Ok, after hearing about netflix, I started to search for something similar in Canada. Has anyone in Canada tried this service at all? And if so what are your thoughts on it.
Also - anyone in the US that uses Netflix? And what are your thoughts on that.

I have used NetFlix for over a year now and LOVE it! The big selling point is that the DVD is shipped with a postage-paid envelope. Some other features:
Keep any DVD as long as you want--they ship out a new one from your queue as they are returned.
You can rearrange your queue as well as add 'Coming Soon' titles that will pop into your list as they become available.
HUGE library--basically, most titles that are available in DVD format, are available from NetFlix.
Search engine + categories - Ever been to a video store and forgot about something you wanted to see, only to settle with something from the New Release section? With NetFlix, you can add any number of movies to your queue.
Only bad point is sometimes a new release or a title that they have limited stock of will take awhile to be available, after all, someone might not return it promptly.
Overall, it is pretty damn sweet! They have a free 2-week trial available @ http://www.netflix.com

Hmm potential suckage there. If you order a two DVD movie and you get mailed only the 2nd DVD due to the queue, you're kinda screwed. Any safeguards against this?Ennia wrote:only bad thing about Netflix is they ship one disc per envelope, if some DVD's consist of more than one disc you need to remember to order them too if you wanna watch them.

That fast...wow. Wait. How do you get another by Thursday? I would assume you put one movie in the mail on Monday, and then you have to wait the mail time for that one....they receive it and send out the next in your queue...you wait mail time..etc. Or do you let them know online when you have mailed it?

I am also a NETFLIX subscriber and love it. They ship out the DVDs in something that looks very much to me like regular mail, but the turn around times are exactly what Canelek reports. I have never had any ssue with them. In the last year there have been 2 DVDs - Borne Identity and The Ring - that got labeled something other than "Available," and for those two I had to wait about 2 weeks to get them. So, while they do not have an unlimitted stock and can have demand outstrip supply for periods, overwhelmingly they have had a huge selection that was available immediately. You really should go check out their selection too. It is truely enormous. Guarantee it is 5 times or more what the largest blockbuster has and filled with all sorts of lesser known titles. Huge foriegn selection, various specicialty selections, etc. Pretty sure there is no porn, but I never looked.
I will second the drawback noted. I have had no problem with 2 DVD sets, but above that it is annoying. Also, because you are renting disks, not DVDs as sold in the stores, it will often not be obvious if you are missing an extras DVD and when you place an order, it only assumes ou want the movie, you would have to be thinking about the extra disk and specifically search and order it. I have feedbacked a few times on this that they should automatically ask you if you want the other disks in the set added to your queue (sp?). I also wish they would make an exception to their 3 disk policy if you were ordering a collection (this has been the main reason I have never used them to rent TV series - which usually come in 5-8 disk sets).
So, it is certainly not without its minor issues, but even living in NYC with vid stores all around me, I find NETFLIX to be a huge benefit - and not merely because it is a huge savings (it is if you watch more than 3 movies a month). It simply beats vid store rentals hands down, even not considering cost a factor at all. And this is from the heart of NYC, if you are "in the middle of nowhere," it will obviously be even better.
EDIT: Just a note on the above, when a disk gets labled as a wait, they just skipped them, but left them at the top of my queue. That is, I did not wait 2 weeks to get A DVD, but 2 weeks to get those particular DVDs. In teh mean time, they sent me the next disk on my list.
