US Government Shutdown
US Government Shutdown
The next important day is October 17th, when we would default on a lot of shit if no deal is reached by then.
We really, really don't want that to happen. It can't happen, right?

Re: US Government Shutdown
It can! And probably will. Grats everyone who voted for Tea Party candidates.

Obama's the worst president ever. Grats Obamacare.
Re: US Government Shutdown
Obamacare has nothing to do with the shutdown. Other than the fact that the Republicans are a bunch of babies and didn't get their way.

Re: US Government Shutdown
It has everything to do with the shutdown.
Re: US Government Shutdown
From the comments:
"They've created a Democrat welfare state with a Republican taxation system and every President keeps passing the buck to the next President.
Repairing this is political death, no matter which way it's done. Higher taxes? You're gone and your party won't be back for years. Cut the welfare state? Same thing.
This is a slow motion train wreck of politicians directly sticking their hands in the people's pockets for more money and more power. Disaster.
And who holds the debt itself? The world's next superpower. They are a state-controlled economy. They can stop paying out anytime they want. Then the real disaster begins."

...AKA shut the fuck up with your short-sighted bullshit, Winnow. Affordable healthcare is something every first-world country manages to do.

Re: US Government Shutdown
Only due to the fact the Republicans don't like it so they are holding the rest of government hostage. The shutdown doesn't affect Obamacare in the least. It's still there and going forward.Winnow wrote:It has everything to do with the shutdown.

Don't vote for them if you don't like them! I'm not voting for a single incumbent next election.
I'm also not voting for Hillary Clinton. If you don't want even more political chaos , it'd be best if she didn't run as there are craploads of skeletons in its closet. It's a miracle the door has been able to be force closed up to this point.

Re: US Government Shutdown
The ACA is just the latest bogeyman the republicans are using to keep the "can't pay attention past a slogan" tea party idiots focused and pissed off. Can't forget DOMA either.
Ending net neutrality, bank re-de-regulartion, and idiotic "job creator/trickle down II" based finance 'reform' are what they're shooting for at the behest of their corporate masters.

This is both the Democrats and Republicans faults, at least the very small, illogical yet somehow most powerful groups. Extremists on both sides are holding this country hostage. Just stupid.

Re: US Government Shutdown
Saying it is both parties are at fault is extremely disingenuous and shifts the blame off the shoulders where it firmly belongs. This is 100% the fault of the Republicans. It's lazy and shows zero critical thinking. If you think there is any wiggle room around that, you are ignorant to the topic at hand. I don't say that flippantly or as some kind of insult either.Tyek wrote:This is both the Democrats and Republicans faults, at least the very small, illogical yet somehow most powerful groups. There is zero historical precedent for this Republican enacted shut down. The last shutdowns in the '90s were not designed and enacted by a single party, unlike the one we are currently experiencing. This is the Republican party holding America hostage, plain and simple. They failed in every conceivable legal and legislative way to stop "Obamacare", so they are backed into a corner and going rogue. Obamacare was the center point of the last US election and then it passed through the Supreme Court. The Republicans lost their battle. Now they are now throwing a temper tantrum and tossing the country under the bus because they failed in their agenda. Their extreme tactics are reprehensible and cannot be given into for the exact same reasons we do not negotiate with terrorists. If the Republicans get anything they want from this, anything, then it opens up this extreme and damaging behavior as a valid political tactic. Right now it's the Republicans, but it could just as well be the Democrats next time.
Our press has utterly failed us by trying to remain politically neutral over this. If the facts are not clearly laid out, then the public does not know the proper "corrections" it needs to make in the next elections to ensure the people responsible for this are held accountable.
Fact: The Republicans are causing this shutdown. They're idea of negotiating is "Delay Obamacare - or else...". it's their way or fuck America.
The shitty part is that they are going to lose this, the latest battle, too. It's in their hands how badly they want to hurt America in the process. If we default on our debt for the first time in history because of their inept plan to hold our country hostage then we may be damaged in a way that will haunt us for a very long time, ironically costing us billions of dollars in rising yields.

Fact: There are 50 states in the United States of America
Opinion: Canadians are highly jealous of American TV because their TV shows suck so bad, yet they are forced to watch 45% Canadian programming by their socialist government.

Re: US Government Shutdown
Fair seemed to cover it pretty accurately.
This the same hostage taking BS the RNC has been engaged in since 2008, only got worse in 2010 when the tea baggers showed up.
Boehner won't let anything reasonable make it too the floor for a vote while his moron constituents cheer him on.

Been Pretty Busy With Work And Coaching So Admittedly Behind On This, But My Opinion Ia Based On The Extremist From Both Parties Leading Us Into A Point Where They No Longer Can Negotiate. Anything Or Look Weak. I Hope You Are Right And This Is AN Isolated Incident, But I Think This Is Where We Are Heading. (Sorry About Post Looking Like ThiS, My Phone Hates MessageBoards)

Re: US Government Shutdown
It's ironic that this group of Republicans cannot repeal the law because it does not have enough votes among lawmakers elected by the very people they serve.
I believe Boehner is in hot water if House members unilaterally use the power of the purse to indirectly delay (via shutdown) or directly stop (via default) mandatory spending (Obamacare) and undermine the authority of the Senate, Supreme Court, and the President in the process. The power of the purse isn't intended to cause economic damage, undermine the full faith and credit of the US, or give House members absolute authority.

Re: US Government Shutdown
Political damage is a non-issue. In the end democrats will still vote democrat and republicans will still vote republican and the tiny minority of swing voters that decide 100% of your elections will still get manipulated by special interests to the point that they will just vote for the dudes that influence them the most. Congress knows that no matter what they do, how badly they do it and how incredibly they fuck up their constituents, they will get away with it because the system they have implemented over the last 100 years is totally foolproof.
