Looting must stop
Looting must stop
This is a major problem in Iraq right now. Groups of people are going crazy looting left and right. The national library was looted and put on fire. The national museum has been looted. One of the hospitals in Baghdad not only is out of doctors (they are all home to protect their homes from looters), the hospital itself was also looted. Some patients were even lifted out of their beds so the thieves could take their beds.
I just finished reading a story about a man who was killed by Americans, NOT for looting but because he stood guard against looters. He and his neighbors stood guard every day (yes they were armed), a group of looters approached them, American soldiers came, looters disappeared, guards were scared by the Americans and ran, Americans shot at them and killed at least one person. The result? His family and friends swear if they ever get hold of an American soldier they will cut him to pieces.
All of this while the coalition forces claim it is not their job to prevent looting. It is not their problem. My ass it isn't.

Yes we should get our asses over there and police Baghdad because it certainly isn't the responsibily of the aggresor nation that invaded it and blew up it's infrastructure and government.
The funny thing is that you basically reflect the mentality of the entire US armed forces. The US government seems to have adopted a "hey man, not our problem" stance. Probably because the only thing in Iraq they care about is under the ground being pumped out in the now US-owned derricks.

It's messy. I don't think the looting is right, but can't say I blame them after b=going through so much crap the past 30 years. I do believe our forces should do something about the looting, but of course only in secured areas. Troop safety is primary, stopping looters is secondary. hey, I don't make the rules, the laws of common sense do.
But they are politicians which means they must be lying if their lips are movingBoogahz wrote:Formulating opinions for others? I for one have heard them saying the opposite.kyoukan wrote:

I agree with Spang. If you think looting is such a big problem I suggest you head right over and become a human shield.
The forces are still dealing with snipers and pockets of armed resistance. Crowd control will come in time. Meanwhile, I think there there is an element of "let them get it out of their system" from our troops.
Lest we forget... SoDamn Insane was in charge right up until last month. Lay the blame where it's deserved. Nearly every thing going on there in Irag can be traced backwards in a whole chain of faulty decisions by Mr. Insane himself.
Hmmmm, responsibility. It should be taught in modern families

I was in full suport of the military action there, but Kelshara is right, for the most part. We can't just destroy the law enforcement institutions there and then turn a blind eye to the lawlessness that ensues. I understand there is still military action going on, but something needs to be done.
There were artifacts in that museum that dated back to 2000BC and can never be replaced. That is a profound shame.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

As long as they dont loot our oil

I'll never forget that horrible evening I took my grandmother to the emergency Room.
After I spent an hour of anxious waiting the doctor came out of the Room and said,
"Sir, your grandmother is on an artificial life support system. Although her
brain is dead, her heart is still beating."
I said, " Oh my God, we've never had a Democrat in the family before."

Part of the problem is that our troops and more to the point our government doesn't want to look like they are oppressing the people. I mean how would it look if you saw a tank going through the streets of Baghdad policing the populous? Overall the Iraq's are acting like children who's parents have gone left them alone and not coming back. Do I understand why they are doing it? Yes I do, but that doesn't mean I have to condone it. They are stealing from their own people, now if they were raiding Saddam's palaces I would be more understanding of their motives. However, we have all his palaces guarded by our troops. Recently our troops have begun working with Iraqi police to try to control the situation, but the situation is still very bad over there.
Oh as far as someone saying that if we had a problem with it then we should go over there and do something about it, I'm sorry to inform you, but that's not the way our system works. You see we pay taxes so that people other than us can perform duties that we as a people feel have to be done. So what options do we as tax payers have? Well we can voice our opinions to the general public and to our employees in Congress and the White House.
