare case in the brewing, which, as a conservative, you should be looking to prevent.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Nope. You aren't wrong. A child under the age of 18 should have parental consent to have an operation to kill something growing inside her. She would not be allowed to undergo an operation in a hospital without parental consent, what makes this any different, except for the fact it is a procedure to allow someone the easy way out of not having to pay the consequences for their actions?Lohrno wrote:True. But he did strongly imply it. Was I wrong in thinking that Midnyte only wants abortion with parental consent?cid wrote: He did not say anything about the parents telling the child what to do.
