I had a hell of a time installing older OS X versions into VMWare and even when successful, they were slow as hell.
OS X Lion (releasing July 14th) changes that so you can easily install it on a pc using VMWare., etc if you want.
There's a torrent of a pre installed VMWare Image for OSX Lion - version 10.7 build 11a459e here:

look for:

Mac OS X Lion 10.7 VMware Pre-Installed Image Mac OS X Lion 10.7 VMware Pre-Installed Image.zip 4 GB
My PC is using one of the original i7 quad core CPUs along with nVidia 285 and runs this well using 4GB virtual ram (my system has 6GB). Audio and video are working and enough to watch youtube vids, etc. Anything less than my specs might struggle and if you have a more powerful card than mine then you're in very good shape.
The biggest thing about all of this is that you can finally actually try out OSX on your PC and use some of the (very few) apps that Mac has you may have wanted to use but didn't want to sell the farm to buy a Mac for. It has the Mac App store, etc and it already prompted me to download the iTunes 10.3 which has the iCloud integration.
I'll probably upgrade my iMac to Lion. I like how the OS is more like iOS now. I don't use a trackpad so can't take advantage of all the new touch controls built in. Windows 7 > OS X for PCs but this would be sweet for your grandmother or for some portable laptops, etc. With the Mac App store, the ease of use factor is definitely there for those that aren't old school or want to take the time to customize etc.
You know...Apple finally corrected some things that I've bitched about forever like allowing you to resize a window from any edge..not just the bottom right corner...magical! Amazing! This caught OS X up on like 20 years of progress from other OS's....still have to access menu items from the upper right corner though.
edit:
graphic drivers, VMware tools and also sound drivers are all pre installed in this image.
