Chinese birth-control policy is very harsh, and their xenophobia is legendary. Unless one can prove birth of an ancestor on mainland China, you cannot assume any rights of a citizen, regardless of how many generations your family may have resided there. The abortion of female babies is a well-known fact. So is the exposure of female children after birth.

To me, the collective personality I see from the Chinese leadership is that of a tempermental teenager.
They get indignant over the oddest things.
Stranger yet, the Chinese students I've shared classes with refuse to go in depth about things there. My every honest inquiry is quickly evaded.
There was only one guy who ever said much to me. He studied like a banshee. He lived and breathed his books. One night I asked him why he didn't kick back a bit and relax. He told me that his family took out a loan with the local mafia in China to finance his education. His job was to quickly get a degree and return to pay off that "loan" or his family would be at risk. Now that's what I call motivation.

In 50 years, there won't be a woman in the entire country, and we'll have 3 billion VERY pissed off Chinese dudes to deal with.

I was talking with some friends (citizens of the Czech Republic, but they have family in the Ukraine and Russia) and they say that it's getting increasingly difficult to tell their Mafia apart from the government. That is a VERY scary thing to me.
