Confessions (Kokuhaku)

Post by Hesten »

I just got around to watch Confessions (Kokuhaku), a brilliant japanese movie that was on the short list to get nominated for an Oscar this year for the best foreign movie, but it sadly didn't make it to the final list.

The movie is about a schoolteacher whos daughter dies in what the police calls an accident, but she finds out that her daughter was killed by two students from her class. Due to their age, the law can't do anything to them, so she decided to carry out her own plans to get revenge.
The movie is seriously evil, and i rate it second on the revenge movies list, only beaten by Oldboy. Go get this, right now, you won't regret it :)

And here is the trailer:

Thanks for the recommendation. I had an Asian film (non fighting...note: Kwon, don't post images of blood spurting fight scenes) thread going but people didn't seem to take interest.

Memories of Matsuko (2006) Japanese http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5YiO1kSZdQ

This one's pretty odd with musical fantasies thrown into a pretty depressing story.

Summer Palace 2006 (Chinese)

This is long, epic, slow moving movie about ...well, heartbreak as usual! Good luck finding it.

Nobody to Watch Over Me (Japanese) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g5ZMZVvIoA

About a Cop that is assigned to protect the sister of a murderer. In Japan, the shame is brought down on the entire family so no one cares much about the girl and some look to take revenge on her. Some interesting twists in the story.

And of course, one of my favorites:

Heavenly Forest (Japanese)

Yet another depressing love story! If your eyes don't water up at end of movie you suck and are cold and heartless!
