System Retirements

Post by Aslanna »

So with each new system I put together I have just been leaving the old one sitting there. So now I'm going through my i930 system that has Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it. Checking System Information I see that the installed RAM is 14GB. I was like.. That seems like a weird number.

Looking at the motherboard I see it has 6 DIMM slots but I only have 5 filled for some reason. 2x4GB and 3x2GB. No idea how that happened. I can only assume they sold x3 kits for DDR3? Funny I was still using this computer 7 years ago as it seems so ancient now.

Mainly I'll just recover all the items like documents and stuff like that then put the computer back in the Antec P93(?) box so it will be bootable again in the future. It's still running a 640MB WD Black as its boot drive. Sadly a matching 640GB WD Black data drive seems to have bit the dust so no telling what I had on there. I really hate when data drives die.

It's running at 108 F so I imagine the thermal paste is probably dried out. I'm not sure when I put this PC together but based on some of the file dates I'd say March 2010 so the paste would be almost 16 years old now. This was also the last PC I had where I used the stock CPU cooler.
