The Sopranos

Post by Toshira »

Just watched the first 3 seasons on DVD. Took me until about the second season to really get into it, but I'm hooked now. The episode near the end of season 2 when the crime has been perpetrated on the therapist...
Tony: "Do you have something you want to tell me?"
Doctor Malfi: "...No."

...had me about sreaming at the screen in agony. Tis good shit. Any other fans?

I have just seen the first 3 seasons on DVD also, and loved them. I had seen a couple episodes on HBO a while back, and can't wait to get the next season on DVD.

I am a huge Sopranos fan. I have seen everyone, and to those that are waiting to check out season four: don't get your hopes up. It was really a huge dissappointment. Of the 13 episodes maybe 3 were worth watching. It had a lot less action and a lot more story to it. Hopefully it is leading up to the last season, but all I know (and the NY Post, Times, etc.) is that season 4 sucked ass.

Yah I heard the same thing about season 4. Story is good, as long as it's not the contrived shit that I KNOW I'm gonna see like Paulie debating on whether or not to join the NYC families. If all the cappos start acting beligerent, show is going to go down fast.

Meanwhile, it's nice to see Spider from Goodfellas (Christopher) enjoying some of the good life after his woeful ending at the hands of Joe Pesci.

Just realized who Junior is the other day. It's Johnny Ola (spelling) from Godfather 2.

Season 4 was really good IMO, it's just not the same as the other seasons. Season 4 is less action, more character development. The dramas on network TV just can't compare to the dramas on HBO, and even if you weren't the biggest fan of Sopranos season 4, you have to admit it's still better than 99% of the other crap you could be watching instead.

True Etasi, it was better than most the cable sitcoms. But this is a mob series, and in a mob series you come to expect certain things. Violence is one of them. I thought that there was plenty of oppurtunity to make the season good (all the Johnny Sack vs. Tony Soprano beef). They just didn't capitalize on it.

I guess it helps that I don't really care if they stick to traditional mob/mafia type storylines. :) I can definitely see why people want that out of the show though, and the fourth season really didn't deliver in that aspect. As much as I liked season four, I hope the fifth and final season finds them making more episodes like they did in seasons one through three, because those really were the best seasons.
