Requests for stickies go unnoticed, the board crashes so much that I make a point to copy and save every single post I make before hitting submit, and it is seriously the slowest msg board I visit by a country mile. We still have The Machine as a moderator for christ's sake and he hasn't posted in half a decade. It seems like VV is on it's last legs. However, it's free and I'm not (really) complaining.

VV times out a bunch lately. You never know what Py's got going on with other projects in the background!

It could be some sort of out of backup task or something that continuously backs up the database causing slowdowns or something like that. Who knows. Seems to be same time every day when it happens. I'm just wondering if massive backup tasks are being performed daily or something. Need update! Might just be crappy host performance.

There's some cool BBS software platforms out there but I don't think there's much desire to go beyond basic posting. It takes forever to post a new message which makes me think something's going on with the database, be it corrupted, hacked, or other.

I'm here every day but only read a couple forums really. I do answer pm's if stuff comes up. TheMachine is there for posterity reasons (remember the roots yo!).

As far as dying - we're a specific board for a specific server for a specific game - the server isn't around and only Aslanna plays EQ1!

Basically we cover the life support, but we don't do anything with the site at all really. If someone has a comparably priced web host I have no problem moving on. If someone wants to do some development for the board (updating phpbb, adding features to the site, etc) - feel free to contact me/sylvus/moocow

We haven't taken donations in years, certainly not since long before the dreamhost switch. As pointed out, you get what you pay for, but if those of you who are savvy would like to chip in, there would be little kicking or screaming involved in bringing us in to this decade. On the flip side of that, I get what I pay for with a 10$ hosting account and don't hold out much hope for much better service at a similar price .

I'll look around in the next week or so to see if there's anything worth switching to and if there's a relatively easy way to convert a phpBB database to it. I'd be willing to buy the software if it's commercial. It would be kinda cool to have some sort of change or upgrade to the forum that injected some fresh life but it's not the end of the world if nothing changes.

VV dwells in the stone age for posting options. Almost ten years ago when VV came into existence that was a good thing. It'd be nice for some extra formatting/features!

btw, people could always recommend VV to others so we can get some new faces around here. noel isn't here to grill them with "WHAT IS YOUR INGAME NAME?!" so I don't think it will be as intimidating as it once was.

New faces and opinions would surely be nice. At the same time, VV is a rare nook of internet literacy and keeping it that way could be a delicate balancing act.
