Facebook question

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I don't use FB that much but when I do I don't want to see a post about what one of my friends posted on some strangers board.

Is there a setting that will kill that? Example: My wife posts on one of her friends wall and I am able to see it. I am not friends with her friend so why should I care?

Another annoying thing is that I am sitting here and a post will come up that my wife did 15 hours ago. WTF is that about?

Uncheck the "Spouse Stalker" option. It's on by default.

I gate to go with two worthless replies in one day but Facebook sucks! Read up on all the security failings and privacy concerns before you jump on that ship. Don't get me wrong, even without the security/privacy issues, Facebook sucks, but those factors pile on extra suckage.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of this shit by any stretch of the imagination. The main reason I am in it at all is for the ability to communicate with people I wouldn't normally be able to. I have this mostly locked down though the controls are very confusing.

My wife was becoming friends with all my relatives and felt compelled to join because of that. She wasn't overly happy that some old girlfriends found me though.

I agree. I really hate how the options settings work. I can see them but not sure how to change a particular one. I'm still not sure how to make myself 'offline' or whatever so people can't start chats and stuff. I only visit FriendFace like once every other week but when I do I don't want people (most not all) to know I am there other than if I leave a comment or something.

If people don't/won't/can't communicate with me outside of Facebook then I probably wouldn't want to talk to them anyway.

I'm lucky enough to have a generic name... it's nearly impossible for anyone to track me down on the internet.

From Gizmodo:

http://gizmodo.com/5599970/major-corpor ... bittorrent
Remember that torrent yesterday that contained the personal information off of 100 million scraped Facebook profiles? I thought it was strange that the guy didn't sell this information, since many companies would be interested. Turns out they are interested.

Reader Clint discovered that all you had to do is use something like Peer Block, which grabs the IPs of the other users also downloading the torrent and identifies which company or university or organization they belong to. You can check this yourself by hopping on the torrent and doing the same thing.

Here are the major companies that are downloading the torrent. A couple caveats to these. Just because a company is on the list, doesn't mean that it's a sanctioned download by the company itself to grab the user information for some purpose. It could easily just be some dude at the company who wanted to download the torrent himself to check it out. Also, the IP addresses assigned to a company might fluctuate (they usually don't, much, unless major companies change their connection to the internet, so it should be mostly accurate).
