I seriously doubt any posters here have net nanny running on their home PCs.
I also doubt any of the companies that they work for use that particular product. Net Nanny doesn't scale very well.
Web content filters work on meta tags and databases of known websites.
If disney.com had 'anal sex' as a meta tag, every content filter would block it if they had pornography filtered.
Content filters do not scan for certain text within HTML coding.
While you may come across the occasional discrepancy for flitered sites, the tools currently available are pretty accurate.
I was very surprised to see that message come up today as my job requires me to have unrestricted internet access... I don't usually hit porn or gambling sites so I was oblivious to the fact that my access was, infact restricted.

thx info, but the "Net Nanny" comment was just a jab at the folks whose jobs are treating them like children. hehemiir wrote:I seriously doubt any posters here have net nanny running on their home PCs.

At my last company, restricting our Internet access actually decreased productivity. We spent more time hacking into the firewall and bitching at the admins than we had web-surfing. I'll grant you that a network support center is a different environment than most.miir wrote:Internet usage is a huge issue with a lot of companies.
Productivity decreases when people have internet access.
Bandwidth costs money.
