Much as I would like The Two Towers to win Best Picture, my guess is that it won't. I'd wager on Chicago.

chigaco was such a fucking instant clone of moulin rouge's success (i hated that too btw) that it takes a bunch of morons like the acedemy of motion pictures to vote it in. bear in mind I fucking hate musicals anyway, but chicago was such vapid crap that I thought I was going to puke on my shoes in the theater.

Here's my picks (not predictions)

Lead Actor:
PICK: Daniel Day-Lewis - if he doesn't win among this shit competition I will never watch a movie again

PREDICTION: Nicholson - I love Jack more than I love life, but I thought the real star of About Schmidt was the art direction and set designer. Nevertheless, Hollywood needs a face for this year's big awards and Nicholson is it.

Supporting Actor:
PICK: Christopher Walken (my favorite actor)

PREDICTION: John C. Reilly - This year's best supporting actor throwaway award.

Lead Actress:
PICK: Diane Lane - I thought she was great in unfaithful (not omg fantastic), but even if I mildly disliked her in it she would win by default against everyone else's roles this year. I hope every single person on this list except diane lane gets arm cancer and dies.

PREDICTION: Nicole Kidman - NEWSFLASH! THIS JUST IN! Nicole Kidman is a shitty actress! Virginia Woolf was a VERY VERY VERY fucking boring human being! Oh no some marginally talented old money rich old cunt goes crazy and moves out to the country! WOW LET'S MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT HOW BORING HER AND HER STUPID FUCKING BOOKS WERE. MERYL STREEP PLAYS A LESBIAN AND NICOLE KIDMAN IS SO BRAVE TO PUT ON A FAKE NOSE TO LOOK UGLY. BRAVE JUST LIKE VIRGINIA WOOLF. SO, SO BRAVE. HATE HATE HATE.

Supporting Actress:
PICK: Meryl Streep in Adaptation. Bleah. At least I didn't want to kill her and then myself after watching it.

PREDICTION: Juilianne Moore - Bleah.

Best Director:
PICK: Roman Polanski - Wow! An actual director with artistic vision in Hollywood! Somebody wring my panties out...

PREDICTION: I would love Scocese to win it but it is going to be a toss up between Rob Marhall and Stephen Daldry as Hollywood desperately searches for the magic directors that will be both commericially successful and artistically credible.. Will probably be Daldry but I am secretly hoping they both win, and their oscar is actually a big wad of C4 spray painted gold with a big fat fucking detonator wedged up it's ass set to go off when Daldry thanks Virginia Woolf for being so brave; so very, very brave. KABOOM! DIE FUCKERS!

PS. It's a fucking crime against all that is good and pure in this world that Jackson got fucking snubbed. They had better just be saving him up so they can rain fucking oscars down on him next year.

Best Picture:
PICK: Gangs of New York - Sorry pete but Gangs wins for the opening scene alone much less the rest of the movie which was fucking fantastic sans the god awful boring romantic sub-plot that should have been fucking cut.

PREDICTION: The Hours - THHHHPPPPTTTT!

Art Direction:
PICK Gangs of New York

PREDICTION: Chicago - Fuck you Chigaco

Cinematography:
PICK AND PREDICTION: Far From Heaven

My picks, not bothering to predict how poorly the judges will pick this year as I think it is a given.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Daniel Day-Lewis ("Gangs of New York") - I like the other actors for the most part, but Daniel Day-Lewis is a terrific actor that I feel has been overlooked far too many times.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Christopher Walken ("Catch Me if You Can") - I have not seen this movie, but I love just about anything that Walken does. I like Ed Harris quite a bit, but I have no wish to watch him in such cinematic tripe as The Hours.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Salma Hayek ("Frida") - I hear good things about this movie, and I love Salma Hayek. She is teh hawt. I haven't seen Unfaithful yet either, but I hear it was pretty good.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
I don't like any of my options here. I guess Kathy Bates. Whatever, moving on...

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
ICE AGE or SPIRITED AWAY - I loved both of these movies for different reasons, and I wouldn't mind either of them winning. Aside from Lilo and Stitch, which I regarded as average fare, the other movies weren't even worth watching.

ART DIRECTION
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS - Make it so, damnit.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
*shrug*

COSTUME DESIGN
*shrug* unless Salma Hayek is in skimpy outfits

DIRECTING
I can't even tell you how pissed I am that Jackson was snubbed AGAIN. This is one of the main reasons I won't watch the Oscars this year, instead waiting to read the results online the next day.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
I saw none of these films.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
ditto

FILM EDITING
*shrug*

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
I hear Hero is excellent

MAKEUP
*shrug*

MUSIC (SCORE)
I liked the score of Road to Perdition

MUSIC (SONG)
I don't care who wins, so long as it is not Eminem.

BEST PICTURE
It fucking better be Lord of the Rings. There are other movies here I wouldn't mind seeing take home the Oscar, but I need something to make up for Peter Jackson being snubbed again.

SHORT FILM (ANIMATED)
I actually liked the Chubbchubbs :D

SHORT FILM (LIVE ACTION)
*shrug*

SOUND
This is a tossup between Spiderman and Lord of the Rings for me.

SOUND EDITING
Minority Report did have some neat editing.

VISUAL EFFECTS
LotR, no question.

WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY)
*shrug*

WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)
Nia Vardalos, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING - This movie rocks. I liked the writing for Gangs too, and if they got the Oscar I wouldn't mind, but I really liked Wedding.
"Ale", 55 Cleric

I heard that the Academy is snubbing Peter Jackson mainly because they know they can reward him next your for Return of the King.

Day Lewis might not even show up to receive his award if he won--for that alone they may not choose him as the victor. Rather sad, really, he was fantastic in Gangs.

My picks:

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Michael Caine ("The Quiet American") or
Jack Nicholson ("About Schmidt")

Daniel Day Lewis was good in Gangs, but both Caine and Nicholson gave a career defining performance...

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Ed Harris ("The Hours")
or
Christopher Walken ("Catch Me if You Can")

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Salma Hayek ("Frida")

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Kathy Bates ("About Schmidt")

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
LILO & STITCH

Haven't seen Spirited Away so can't say...

ART DIRECTION
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

DIRECTING
Pedro Almodóvar, TALK TO HER

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE

FILM EDITING
THE HOURS
or
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST (Finland)

I agree. At the very least they should consider a new category for this type of character portrayal.

Yea Andy Serkis should be in there.

I doubt TTT will win - there's still ROTK to go and what would they do if TTT wins this year then ROTK just blows everything the FUCK out of the water? My bet - Gangs or Chicago, and ROTK for next year..

man

I didn't think nicholson was that great in about schmidt. I thought he was phoning quite a bit of it in, and then other times he was just hamming it up as jack.

The real star of that film was the set designer.
